The Worst Star Trek Episode Of All Time(Not Including Discovery)

  1. 1. What is the worst episode in the history of the main Star Trek series?

    • Star Trek, And The Children Shall Lead (Weird children, strange pedophile ghost alien.)
    • Star Trek, The Way To Eden (Space Hippies)
    • Star Trek The Next Generation, Code Of Honor(Fear Of A Planet Of Black People Who Are Aliens~!)
    • Star Trek The Next Generation, Shades Of Gray (The easy choice, but it is a clip show, so I wouldn't vote for it.)
    • Star Trek The Next Generation, Sub Rosa (Crusher has an affair with a ghost alien.)
    • Star Trek DS9, Let He Who Is Without Sin... (Risa weather disturbance episode, generally considered the worst.)
      0
    • Star Trek Voyager, Threshold (Warp Ten Barrier/Weird Evolved Creatures episode)
    • Star Trek Voyager, The Fight (Chakotay boxes an alien presence for reasons.)
    • Star Trek Enterprise, These Are The Voyages... (The horrible series finale that was all a TNG holodeck program.)
    • Choose your own! There's many more to choose from if you're inclined. Name it.

The Worst Star Trek Episode Of All Time(Not Including Discovery) Poll.

I always wanted to do a poll like this to see what the general consensus was, it would have probably been better in the heavier trafficked days of the board, but who gives a damn. I didn't go with Discovery because it is too new and I have not watched it yet. I wouldn't personally vote for the clip show episode because that's just a forced gimmick from a writer's strike and budgetary concerns to fill an episode count. I think the easy answer is Code Of Honor which has aged even worse than it aged in the previous decades. It will get to a point where it might as well be shown as an example of when Roddenberry lost his mind.

I voted for Code of Honor because of the racism, but if we're keeping it a buck a lot of season 1-2 of TNG are pretty hard to go back to now.

I would also submit for consideration every episode of DS9 where the crew becomes inexplicably obsessed with a lounge singer on the holosuites.

The baseball episode of DS9 is also extremely bad, but is saved by the casting of Keone Young as the greatest baseball player in history.

I just went with the lowest rated ones by IMDB and what I know of in general. I'm sure other sources have different opinions, but these are generally accepted as the worst from what I've seen. This is why I added the add your own episode choice.

Personally, I can tolerate Vic Fontaine when it actually moves forward plots and isn't a self-contained story of some sort like Nog recovering from his leg replacement or having to save the casino. Although, both have their weird charms and I like the growth of Nog in general.

I loved the baseball episode because I love baseball and it just makes me smile.

FWIW: Spock's Brain rates as third worst by IMDB dorks. I have never seen TOS because of it's prevalence for horrible episodes, but that's just a personal choice. I've seen all the films.

Somehow season 4 of ENT averages out the best of all the series on IMDB. I blame this on vote total and recency bias.

@Zimbra is the sole person, obviously.

It's true: I am both extremely correct and extremely brave.

I think the Vic Fontaine and baseball episodes share  a lot of the same flaws, mostly that they don't fit tonally with the rest of the season.  Which I could forgive if the writing was better, but it doesn't work for me.

I also don't like any of the DS9 mirror universe episodes so I might just be a grump.

The later mirror universe episodes were pretty bad, that's true. I also hated the Ferengi episodes from the last couple of seasons. Ferengi as a race are pretty problematic anyway, because there is a very thin line between "parody of capitalism" and "anti-semite imagery" when having multiple characters on. As long there is only Quark it's fine, because Quark is a deeper character, but if you add more 1-dimensional Ferengi, you drift very quick across that line.

Regarding season 4 of Enterprise: as far as I can remember, they did a lot of fan service there (like an arc starring Brent Spiner as Noonien Soong's ancester), which I am sure helps the IMDB numbers.

The funny thing about Code of Honor is that the script apparently had none of the racism originally. It was basically the choice s of the director and or set designers.

I like it’s campiness, but many people would say Catspaw from TOS.

I dunno, it's hard to top making the finale of Enterprise a Riker Holodeck simulation because Riker needs a soloution to a C-plot on a throwaway Season 6 TNG Episode.  It might've been the height of Frakes self-indulgence as a director (I think Insurrection came out not too far off, with the ridiculous Riker flying the Enterprise-E with a joystick in the center of the bridge, and again, Frakes was directing).

This is exactly right. I got to Enterprise late and never really understood the negativity surrounding it. It wasn't the greatest show ever or anything but it was mostly enjoyable enough. Then I got to the finale and it was like Frakes was saying to me "Hey, fuck you for your time.".

Was it his creative choice though? Wouldn't we blame the writing staff for that? Or did he shoehorn himself in because he was director?

"Do you want to know the truth about that whole Enterprise thing as the show was called? Rick Berman, executive producer of all things Star Trek, called Marina and myself and said 'we'd like you to do the last episode of Enterprise' ... They said it would be a Valentine to the fans, but all of it ended up doing I think was hurting Scott Bakula's feelings. He was such a gentleman about it and I said to Scott this is weird for me to be on your show and your show is being taken off before it should be taken off and he was such a gentleman about it and said "no, glad you're here" so it was awkward on all accounts, except with working with Marina again which is always lovely. But I wasn't crazy about it. And it was so thinly connected, I thought too. Thanks for bringing up such an unpleasant memory" - Frakes at some Con in 2012.

Edit: Berman and Braga wrote it, so um, blame them for anything that happened. Also, Frakes didn't direct it. In fact, he didn't direct any episodes of it.

Ok so Braga and Berman told me fuck me very much for my time. It's still a horrible end to a series.

Exactly, let us not besmirch the honorableish name of William Riker.

It's funny to me that Crusher/Ghost Alien is winning because ever since it aired, my own go-to sexual fantasy is being a ghost alien who gets to just hang around in a cabin accomplishing nothing, but somehow having affairs with hot Irish Scottish/Irish Doctor ladies and/or Sheila E.

I've never shared this with anyone, except Sheila E. and there are very strong legal reasons that I'm not allowed to contact her about it anymore so it helps to be able to talk about it.

Gates had you on speed dial back in the day. The AV Club review of that episode had hilarious comments. Apparently they were from the actual people bashing just how godawful it was. Now, who knows for sure, but the comments are still there.

Warning: It has been Kinja'd.

Now we know why she don't need a man's touch.

I always pictured @OSJ as a space hippie even after seeing photos of him.

Voice of Duke Phillips, Charles Napier A/K/A alternate universe OSJ. He had a second appearance on DS9 in the Roswell episode. I like to think the characters are the same.

I have a friend who shall remain anonymous(unless you want one of his books for free; then, I'll gladly direct you to it) who thinks the Tribbles ep of DS9 is the worst one in the series. Yeah. At least he think Far Beyond The Stars is the best, so it's one of the top ten.
