The "Add a Brazzers logo to a wrestling photo" board meme has been a thing for years now, but nobody actually subscribes to them? Or are we not counting that as a streaming service?

A streaming service I'll use for maybe 5 minutes a day?

Bad value.  No thanks.

Brazzers and some other companies are owned by a company that own PornHub. Nobody needs to subscribe to these individual companies when they own arguably the internet's most well known and popular free porn site.

Is that what Brazzers is? I've never understood that meme.

It would appear that BET has entered the streaming service market, with BET+. $9.99 a month, featuring "content from mainly black creators", the Tyler Perry filmography, exclusive series like First Wives Club, stand-up specials from DL Hughley/Sinbad/Nick Cannon and others, and will have shows from other Viacom networks like MTV, Comedy Central, and VH1. The commercial I just saw had a clip from something Eddie Murphy related that I couldn't immediately recognize, and the TV show Martin.

It's available right now and they already have Android and Apple apps, plus Android TV (and I assume Apple TV?) - it also supports Amazon Fire TV, but no Roku yet.

I wonder if all of the Viacom channels will get their own streaming services pretty soon. I know a few rednecks that would probably sign up for the CMT service day one. ?

I think BET+ is also doing original films (the first one is Sacrifice starring Paula Patton and that's coming out in 2020) to capitalize on the recent success of some of their made-for-TV films and miniseries. It's a little bizarre though because they're basically making BET itself obsolete and making their streaming service OWN and Aspire with a bigger budget. The reason I say that is if you throw the good stuff on BET+ along with the reality shows and the stuff they've been syndicating for years like Martin, people will just subscribe to that instead of being forced to watch ripoffs of other shows with a bunch of non-actors and pseudo celebs doing bad acting.

So. Now Amazon Prime doesn't work on our Wii U anymore.

Ok, ok, fine. We'll drop the $300 or whatever and get a new TV that has USB jacks or whatever so we can watch Hulu, Amazon Prime and Disney+. We just have to find something with the same kind of base as what we have.

I'm sticking this here because it involves a streaming service. Is anybody else having trouble watching the second episode of Creepshow on Shudder? The damn thing will play all the way through on my laptop, but taking about twice the time because it stops to buffer the entire time, like I'm working with AOL or something. Shudder itself is fine but that single episode is giving me shit. That ever happen to any of the rest of you on other platforms?

Hell, you don't even need to spend $500 on a new TV with Roku on it. Depending on the size of screen you want, Best Buy has a 50" TCL for $280, a 40" Sharp for $170, 50" Sharp for $250, 43" TCL for $230, etc. All of those and more are Roku TVs.

FWIW, I have a 50" TCL Roku TV. I think it was like $300 or so. I got it last year from Best Buy when they were counter-programming Prime Day. I've only had four issues with it:

  • The backlighting needs to always be set to high because otherwise you'll see these really faint, horizontal, gray bars that will scroll up the screen. The backlighting isn't that much of an issue though and everything else has looked good.
  • The remote sucks. So, for any other Roku stick or box the remote is connected to the device via WiFi. That means you don't have to point the remote at the tv and can point it anywhere or have it under a blanket or whatever. The Roku remote for my Roku TV works via IR like other remotes and you have to point the damn thing just a little bit high and at the tv so it works.
  • Don't expect whatever Roku hardware is in the TV to process 4K images well even if it's a 4K tv. I tried a standalone 4K Roku box I had connected to another tv and that worked much better.
  • While watching an episode of Mindhunter, there was one scene where the colors went crazy. Really crazy. You could basically see the LEDs through the glass because their blues were turned all the way up. It was only something with that one episode though, and it hasn't happened with anything else we've watched or game we've played on the TV.'

Other than that, I'm quite happy with the purchase despite those flaws.
