MAY 2019 WRESTLING TALK

Recommended Posts

Was that the first time a Monthly Wrestling Talk thread has gone a full 24 hours with no posts?

There was a point yesterday with no posts for a while and I thought either  the board was broken or Phil/Dolfan had closed it during the PPV.

Anyone who's a total disciple of McMahon-ism and that no other wrestling exists will be thinking that this was the deadest weekend in board history.

Is Bret Hart's entrance music public domain now, or has he bought the publishing himself? Because he had his WWE tune at the WWE HoF, UFC Calgary and AEW.

It's their loss.

This thread will be especially hot once AEW starts on TNT. Mostly with re-tread arguments comparing wrestling prgramming on major television channels from the '90s, which:

a) I am excited about

b) I'm guessing the mods are not

I'm not sure that the hypothetical poster you guys are referring to exists.

Speaking of Bret and the Rhodes family, did Bret and Dusty ever wrestle eachother?

The when of this would be tricky. Dusty came to WWF in 5/89. The Harts turned in 88. Dusty turned heel in 98 but Bret was more heel than not and Dusty was just managing. It'd have to be earlier and in most places, Bret would have been a face. Maybe in Japan? They were on NJPW tours in the early 80s, and on a couple together. But it looks like they just teamed.

2/8/82 - Inoki/Fujinami/Kimura vs Dusty/Dynamite/Bret

and

1/5/84 - Inoki/Fujinami/Kido vs Dusty/Buddy Rose/Bret Hart

Both of which sound awesome, to be honest.

With the arrival of AEW, I think I’m finally at peace with the loss of March Madness.

I swear I asked this same question or a similar one not that long ago.

We need to get Matt a copy of this Dusty/Buddy/Bret match.

As longs these people keep to their own threads, let them post to their hearts content.

Well, I'll just take a few wild guesses and ask some people. @Greggulator, @Burgundy LaRue, @Eivion  what wrestling do you watch besides WWE?

What? No harm in asking, is there? If it turns out the whole board watches Impact, Defiant Loaded and MLW Fusion every week, but most of them never post about it, fair enough. But I'm guessing that some people might just watch the biggest promotion and I picked three names at random who I didn't remember seeing in any indie threads.

Or are you a massive WWE supporter and you're upset that I didn't ask you? In which case, just saying "I only watch WWE, because..." would be fine.

If you're being a dick because you thought I was being a dick and you felt like reciprocating, well... I wasn't being a dick. We were discussing whether or not some people on the board only watch the biggest promotion. I think such people exist. @MORELOCK disagrees. And with me not having the transatlantic psychic powers that would allow me to look into people's head and see what they know, I decided to actually ask some.

I'm pretty sure @Cristobal only watches WWE stuff. But he's not been around much (in threads I've been in). And I've not seen him in GTA because I stopped playing it really late at night all the time.

Bruh, why would you think this is necessary? Just let people enjoy what they enjoy.

This conversation about who watches what is pitched in a weird way. "Their loss?" Not if they're happy with what they already watch. Let 'em cook.

Let's put our differences aside. With Memorial Day tomorrow, let's honor our veterans, our friends and family members that made the ultimate sacrifice. Let's enjoy our picnics and our barbecues with our hamburgers and hot dogs. Let's enjoy the beach and our swimming pools. Let's all be peaceful. You know what I mean?

The only thing I'll add to the Invasion stuff: I'm pretty sure it was the highest non-WM PPV in history. My opinion is you bring in Goldberg, figure out the finances, put him against Austin and you have the largest buyrate ever that still would stand. IMO.

You kinda missed the most important one:  Rhodes/Harts/Koko vs. DiBiase/Taker/Valentine/Honky at Survivor Series 90.  That to me was the match where Bret became BRET.  That final 4 minutes with Bret vs. DiBiase was when he absolutely became a singles star.

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to take this. If you're actually curious I mainly just watch WWE and Stardom. I watch other stuff, but there is so much of the other two that I don't get to much else, even stuff I would probably love like BJW & AJPW. Occasionally I'll watch NJPW's AXS show, but fell quite a bit behind (I have quite a few episodes I'll need to catch up on soon). I watch current joshi matches others seem to rank high if I can find them on youtube. Occasionally  I'll catch a women's indy match, usually because the talent involved got my interest from working Stardom. With the summer coming up I'll probably make time to start watching older stuff again like I normally do around this time. That has leaned towards joshi the past couple of years (early 90s AJW mostly). May try to catch something else this time around. There is a ton of NA wrestling I have never caught. I really should take advantage of the WWE network subscription beyond current events  more and check out whats on there. There is also plenty of lucha libre I've never caught. Feel free to make some suggestions if you have any.

The question was times Bret faced Dusty, right? I added some bonus Japan stuff when I went looking for possible times that they had faced each other. To be fair, I never went looking for times that they faced each other in the WWF. You could potentially have some battle royals maybe?

Hey, here we go:

WWF @ Boston, MA - Boston Garden - November 11, 1990 (6,500; 5,000 paid)

Earthquake won a bunkhouse battle royal; other participants included: Roddy Piper, the Legion of Doom, Tugboat, Jim Duggan, Saba Simba, Dusty Rhodes, WWF Tag Team Champions Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart, the Black Demon, Dino Bravo, Demolition Ax & Crush, Tito Santana, the Warlord, Boris Zhukov, Ted Dibiase, Virgil, Greg Valentine, & the Honkytonk Man

There's your answer. It's possible?

I watched a Hashimoto vs The Barbarian match tonight? It was ok but just ok. Next up is Cam-Am Express vs the State Patrol. Since we're publicly shaming people or something. I've never seen Kenny Omega wrestle. I'm good.

I watch the AAA channel on Pluto sometimes, and generally I find their house style to be inscrutable, but sometimes, there's a bloody brawl that's cool or some rudo walks around booting dudes stiffly in the face, and it's entertaining enough.
