Great Movies You Will Never Watch Again

I assume that the intention behind "Great Movies You Will Never Watch Again" is that the movies are great (and therefore you wouldn't discuss bad movies here) and that you'll never watch them again because they actually affected you the way they intended.

Anyway, one great movie I'll probably never watch again is UMBERTO D.--that is, at least as long as I'm married, because my wife is a dog lover who could never have that ending stretch played again in her presence.

I'll never watch SOLARIS again, because it's the longest film ever made. I'd say it's about 30 hours longer than THE HUMAN CONDITION.

I feel like I want to lock myself in my apartment for 24 hours and marathon all of these films with crazy dark reputations that I have never seen, like Fireflies and Requiem for a Dream, just to see if I come out the other side with my sanity intact. Because that's the way I roll.

You couldn't pay me money to watch Grave of the Fireflies.

I have no doubt it's a great film.

Seconded. Also put me down as someone who has no desire to see A Serbian Film. Look, I can do Ilsa parties, I've sat through Men Behind the Sun (likely won't again, but just sayin'), I've even owned a copy of the ultra-rare Last Orgy of the Third Reich; but even I have my limits.

Okay, start with the classic four Dyanne Thorne films to get warmed up, then take on the Men Behind the Sun, cut to Grave of the Fireflies just to class things up a little and then drop back to Last Orgy of the Third Reich and finish off your pleasant viewing with A Serbian Film. It has been really nice knowing you.

I figure a man of such class and distinction as yourself has a money bag I can drop it in.

Oh come on. I've seen the Ilsa films. You can do better.

Yeah, that was probably kind of weak. There are dozens of just awful Nazi-porn exploitation flicks, but I'm not sure how available most of them are. Back in the day we used to get really horrible shit from Vertigo Video in Seattle. The owner was down for ordering just about anything that was likely offensive and obnoxious.  The really good shit he kept at home and would only rent out to the cognoscenti like myself. ?

Oh, hells bells! How could I forget Nekromantik and its sequel? I don't know that "great" is a word that I would use, but definitely some disturbing shit.

Requiem doesn't bother me like it does apparently everybody else. It's so overwrought that it comes off as almost humorous.

Yeah, that movie didn't bother me. Tries too hard, comes up a little short.

Yeah those Nekromantik films aren't making the watch-list.

True story: My buddy Larry and I used to host "Sick Movie Night" at my place with the idea being how we could gross out a bunch of our friends and make them leave early which we found hilarious. If the films didn't do the trick the Mentors tapes certainly would. (Yes, I am an evil bastard). When it came to the Nekromantik films even Larry and I had to turn that shit off, just ridiculous and disgusting and not in a good way. We lasted about twenty minutes longer than my other guests, but that's twenty minutes of my life that I wish I could have back to do something else, anything else.

Revolutionary Road

Life Is Beautiful

The Road

The Wolf Of Wall Street

The first three due to their soul-crushing, and the fourth due to how enraging it all is (especially in the current culture).

Johnny Got His Gun. Never seen it but the video for "One" is enough.

Might just be the greatest anti-war book/film ever. Dalton Trumbo was a genius, doesn't mean it's a comfortable read or viewing, but it IS great. Thing is, you will be profoundly affected by it and that's the cost of doing business as they say.

Yeah, I read Johnny in I think junior high or early high school for a book report. I was one of those, errr, you might call "advanced" readers. After that and the video, no need to watch the movie!

I own Selby's Requiem too but never got through it
