Eh...This is the same company that doesn't give a shit about what anyone else thinks when it comes to Saudi Arabia and they welcomed back Hulk Hogan on the shakiest of grounds where Hogan put more of the blame on "THERE'S MICROPHONES EVERYWHERE, BROTHER."

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if nothing happened.

Different cost-benefit analysis.

  • They have a lot to gain by riding out the media storm with the KSA.
  • There's still money to be gained from Hogan's image.
  • They have nothing to gain by standing with Lars, but risk a bad look for no reason.

"That's not a microphone, brother." - Hogan on tape next year.

You're all way more positive about WWE doing the right thing than I am.

Here's how it ends: Lars eventually issues some kind of apology that isn't really an apology for his past behavior and the machine keeps running. He said and did all of this shit as an adult and it wasn't even that long ago. If WWE didn't do anything about it when it first came up, they're not going to do much about it now other than pushing Lars to apologize.

Apologies mean nothing though. It doesn't mean that Lars isn't a meathead bigot anymore, it doesn't erase any of his hateful comments. In fact, and this was something pointed out in that Reddit thread, some of the people they've booked him to beat the shit out of so far are people he's said really ignorant things about. All that tells me is that WWE is more than aware and just like Sami or Mojo are being booked to be this voice of Vince McMahon against the people, this is just their way of thumbing their nose at anyone that might be upset over those comments.

Or I'm reaching. I don't know, but it's hard to trust this company farther than I can throw them.

I remember kinda talking about this here with a couple guys when it first came out, but something else among all the obviously insanely horrible racist shit he said was how he made fun of people with mental health issues, MISSED HIS DEBUT BECAUSE OF HIS OWN, then started talking about "easily offended snowflakes" on Twitter.

I said at the time that, as someone who's dealt with that stuff, Id be a hypocrite if I was offended if it was used on TV since I gladly sat through so much other horrible crap WWE has done over the years (think of sort of a 'First they came for the socialists...' thing).

But I guess the more I think about it, I'd kinda not be ok with it, because this guy chose to be a real jerk instead of being a champion for people who deal with that stuff. I'm 31 years old so I could give a shit, but it might be a big deal to a kid or teenager who feels alone because of it. How cool would it be if he did for mental health issues what Roman or Connors Cure does for cancer? But that's not what he did. He chose to be a butt hole instead.

And again: this is WITHOUT EVEN MENTIONING THE RACISM. I have black family you goofy fucking ogre!

It's not about trusting this company to "do the right thing" or anything of the sort. It's just that they're as cynically risk averse as any other company out there. And unlike the Hogan and Saudi situations, there's no a lot of upside on the other side of the scales here. If this gets any sort of traction outside the wrestling bubble, the calculus from a business standpoint is laughably easy with a nobody like Lars.

Yeah. Ultimately, how he's acted recently is going to be the real problem.

If he was just the "disenfranchised" guy, he was a real bigoted fuckhead- but it was 15 years ago. A lot of people have done shit they weren't proud of when they were young and stupid, and as social justice marches on, if your generation did it right, you WILL live to see yourself become the villain, because the progress of social equality moved to something you could not have seen coming in your era.

If there was even the "they had proof of stuff he said even three months before he went to the Performance Center"...there was proof they signed this guy when he was a provable bigoted fuckhead at the time- but eh. He was in the Performance Center for six years before he made it to TV, there's at least a possible chance he grew as a person being forced to deal with multiple people of different groups than his.

If he's still Tweeting stuff like that, even today, even AFTER his own mental breakdown? Yeah, fuck this guy. He's rotten to the core and he will NEVER change.

Does being cynically risk averse include booking their product into the dirt where they've eroded their viewership to extremely low levels?

One has nothing to do with the other.

And those chickens haven't come home to roost quite yet. I'm certainly not accusing them of taking a long view in their aversion to risk. Complacency and short-term thinking are also baked into the pie.

Anyway, since the Sasha thread is still closed for some reason - she was "listed internally" for the European tour but didn't make the trip overseas with the Raw roster on Tuesday.

What if you didn't have black family?

I'd feel the same way: fuck that guy.

Edit: you know what? This kinda bothered me man. I wasn't gonna say anything, but what do you think, I'd be at a fucking Klan rally?

The Lars thing I brought up to @OSJ a couple pages back blew up again on Reddit, prompting this

From the Reddit thread...

"On the flip side I will ask what are Kofi and R Truth supposed to be? A PG black panther stable? I always wondered why they had to team up two black guys. Both those guys look like they could be in a prison black gang."

This guy is going to have another panic attack when the locker room confronts him about this.

Again, all I can say is, "Jesus, this company."

Is there a reason why you wouldn't use these upfronts to try and portray a NEW star? Someone like Ricochet or Balor? Hell, maybe pull someone else off the tour, like Seth or Roman and have them be there?

Also, part of me wonders if Roman being in Hobbs and Shaw will be like the Rock being in The Mummy 2. The trailer makes it a point to give Roman some good coverage as if to say, "yes, Roman Reigns, WWE superstar, is in this movie." Again, as long as Roman is booked like a strong, ass kicking face and doesn't get booked to look like a dope, then I'm relatively ok with him being booked on top. And if being in Hobbs and Shaw helps bring in some new viewers, then that's just another positive. It might actually be a good opportunity for a lot of folks. If you have new eyes on the product, you should be making everyone look strong.

No, just using words against their intention for humor. No slight against you. If you're ever at a Klan rally, I'll end up looking quite the fool though.

This is for advertisers, the press, and people who work in that industry. They may care enough to look John or Nikki's way. Who cares about Ricochet and Balor?

And the tour they are on is Europe

To pull someone off that is a big deal - especially when the UK shows probably do their best house show business of the year

Less than ten minutes screen time, than returning as awful CGI?

Lars wasn't young and stupid. He was in his mid 20s. I'm not letting the young argument slide especially given that many minorities in this country ages 15 and up are expected to be full blown adults. Dumb asshole bigots who are in their mid 20s can deal with whatever is thrown their way.
