Brian Fowler
Captain Marvel passed a billion this week, the 38th movie to do so, the seventh from the MCU, and their third in their last four movies and in just over a year. Endgame is opening day and date nearly everywhere, including China, which makes it a virtual lock to break Infinity War's record for global open (IW didn't open in China until later) Edited April 6, 2019 by Brian Fowler

Brian Fowler
Hellboy opened to just $12 million domestic. Even with the restrained $50 million reported budget, it is going to have to clean up internationally to have even a chance of breaking even. Box Office Mojo doesn't have any foreign numbers up yet, but i think it's also a "not allowed in China due to supernatural elements" movie, so it loses what would be possibly it's best chance. In short, don't expect a sequel, and don't expect it to hang around theaters for long.

Brian Fowler
And the foreign numbers are even worse for Anung Un Rama. Just $10.3 million. And with only one more weekend before Endgame, it will likely die quickly.
Brian Fowler
So, um, Avengers might be overperforming opening weekend.
John from Cincinnati
Give it another day to see if that holds, but blowing the doors off the domestic record by $40+ million after setting that record a year ago is pretty wild. And all things considered, that record is probably going to stand for a while. Edited April 26, 2019 by West Newbury Bad Boy
odessasteps
I wonder if they can say how much money it made in the bank before any actual screenings took place.
John from Cincinnati
Also, considering the records it's going to break even with its runtime, average $/screen is gonna be silly. Edited April 26, 2019 by West Newbury Bad Boy
tbarrie
I like how Captain Marvel, in its seventh week, managed to move back into the #1 spot for a day. I guess a lot of people (myself included) figured we'd better see it before Endgame comes out.

Brian Fowler
$156.7 million dollars Friday, domestic. Shattered that record. Also, once you throw in worldwide, by the end of day Friday in the US, it had broken Infinity War's record for biggest worldwide opening weekend. With no Sundays anywhere and Saturday still rolling across the world. They had been throwing out $300 million for the opening weekend a few days ago, but today's update on BOM said $345 million plus is looking likely. That's, uh, almost 90 million more than Infinity War. This is also going to be the fourth billion dollar worldwide MCU movie Disney has released in about 15 months. They bought Marvel for $4.24 billion in 2009, and it's looking like one of the greatest investments in the history of entertainment.

Brian Fowler
So the actuals are even more stunning. All told, it broke infinity War's domestic opening record by just under $100 million. Like, less than 600K under. It's insane.
Brian Fowler
Avatar reached $2 billion worldwide in 47 days. Endgame just broke that record, getting there in 11. It also moved about a million above Titanic for second all-time worldwide. Avatars record might officially be in jeopardy. Domestic, the estimates have the second weekend about 4 million shy of Force Awakens, but Marvel movirs in particular tend to almost always adjust up on Monday, so it could be real close. It moved into 9th all-time domestic, above Incredibles 2. If it adjusts up pretty much at all, it'll be ahead of The Last Jedi, and could pass The Avengers. In short, all the money.
