MLW Deserves Its Own Thread

Recommended Posts

Holy shit, the feels.   If you ever told me as a teenager that I'd weep about anything related to Gary Hart, I'd have thought you were insane.  The men that man managed were the stuff of many Saturday afternoon crying fits.

Sorrow and despair caused by the beatdown of babyfaces that could only be overcome by gallons of Butter Pecan ice cream.

Alas, wisdom brings enlightenment and I did not begin to appreciate Hart's role in pro wrasslin until long after he passed away.

Rest in power, Devious One.

Lovely tribute. It's great that Court continues to fly the flag for Gary Hart. I wonder what it would've been like if he did end up coming in to manage Umaga

Everyone always says Heenan when the topic of 'who would you be managed by?' comes up but the correct answer is Gary Hart (... or Sensational Sherri)

If it was a shoot, ellering is prob the best answer, financially speaking.

MLW announced they are returning to Orlando in November. They also announced they have signed Dominic Garrini. Fantastic new all around. Garrini is great even though he's somewhat inexperienced.

War Games was a great card.   I loved the squash match curtain jerker with Bobby Jaggers 2.0 beating the living shit out of Lee Scott 2.0.

Main event went down the way it should have when the Von Erichs are wrestling in Dallas.  Send 'em home happy or prepare for the tire fires that would be set in the parking lot.

I'm guessing that Tom Lawlor is going to get his belt back at some point before the next PPV because LA PARK challenging Jacob Fatu for the MLW Title would be too much like right.

Dynasty defends the tag belts against Hart / Smith in a 2/3 Falls Match this week.  I have to think that the belts will end up around the waists of the Von Erichs at some point but even then, it would feel that the VE's would be slumming if they faced Dynasty or New Hart Foundation for the straps.

The tag belts could use a bit of elevation so I hope this big stip match gets it done...... so why do I feel that Teddy will fuck this up somehow?

That Samael promo was delightful.  I so far saw that and the opener and I like how creative Zenshi is.  His matches can still be sloppy at times but I'm interested to see how he progresses in his career.

Further thoughts:

  • The action in the ring for the Zenshi vs. Jordan Oliver match was pretty good, but that overbooked finish blew goats.  That much chicanery should've resulted in some sort of DQ.  Despite that horrible ending, I am digging Myron Reed's homage to both D-Lo and Iron Mike Sharpe by using the chest protector that allegedly guards his ribs from further injury as a gimmick weapon.  Clearly the #injustice vs. Zenshi / Gringo Loco / Air Wolf feud is the go to curtain jerker hotness right now, so why not free up (or create) MLW Trios belts for these guys to rumble over and give the crowd the illusion that this feud matters?
  • The #injustice vs. MLW LifeBlood feud has helped me realize that the titles aren't very well distributed over the roster in this fed and I suppose we have the Dynasty / Hart Foundation feud to thank / blame for that and Court's very Southern Booking compartmentalization of the feuds does not help  You'd think that members of CONTA, #injustice, or Zenshi / Gringo Loco / Airwolf would come looking to challenge the Dynasty for the Tag-Team gold, but they haven't. Why?  Isn't the whole point to win matches and become a champion?  If you're not out for gold, why bother?
  • Boy, Mance Warner and Teddy Hart promos are not for kids, are they?
  • THEY HAVE BOOKED LA PARK VS. JACOB FATU FOR THE PPV~!  MY HEART~!  WHERE ARE MY PILLS~?!

More to follow as shitty Army post bandwidth allows.

  • Okay, spoke too soon.  VE's cut a promo discussing the main event and want the winners of the 2/3 falls match between the Harts and Dynasty.  This might go down at Superfight in Chi-raq.
  • Jimmy Havoc is trying to convince me that he is more violent than Mance Warner.  Not working.  Either this is a tease for next week's card or we have our third potential match for Superfight.
  • MJF and Holliday are wrestling under protest because the injunction they filed to avoid the title match was turned down.  I love shit like that because it is so fucking carny.
  • The "Austin Aries is going apeshit in the locker room" commentary from Schiavone kinda ruined the match for me.  The Dynasty victory via AA run-in has been mailed in.
  • I normally hate Teddy Hart, but I give him major props for taking that AA Brainbuster spot and (gasp) selling it!.  HOLY SHIT~!  I guess we have our fourth potential match for Superfight and that being AA vs. Teddy Hart for the rarely defended MLW Middleweight Title.

MLW Fusion episode 76 was good. Well it had a great match in the tag title 2 outta 3 falls. The Jordan Oliver vs Zenshi match was kinda crap. Plus Jordan looks just like my cousin's 15 year old kid. So everytime I see him I think "Were you just asking for a bunch of Bakugan shit for Xmas a few years ago."

This Gringo Loco shit has been going on for what feels like three years now and I'm so over it. Also, Myron Reed and Jordan Oliver's pants annoy me. Watching them is like a portal back to 2002 CZW or something.

I know what you mean I keep waiting for Reed/Koto/Oliver to hit the T Gimmick or set up a 4 chair table.

Just random dumb thoughts:

  • I absolutely agree with your assessment of the opening match.  Wayyyyy too much interference without a DQ.  That and the constant ref beatings really have me questioning Court's commitment to old-school booking
  • Harry Boy Smith has the worst diving headbutt I've ever seen
  • Teddy Hart continues his "2003 ROH/CAW created by a 13 year old" offense, hitting a Canadian Destroyer and various other convoluted maneuvers right off a hot tag.  All that was missing was a Playmaker.

I don't know why I'm so focused on what people look like on this show but here we are

  • The white guy in Injustice looks like a young Matthew Lillard and that's fine
  • Holliday looks like 75% of the guys you see in higher end, well-shot, artistic porn like xart.com or something
  • Harry has an Eye of Horus shaved into his head and it looks ridiculous

The War Games lacked a little pep in the entrance "run out an wreck shit" department.  I was impressed with the Von Erichs tag match mostly due to how it came off like them coming out to a fight.  This seemed more muted I think because there wasn't enough room in the cage for everyone to bounce around like a standard two ring War Games.  Ross especially didn't seem to have the fire he displayed earlier.  The finish was solid with the Doomsday Day Device Iron Claw being a suitable finish and Gotch was one of the right Contra people who could drop the fall (they could have done similar with the bloody Samael easily but not to the new guy or Fatu).  I would say the middle dragged more than it should have with a lot of meandering.
