MLW Deserves Its Own Thread

Also, I know that Selina is the heel and everything but the more Konnan goes on about her phone the more he's becoming a dick about the whole thing.  It would make sense if it's a slow burn towards a double turn but there's no signs of that.

My feelings are mixed.  On the one hand, I am curious as to what is on her phone that is so incendiary that she is agreeing to all of these demands..

On the other hand, why doesn't she just call the cops and get her property back?

Oh, and as much as I appreciate Ace Austin trying to do something new and cheat by using stage magic, it just serves as a painful reminder how WWE ruined the Spellbinder gimmick.  Fucking Phantasio, I swear...

I don’t know how Savio agreed to take that.

MLW trying to make lemonade out of lemons in this week's episode and trying to sell the botch as a deliberate attempt by Hammestone to cripple Vega was fucking awesome!  God bless Court Bauer's carny black heart.

BAN THE NIGHTMARE PENDULUM~!  like for reals before he fucking kills somebody.

Konnan threatened to show whatever’s on the phone to the cops when she brought that up this week.

That's dumb because if there is any evidence of criminal activity on her phone, it would be a federal offense here in the states as well as the country of origin. Selina would be in big trouble, but not the only one.

Konnan merely being in possession of the phone, being knowledgeable of evidence of criminal activity on the device, and choosing not to give it to the police is criminal prima facea withholding of evidence.

It would've been better if Konnan had just said that he'd have uploaded her booty pix to MLW.com or forwarded any incendiary business e-mails to the cloud or something if she didn't meet his demands.

So what you're saying is that, if someone tries to murder you with a car in the parking lot of a WWE wrestling event, the correct course of action is not to investigate the attempted murder yourself?  Next you'll be telling us that, if someone tells you he investigated the attempt on your life and knows who the culprit is, you should try to get him to tell you right then instead of waiting one week for the next televised broadcast of the wrestling show.

Compared to WWE, the Konan angle makes perfect sense to me.  ?

If you insist on trying to apply logic to wrestling angles, Vince McMahon's attorneys are going to want to have a word with you.

I am trying to figure out I invalidated my argument concerning the absurdity of the MLW angle by giving the WWE angle a pass.  I don't recall doing so.

Tried to watch Kings of Colosseum: less than 5 minutes in, Cornette is slut-shaming Aria Blake and Hammerstone is doing a bad Rick Rude promo. They even called his challenge three different names. But the big thing was the comment towards Blake. Turned it off right after. Fucking Cornette.

HOT TAKE: anyone over 60 should not have a major role in pro wrestling anymore. Period.

I am catching up to MLW and while Cornette's comments about Blake are really bad, that other goof talking about how she probably sells her bath water online to guys was so awful that even Cornette was freaked about it.   That women's division is going to be something if it actually happens.

Also was Cornette just fucking with people or is Dr Wagner Jr actually pronounced like it begins with a V not a W?   If so then not only  have the vast majority in the US have screwed it up but a decent number in AAA as well

As someone who has seen Low Ki almost his entire career, the sudden knockout gimmick is really bad.  I mean I remember he would shoot knock out people with kicks to the head.  now we are supposed to believe that knees to the chest and stomach does the same thing.  That one in Chicago against Dominguez I think  barely connected and they selling it like he is unconscious

The Selling her bath water online thing was a cultural reference to social media sexy lady and outrageous troll Belle Delphine. Who got a lot of actual media coverage by setting up a pornhub account and posting a series of non pornographic videos on there. Then she started selling her "bath water" online because she's basically just a rinser.

It's like how German/Amercian futbol coach David Wagner pronounces his name "wag-ner" but since he is Getman, everyone says it as "Vag-ner."

(Sinilar to Roberto Martinez, who pronounces it the American way and not the European way.)

This Low Ki run of KOs is ultra wrestlecrap at it's 2019 finest.

I want to be a fan of MLW - maybe for the well-lit-nice-looking platform it provides alone.  I also think they have a really fantastic roster-especially considering the size of the promotion.  I tune in to their shows and each week I feel like they're only a few moves from really having something.  That said, there is an endless parade of goofy shit on these shows.  Bad acting, bad promos, lame angles, sloppy wrestling, terrible finishes.

This week was maybe a little below par.

I really hope AEW isn't bringing in Schiavone to call matches.  He certainly isn't the worst, but he's also not remotely believable.  He has a voice, but poor improvisational phrasing skills.

