Snoke is dead, meaning First Order leadership is open. Not like Snoke was some wonderfully built character. We had no idea what his goals even were.

Rey's parentage wasn't the only part of her story. Luke's training with Obi Wan and Yoda was short lived, and he had to mostly wing it. Rey is way closer to Vader/Anakin in power than Luke was and is more of a natural ability wise.

There is more Resistance alive than what we see in the film, and the point of the end was that there was still hope to rebuild.

Like I said there was plenty left to build on, just maybe not for one final film in a trilogy.

Making Star Wars is saying the new film is going to have  "new threat from Beyond." Sorry but it's a bit late to suddenly throw in a new threat from beyond for the final act.

See, the real thing is, you have to switch off your brain for Star Wars.  Because they were all bad movies, and for an advanced society, the average IQ of the characters is only a couple points above residents of the planet Spengo.

How often are they on the money because that is ridiculous of true.

In terms of Star Wars dirt sheets they are probably the most reliable and legitimate one out there. At least it was the case when Force Awakens was coming out.

I really hope that's not true because to suddenly introduce some new threat from beyond in the last trilogy movie is insane.

I actually think it would be an interesting development if a new threat from outside their galaxy showed up and took a shit all over this never-ending Empire/First Order/Rebellion/Resistance conflict.  That might allow this narrative to move forward even more than TLJ already has.

That's the thing about JJ Abrams. He sets up all this interesting mystery box stuff and then never follows up on it.

Not that I'm a Rian Johnson hater, but I think him completely ignoring such a cool idea like the Knights of Ren was a total waste. I was kind of hoping like some sort of Shounen Jump anime scene where all the mini-boss/boss level characters meet up and make fun of Kylo for getting curb stomped by Rey. Something like this. Think the first time we see all the captains in Soul Society in Bleach.

I will sustain myself on the nerd rage for decades if the Vong show up at the end of this movie.  It will be glorious.

Was the story with the Vong actually bad? I've never read it, just heard about the the hate towards it. I know Chewbacca dying in it pissed a lot of people off. The only thing I've read of the Vong was their small part in first Legacy comic.

The thing is Johnson had to spend the time he had with Ren essentially fixing him from the whiny mess so many hated him for being in TFA. The Knights are a concept that would be better explored post TLJ fixing which again goes back to my general opinion that things would be so much better i they weren't so committed to making this a trilogy.

Was he a whiny mess in The Force Awakens? I genuinely liked the character. He was bad but more like the antithesis of Darth Vader. Like he's trying so hard to be the Dark Lord of the Sith when deep down he's not. I'm not sure how he was less of a whiny mess in The Last Jedi.

I'm not sure I buy the whole "fixing Kylo Ren" thing.

You excuse Johnson saying he had "fix the mess of Kylo Ren" yet what about all the narrative messes he did create with Last Jedi? Like Holdo's stupid plan, Poe's stupid plan, Rose and Finn's stupid plan, Stuttering Del Toro, and Casino Planet.

Star Wars pretty much set the standard on this whole trilogy thing. So that's one tradition they aren't going to break.

I liked him TFA as well. TLJ cemented his choices on who and what he wanted to be, eliminating the inner conflict that made him comes across as whiny to most.

Holdo's plan wasn't stupid outside of not telling the rest of the fleet or at least Poe who had a decent position within the Resistance. That was actually one of the biggest flaws to me in TLJ. It was a weird narrative choice seemingly only done to create an unneeded tension. The Casino Planet didn't bother me. What was Rose and Finn's stupid plan?

Both were stupid Abrams mystery boxes and I'm glad Johnson threw them out.  Better to get rid of them than go into the third movie with them weighing down the plot and begging for a good resolution that you know won't be delivered.

Trusting stuttering Benicio del Toro as part of their stupid plan.

Actually, their major dumbshit moment was parking in a no parking zone.  Had they legally parked, they would've gotten the right Codebreaker.

I can agree with this. Benicio del Toro could be a saint I would still think he looks like one of the most Shady motherfuckers alive.

Not to mention taking his word on the scantest of evidence in the first place.

Mumblecore: "I can hack de stuffs."

2 Dope Dopes: "Ummm..."

*Mumblecore hacks a fucking jail cell*

2 Dope Dopes: "Yep, he can obviously hack an Imperial star cruiser! You're hired!  Now we're off to see the Wizard!"

That is my biggest issue with Episode VIII. Snoke was a great mystery character in VII, we know who he is, but nothing about him or how he came to be. But, instead of build on that, VIII just kills him off and now we'll probably never know.

I like how he was used to further Rey and Ren's stories though I can understand the issue people have with his story not getting further built. The thing is the Emperor was in more or less the same boat. We really only know what was behind him and his motives due to the prequel trilogies, books, and animations. At least in the currently trilogy Snoke isn't the actual end boss like the Palpatine was.

I only like what happened to Snoke because it debunked every fake rumor and theory that got reported for the film. It proved that all these internet scoopers are dumb hucksters that are full of shit and just report their glorified fan fiction as leaks. Star Wars Theory and Mike Zeroh are the worst offenders. Fuck them.

Jokes aside, isn't 'a new threat from beyond' what George Lucas originally wanted to do with VII-IX?

If anything, all this new trilogy and some of these comments has proved is that opening the series up to a committee instead of leaving it to a visionary just unnecessarily muddies the narrative waters. I'd completely forgot about the Knights of Ren but FWIW I liked Rian's scorched earth policy as everything felt kind of bloated. We're down to a bare bones singular focus with IX and I think it will be all the better for it

I still have a hard time believing the hypothesis that Rian purposely gutted this series or whatever people are saying Rian did. This whole series is still being overseen by JJ and Kathleen Kennedy. I mean sure, maybe it's possible because Kennedy apparently had no idea what was going on with Rogue One for a long time and then when she found out she shitcanned Lord and Miller. But still, you have to assume JJ and Kennedy were both like, ok, whatever, we trust you and now we're going to just turn our backs and let you do what you want.

The trilogy movies are all too carefully planned out to just let Rian come in and fuck everything up. However, it's entirely possible that they had a plan and when they hired Rian he had a different idea in mind and they liked that more and so they changed their plans for episodes 8 and 9.
