2019 Summer Blockbuster Movie Pool

I am fairly sure that me, The Natural and Sorceress Knight being in the Top 10 at the same time is a sure sign of the Apocalypse.  I am positive that it is in there somewhere in Revelations.

Well at least its box office is doing what most of us thought

Just realized something:

Worth noting that the guy who put it 9th (on his RT list) is JRGoldman, who was already in 1st place.

I had assumed JR was going to have a very healthy lead after this next update - BUT he also put Lion King 6th on his box office list when it is now on pace to (eventually) be an easy first place.  So that's going to erase at least some of his advantage.

The worst part of actually being in the pennant race is realizing that the "insert image from URL" line is not working.

But seriously, the JT/Natural/me level bypasses "surprise", bypasses"upset", bypasses "sign of the apocalypse", and goes straight to "aww shit, i saw this movie a million times at pretentious film festivals. One or more of the three of us is totally going to die while in the top six, leading to S.K.o.S. and RIPPA going on a touching road trip to England, Virginia, and Rhode Island to present the DVD to our family while meeting an quirky cast of characters and reflecting on life and loss."

I just won't be used to you having an actual choice this time

You might have to clear the autofill cache on your browser this year.

I'm pretty sure the Seventh Trumpet sounds shortly after SKOS post an update with those standings.

And of course, you'd put yourself in first place. ?

Since that tweet came out it dropped to 89% so lower than John Wick

That is making me giggle

There are quite a few movies right at that level.  John Wick is locked at 89.56% RT, Rocketman is locked at 89.30% RT, Spider-Man is at 89.92% RT right now.

Once Upon A Time is at 88.59% RT right now, so lower than all of them.  Still room for that to change though

Disney is the new Michael Bay Transformers.

Eh, the CGI / Live Action conversions of The Jungle Book and Beauty & The Beast were well received from a critical standpoint and also made decent box office.

I think that the recent crop are receiving backlash from folks that would rather see limited re-releases of the animated classics rather than see Disney continue the CGI + Live Action trend.

It also does not help that Lion King and Aladdin both stink of deliberate profit margins and don't really feel like earnest efforts to tell classic Disney animated stories in a different way.

Unlike the fairly recent Jungle Book joint which IMO was light years better than the cartoon.

Well, there also was the fact that Jungle Book and Lion King were opposite sides of the coin. There was a lot of cheesy crap in the cartoon version, so even if Jungle Book is a CGI-fest, you can still go a different direction and make a good movie.

Lion King is a CGI-fest with the same plot and classic. For all intents and purposes, it's just...the same movie, just a little prettier. It's that stupid "Psycho" shot-for-shot remake in a cartoon version.

I have had 13th place on lockdown

I'm taking that shit next update. It's been a steady fall for me.

If this was a NCAA BBall tournament game during the 2nd round, this is the point of the game where the commentators talk about how nice the school/program is and how the coach and team had a good run despite a whole entire half still to play while the kids on the bench have a thousand yard stare holding towels to their face and wonder if they can somehow overcome a 30+ point deficit. My cinderella run died before it could ever start.

But enough about me going up to the top 4, what about the rest of this?
