WWE's annual top ten MOTY so *SPOILER ALERT* as tags are playing up on my tablet:

WWE Network News reported that this is the match list for WWE's Top 10 Matches of 2019 special that will air on the Network starting at 3:25 p.m. Eastern time on Monday:

  1. Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston (WrestleMania 35)
  2. Hell in a Cell match: Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks (Hell in a Cell)
  3. Two-out-of-three falls match: Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole (NXT TakeOver: New York)
  4. Seth Rollins vs. AJ Styles (Money in the Bank)
  5. Ronda Rousey vs. Sasha Banks (Royal Rumble)
  6. Money in the Bank ladder match: Randy Orton vs. Mustafa Ali vs. Andrade vs. Baron Corbin vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Finn Balor vs. Ricochet (Money in the Bank)
  7. Pete Dunne vs. WALTER (NXT TakeOver: New York)
  8. Elimination Chamber match: Daniel Bryan vs. Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton (Elimination Chamber)
  9. Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch (WrestleMania 35)
  10. Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins (SummerSlam)

WWE's #1 is my #5. Criminal WALTER/Tyler Bate from NXT TakeOver: Cardiff isn't there. Interesting that only two NXT matches make the cut. 2019 won't go down as a truly great year like 2015 and 2018.

Happy Sasha Banks' matches with Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey are included. The Elimination Chamber match should be a lot higher, after 10 years it knocked off the RAW Elimination Chamber match at No Way Out 2009 as the best Elimination Chamber match. The gauntlet match involving those six on the pre Smackdown Live Elimination Chamber 2019 show should be here. Same goes for the Women's WarGames. No tag team matches made the cut. Makes me and Teddy Long sad.

The list is ok I guess. Dunne had my least favorite matches with WALTER out of British Strong Style. I'd have taken Bate's or Seven's matches over it. I'm not shocked it was named though since Dunne is the one from that group they want to sell.

Honestly the NXTs kind of got screwed. The lack of Bate/WALTER is a noticeable snub to NXT UK. The lack of Rhea/Shayna or the women's War games is a noticeable snub to NXT's women's division. Those three matches were better than both of the Takeover New York matches included. Kind of shocked they didn't try to sneak in any of the Lee/Dijakovic matches.

Rollins/AJ is an odd case of a forgettable great match. Like its easily an arguable top ten, but man was there a lot more from this year I would rather go out of my way to see. Like I probably enjoyed both of Brock matches more despite the AJ match probably being better. I wish they had chosen the Balor match as far as Brock matches go.

Banks' matches with Rousey and Becky placing is good. The lack of Asuka/Becky is disappointing. Out of the great women's matches WWE had this year I think the WM triple threat was easily the weakest. War Games, Rhea/Shayna, Becky/Asuka, Becky/Sasha, & Sasha/Rousey were all better.

MITB placing is probably the most egregious choice on the list. It really doesn't belong at all. Even Gargano/Cole had the epic deal behind though i'm mostly mixed on it. I at least appreciate that the chose the best of their three big matches.

I think they could come up with a worse list.

It has something from Kofimania up top, and probably my personal WWE MOTY, so that's fine. And they have the Elimination Chamber match on there, which would be high on my list for similar reasons. There was little in WWE this year that was more emotionally resonant than that run up to Mania for Kofi. Three of my top five would probably be Kofimania stuff if I felt compelled to put together my own list this year.

Less NXT stuff is fine as I normally find it over-represented on these lists. Cole-Gargano is not something I enjoyed, but they're billed as top stars and a lot of other people seemed to enjoy those matches so it is what it is. The UK brand deserved some recognition, and I don't mind that the Bate match missed the cut. The Dunne match was pretty good from what I recall. I guess I'd have chosen the Women's Wargames over any of these.

They tend to like getting some top stars on these lists, and I think the top-ranked matches for both Becky and Seth are about right. Neither are all-time classics, but both are fine main event level matches. That curb stump/Styles clash counter was pretty slick.

Surprised there's nothing with Roman on the list, but there's very little you could credibly slip into a top ten. For a top 25, I can name at least a couple matches.

Beyond that, I have a handful of personal favourite matches from 205 Live or the weekly UK show, but I understand why they'd want more star power on their Network marathon show. It's fine for what it is.

Charlotte/Asuka 3/26 was probably my personal favorite WWE match of the year. That and the early Rey/Andrade series was good stuff. Glad to see Charlotte/Asuka get some love in the list above, but sad it's not recognized by WWE, or really any of their matches. I'd also throw some love to Charlotte/Trish as that feels like an already forgotten gem of a match.  I had forgot about Styles/Rollins MITB but mention of the finish reminded me that was memorable. I think #2 is way high for Sasha/Becky, but it was far and away Beckys best match so it deserves mention.

WWE.com went ahead and did the full Top 25 as well, top 10 is the same as listed above.

25. Roman Reigns & The Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre - No Holds Barred Match (Extreme Rules, 7/14/19)
24. Rey Mysterio vs. Cesaro (RAW, 5/13/19)
23. Braun Strowman vs. Bobby Lashley - Last Man Standing Match (Extreme Rules, 7/14/19)
22. Drew McIntyre vs. Cedric Alexander (RAW, 8/12/19)
21. Keith Lee vs. Dominik Dijakovic (NXT, 9/25/19)
20. Roman Reigns vs. Buddy Murphy (Smackdown, 8/13/19)
19. Velveteen Dream vs. Matt Riddle (NXT Takeover: New York, 4/5/19)
18. Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville vs. Nia Jax & Tamina vs. The IIconics vs. the Riott Squad vs. Carmella & Naomi - Elimination Chamber Match (Elimination Chamber, 2/17/19)
17. WALTER vs. Tyler Bate (NXT UK Takeover: Cardiff, 8/31/19)
16. Daniel Bryan & Erick Rowan vs. Heavy Machinery vs. New Day (Extreme Rules, 7/14/19)
15. Ricochet vs. Johnny Gargano (NXT Takeover: Phoenix, 1/26/19)

WWE's MOTY lists are more about putting over their biggest shows than the best matches. That's how you get Walter/Dunne from Mania weekend over Walter/Bate, or Bryan/Kofi as #1 when just off the top of my head, Bryan/KO/Ali from the month before was noticeably better, and neither match would be top 10 for me. The goal is to pretend the best matches happen on the biggest shows so more people will watch them. Any attempt to discern meaning beyond that or to discuss them seriously is a fool's errand.

Thanks for posting the expanded list. WALTER vs. Tyler Bate should be higher but we've gone through that. No Undisputed Era vs. The Revival on NXT TV, 13th November is a shameful snub. Same goes for the Women's WarGames match and the Gauntlet match involving the Elimination Chamber participants. Wasn't a fan of the Gargano/Cole series.
