I Said, Hey... What's Going On?

We know. It's hard. But we don't want to moderate your political discussion.

Going against these wishes will result in a suspension.

I really don't know what's going on in Tennessee. I got an email that said we're being given cards to carry to and from work that deem us as essential personnel, even though my job is shut down until April 6th (I work in a storeroom inside of an automotive plant). It's funny that the actual employees of said plant aren't essential and get to stay at home for 2 weeks paid, but my job, which is basically a contractor, is essential and we get to be there and do.... absolutely nothing for three days (I work weekends).

As far as I know, Gov. Lee won't announce a shelter-in-place order, instead leaving it up to individual cities to do. And my city hasn't done that, or anything like it, so I don't understand the need for these cards at all - at the current moment, it seems like a waste of time, unless they know something we don't and are preparing for a future announcement from the mayor or something.

But my hometown, which is like 45 minutes away, DID put into effect a shelter-in-place order and also did a 9pm curfew.

The guy that's been driving all the local decisions is recommending no school for the rest of the year here.  We'll see what happens.  City/county went into lockdown today.

Will be interesting to see what happens.  Just about all the major cities in Texas are in the same boat.  Normally our state government is in love with two things

1.)  Telling everybody about the benefits of local control

2.)  Overriding local control for the cities at every opportunity, especially when it comes to Austin

Normally giving the state government the opportunity to so something like override a shelter in place order for Austin is the equivalent of extra strength viagra for those guys.  So far, our governor at least seems to be taking a fairly sane approach, saying he supports the cities that have gone into lockdown.  Not sure if that will last, but it's a nice change, dipshits like Patrick aside.

Texas politics is fascinating and frustrating.

Not that Canada is crushing it, but living next to you guys is scary as fuck at times like these. Not looking forward to sharing a border with a failed state when this is all said and done.

Enjoy your standing room only Easter services.

Roland, I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law. I'm here for you on the other side of the planet.

This might help answer some of your questions. I'd say when in doubt, ask a funeral director.

Oh nice work, thanks man - I appreciate it.

Over here we have a national committee overseeing it - basically the Premiers of every state and territory and the Prime Minister.

Premiers (despite largely right wing affiliation) are unaninmous in shouting down the Prime Minister at every turn, mostly as he's an incompetent pentecostal fuck. We're getting nightly press conferences that are literally worse than Trump from the PM that are just confusing (x amount of people at a funeral, y at a wedding, x-y at a group fitness class etc), and the population just waiting for their state's Premier to make a less confusing statement in the morning instead.

I'd argue Tasmania and the Northern Territory are the safest populated places on Earth right now.

My father-in-law just died from this. There's restrictions in Australia currently to a maximum of 10 people in attendance at the funeral. We have no idea who to ask to confirm whether this includes the minister/funeral staff/the body before making arrangements.

Condolences to you and yours.

I shared a couch with our oldest cat, my 5 year old son and his favorite stuffed rabbit for Mass on Sunday.  My wife took the other couch.  Our English Setter hung out with whoever would pet him.  The mastiff slept through the whole thing, and the rest of the cats didn't even bother to show up.  We streamed an online Mass.  Priest was good, better than our parish priest.  I got a kick out of him suddenly realizing he had a congregation of 0 during the Responsorial Psalm.  Very low key, which is how I like it.  That's the way it's gonna be for awhile, regardless of what any of these fools tells me.

Events go the way most of the experts seem to think, our president is gonna get kicked in the teeth by reality before Easter.

Thanks Jae (and Eddie/JT above).

Personally. just the same - he won't be missed. Racist MF'er.

Yeah, you can't pick your family unfortunately and our thoughts are with you and your family, not your dad.

Ft. Lee reported its first case of COVID-19 yesterday so my telework has been extended an extra week.  So far, my immediate family is plague free.  My ex-girlfriend and I have been talking a lot lately.  We're still done with relationship, but we're going to try to be better friends.  I can live with that as long as she keeps her drama to herself.

So.  Prince fucking Charles is the latest big time famous person to test positive.

That $2T stimulus bill is now being held up by Ben Sasse because minimum wage workers would possibly make more from these $1200 monthly checks than they usually would, and it would promote unemployment and government welfare.

I had a problem with this bill from the start, since it really benefits corporations more than your average working American, and that's a failure on both sides of the aisle - not just one.

This stuff is is stressful and hard to cope with. My car needed an oil change. Being that I have a 10-month-old, we thought it the right move for me to get it fixed just in case. I wiped the car interior clean. But dropping it off I had a panic attack almost because this could literally be something that gets me or other people incredibly sick. There are also all of these other little triggers. I can see one of the big highways in town from the back window and it is completely empty. It just makes me so anxious and scared and upset. I also had a friend of a friend who passed away from the virus. No one I knew but that was the first person somewhat in my orbit to have been stricken with this to that extent. I have seen a few “oh I think I might have it but I can’t get a test” things on my FB feed but nothing like that.

On the dark comedy side, I did get an email from some company today hawking some nonsense for half price “due to these troubled times” and not kidding the checkout code was COVID19.

Someone I don't know on Facebook thought it would be fun to share my profile picture/post I made the fucking day after my Mum passed away. Of all the things to do. Found that out today. Off the scale livid and upset what this fucker has done.

We've been gathering at 10am on Sundays around the dining room table.  Last week, it was a pastor in Georgia. Four days ago, it was the pastor we used to have here in Spokane.  We've REALLY missed having him as our pastor so it was a huge treat to listen to him preaching again.

1. Ignore it, the world is full of assholes and you don't need to respond.

2. Send a carefully-worded complaint to Facebook and they will likely turf the motherfucker.

3. Let us all know his name and account and I guarantee you he will pray for death before I get done with him and I'm a NICE guy compared to some of the people I would give his info to.

It's looking increasingly likely that everything will be reopened sooner than later and it's not because we have Covid-19 under control. Politicians are ready to trade lives for the stock market.

My company has gone full WFH, strictly enforced, except for two people who absolutely must be in the office.  I've been WFH since last Monday.  I've already told my boss that I'm staying at home until things actually do get better even if the Fat Orange Cretin in charge declares America "open for business" in two weeks.
