Too bad about the rest of the show, but luckily for WWE, AEW thinks a Jack Swagger debut is a "first live weekly show closing" worthy moment, so they didn't fall too far behind in the booking race this week. Judging by live reactions, you can’t compare the two.

Brian Fowler
Remember about 22 years ago (#ChristI'mOld) when they used red lighting for all of Kane's matches for about two months before apparently realizing how bad it looked? Neither do they, I guess. 4 1
Eivion
1 hour ago, Craig H said: How could anyone see that as a finish by ref stoppage?! Seth is warned multiple times to NOT use the sledgehammer. Seth proceeds to use the sledgehammer and the ref immediately calls for the bell. That's a DQ finish damn near EVERY time. It's just like in other matches where the ref repeatedly warns someone to not use a chair, then they do so anyway, and the ref immediately calls for the bell. That's a DQ finish. This reeks of them trying to save any kind of face by calling it a finish by ref stoppage. Technically it is a ref stoppage because the ref stopped the match just like they would in other DQ finishes. WWE has done ref stoppages before and the ref checks on the person to see if they're out and then they call for the finish and announce a winner. Trying to say this was a ref stoppage after the fact just shows how much more of a clusterfuck it was and how poorly thought out it was. The ref asked Seth not to do it because it wasn't who he was. He didn't warn that it would qualify as a dq. I mean no matter what it was a shitty and just generally piss poorly executed finish.

It’s cool. I thought Cross turned her head away from the ref and Asuka pulled Cross' hair over here face, so I think it was done in the best way possible. I really thought the Tornado Tag was the best match on the show. I wasn't too high on Becky vs Sasha (and I'm a huge Becky Fan), but it was pretty much what people praise in modern wrestling so I can see what people liked about it. Edit: The main Event is amazing. It killed multiple finishes, two characters, a few thousand eyesights and an entire crowd. Edited October 7, 2019 by ReiseReise
Craig H
That's lame as fuck and overly theatrical. If you're in the crowd, all you see is the ref arguing with Seth. Hell, even watching it at home, he looks like he's warning Seth.

For Great Justice
Ok, Corey. WWE is approaching DC Comics levels of resetting their universe at this point. Shit they’ve probably already passed that. Bisch should rename his podcast to 52 Weeks. Edited October 7, 2019 by For Great Justice 3

FluffSnackwell
Stomping Alexa twice would only get Becky to the Royal Rumble before needing another challenger. Hopefully Becky has plenty of material about scraping leprechaun guts off her boots ready, instead of having to resort to head injury-based humor. FluffSnackwell
Surely Corey Graves isn't referring to the Fiend and Seth Rollins being separated by The Draft, because that means The Fiend is the lame ass kind of monster that is respectful of mandates telling him which brand he's exiled to. Also they'll have to make Seth Rollins exclusive to one brand even though he's Universal Champion. Rehabilitated Rick
Sasha losing was the right result. Becky should not be beaten decisively yet. Not when the Ronda match is on the table. As for Becky's next potential opponents, Ruby Riott is a good suggestion. Hell give Liv Morgan a shot. I wouldn't be mad at extending the Sasha feud through Survivor Series. Plenty of options. Raziel
Sasha losing again might cause her fans to march on Stamford, or just bitch about it on Twitter and still watch the show. One of those two. Still, Becky doesn't really have anywhere to go. 1
steve
I still think she might lose it the night of the draft or something, I'd be surprised if she ended up staying on RAW.
TheVileOne
A Ronda vs. Becky one-on-one match makes sense, but Ronda is a big question mark right now and we have no idea when she's coming back. Also no reason Sasha couldn't win the belt now and have her lose it back at some point to resume a Becky/Ronda feud. It's not like Becky is undefeated. She got submitted by Asuka clean the night of Royal Rumble 2019. Just to continue shoveling the dirt, if Hell in a Cell wasn't dead as a match and event, it was already. Enough's enough. I used to think Hell in a Cell was cool as a match/visual concept. A roofed cage that took up even more than the ring and was big enough to do moves on the floor and fit a camera man in. Cool. It sort of added another layer of potential brutality because the roof meant getting on top of the roof and some chaos could happen. Now it's just another tired, overused WWE gimmick. Niners Fan in CT
These idiots have damn near ruined the Royal Rumble concept as well. Something so simple and effective and even that's not special anymore. Don't underestimate anything they do! You don't think it can get worse? BobbyWhioux
4 hours ago, TheVileOne said: IMHO a referee stoppage is a TKO and a decisive finish. That's not what happened here. And also, it's a Hell in a Cell match. When has a HIAC ever been stopped for use of a weapon like that? And also the referee having a moral argument with Seth Rollins like he's a fucking superhero talking down Punisher or Wolverine from killing someone. Exactly. Bret vs. Austin at WM13 was a ref stoppage (and one that actually protected and even helped the loser, but that's another story) all the physical/non-verbal cues they gave the audience lined up with what wrestling has spent decades and generations telling its audience is a DQ finish. As for the verbal cues, well, that's the problem, there wasn't one. You've got ring announcers for this sort of thing. Use them. Debating whether it was a ref stoppage or a DQ is almost beside the point. Or perhaps it is the point. There was no official announcement. They did not deign to tell their paying audience what the finish was. Nor, it seems, did they deign to inform their promotional partners since FOX had to make an ultimately incorrect guess in that since-deleted tweet. If you want a mystery or to keep the live audience in suspense about the decision, sure you can have a delay. Or have a huddle of referees have a spirited discussion with wild gesticulation like they're having a serious argument. But you pay it off for the paying audience. What do they always do after a baseball or football game or whatever? The Public Address Announcers announces the final score, no matter how apparent it is. It's part of the presentation. Kayfabe may have gone out the window long ago but wrestling still presents as a sports-like product (hence the "sports" in sports entertainment) Hell, even the "we create moments, pal!" should remember how many of those moments involved the official announcement. Howard Finkle's "...and NEW champion!" is as memorable as the matches themselves. If you're that worried the audience is going to react badly to the official announcement of your fuck finish, maybe that's an indication you should rethink your fuck finish. The crowd was already shitting on the finish. Saying "the ref has stopped this match and awarded it to Seth Rollins" wouldn't have made it worse, and wussing out and saying nothing sure as hell didn't mitigate anything. 3
