Control
I have discovered that there’s a pretty vocal contingent of Tweeters who seem to unironically think Gianni Valletta is great—like, the best part of AJ—and I just can’t wrap my head around it. Control
There are also Valletta truthers out there claiming that his recent high-profile wins are the result of DARK MONEY or some other insidious influence at work in AJ, like the Maltese gov’t or Mafia have a vested influence in Valletta getting some scalps in a mid-level Japanese fed. This is laughable for many reasons, not the least of which is that wrestling is already fixed.

Belgian_Waffle
Are we all in agreement that the Carny final was, like, super great? Spoiler Felt like a watershed moment in "the Miyahara Era" after outsiders won the past three tournaments. And Jake Lee was tremendous in defeat, even more so than Nomura was the month before.

Beech27
Nakajima, of course, got his start in Kensuke Office too. Another would be Zeus, who began in Osaka Pro.
Archibald
This would be very good thing. I think he has developed his character nicely in last year and I find him rather entertaining in those tag matches, but he never clicked in G1 and that spot could really go to someone new.

Tanahashi's background was his university's pro-wrestling club, which is a strange sub-section of the micro-indie world (was covered in some documentary, they ran a big show at Korakuen). Not quite the same thing because he became a Young Lion of NJPW though, but unlike most who do he had wrestled 'pro' before. Belgian_Waffle
Can we count Tomohiro Ishii since he came from Choshu's ridiculous WJ Pro? I guess I'm going back way too far at this point.

Digging the other examples also but this was more what I really had in mind with the original question. Not so much guys that were trained by Kensuke and Choshu or worked in vanity feds, but the more rag-tag "let's put on a wrestling show" leagues that have YouTube channels of single-camera shoots at shopping malls and local fairs. Does any footage of Tanahashi's "university" club days exist?

lostinube
I think these are up to date numbers. I haven't used any of them so I can't speak to the quality. The All Japan one is laid out the most like NJPW World though. DDT used to have fan club tiers and have changed their system recently to the Universe version so I'm not sure what's going on there. All Japan 900 yen a month https://www.ajpw.tv/ Niconico Pro Wrestling Channel (various groups) 540 yen a month https://ch.nicovideo.jp/nicopro DDT Universe 900 yen a month https://www.ddtpro.com/universe Big Japan 888 yen a month https://bjwcore.com/ Stardom 920 yen a month https://www.stardom-world.com/ Dragon Gate 1500 yen a month https://dragongate.live/
lostinube
The Bodyguard started out in Osaka Pro too. Ishii started out in WAR, as did Masaaki Mochizuki. And Honma has at this point been in NJPW longer than Big Japan. Of the names listed on the Japanese wiki article about university pro wrestling the most notable ones after Tanahashi are Hayabusa, Men's Teioh, Danshoku Dino, Togi Makabe and Harashima. Would Tajiri count as an indy guy gone big?