I like La Parka, and (see great potential) in Jimmy Havoc, but I needed the FFWD during the 'Hardcore!!!' Main Event.  The same can be said for pretty much the entire show.

It didn't quite work, but I liked the idea of Mance Warner bringing out a chainsaw.  Aligning his image with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a good idea.  I truly believe Mance Warner has the potential to be a big star in the very near future. The chainsaw appearance would have been stronger if he’d been rushed by security and cops and arrested for wielding a chainsaw in a public place with the intent to attack people.

The Konnan-Selina shaming nonsense is really lame.

Austin Aries continues to look kinda strange to me (maybe it's the new look), but also refreshingly crisp in-ring (love to see him get a run in NJPW).  He has an excellent moveset.  The match didn't really do anything for me.  This Ace Austin cane nonsense is also ultra wrestlecrap.  Aries is a really capable promo, but that was a bit awkward.

I really dig the Hammerstone-Savio angle.  Let that be a lesson to them - use legit in ring wrestling to tell a goddamned story.  Simple and effective.

The Harts are week to week a fascinatingly mostly bad promo.  Teddy is kinda horrible, but also kinda amusingly batshit real.  Harry just needs better direction.  But Pillman Jr is clearly on the rise both in ring and on the mic.  Kind of a shame to see him lowered to the writing of this skit.  There's a shot of a man pissing, and the piss hitting the jacket, and I ask myself: Why am I watching this?

I think this weekend's taping only has two matches:

  • Teddy Hart vs. MJF (MLW Middleweight Championship)
  • Hijo del LA PARK vs. Zenshi

I would imagine that there will also be War Chamber and CONTRA stuff going on.

Hart winning his match has to be kinda mailed in given Austin Aries's strong promo in the last episode.  No way they take the belt off of Teddy before Austin gets a crack at him.

The mugshot at the start implied Mance Warner was 2 metres tall. That's Six foot Eight. I don't know that he's even six foot nothing.

Zenshi vs Hijo del LA Park was craziness, even before Hijo nearly killed Zen with that Huracanrana botch. But he must have been fine, because he hit the standing Shooting Star immediately. And then the coast to coast was insane. I have the strangest feeling this guy is headed for a bigger stage than MLW sooner rather than later.

Why does Simon Gotch always film his promos separately from the other Contra members? Speaking of promos, lots of them on this show. Not much angle advancement in the promos, mind. We still don't know who the last man in the War Chamber is going to be. The Lawlor vs Fatu title rematch is next week, they did announce that.

EDIT: And Teddy Hart vs MJF had some nice spots. Reversing a boot chokein the corner into a flying rolling ankle lock was sweet as hell. But it does seem odd, in a company where the Middleweight Division is packed with flyers, that the title match should be basically one guy doing a mix of flying and science, and the other doing heavyweight moves and heel stooging.

I just switched streaming services and now get MLW, so I checked out an episode last night.  Oof.  Please tell me it gets better.  Zenshi vs Park was sloppy and ended with a lame spinnging flipping cutter that was so out of nowhere, badly shot, and preceded by more awesome moves, that it felt so flat.  Then Park pops right up and gets his heat right back with a chairshot.  So everybody gets ove r and nobody gets over.  I can see that shit in WWE, so no thank you.   Then we got like 20-30 minutes of promos and skits, then one more match.  I've somehow spent my entire fandom avoiding Teddy Hart -- because he's never wrestled for the companies I've watched -- and now I'm glad I did.  The guy's whole offense is finishers, like a CAW created by a 12 year old, or like a dude who stepped out of a time machine from the worst of 2003 ROH.

And what's the deal with titles?  The have middleweight, heavyweight, and openweight?  Which is the top belt?

I love Filthy Tom on the F4W podcasts but he needs some promo help here.

Just a bunch of random thoughts.  Guys who've watched this longer: does it get better than this?

Usually it's a brawl promotion that does a far better sense of "This is out of control mayhem" than a lot of current brawls do. This show was not that. But usually of your 42 minute long hour show, with MLW over 30 minutes of that is action in the ring, whilst this show (an exception to the norm) was more than half talking. So usually it's better, yeah.

This is probably the best description of Teddy Hart I've ever read.

I enjoy him popping up on certain shows, e.g., random WM weekend stuff that's just wacky one-off stuff, but in no way does his style belong in an episodic week-to-week TV promotion. Yikes. He COULD be really good, but he just choses to want to do a few highspots a match and nothing more.
