2019 Ring Of Honor Thread

I just finished watching PCO vs. Taven, and must say it was pretty awful. You could hear a pin drop when Taven came out. That's really bad for your world champion. Marseglia and O'Ryan should never be near the main event. Both of them come off as so bush league, and Taven will never feel like a main event guy with them. He needs to be split from them if he's getting a long reign. Not having Brody King and Marty come out after the Kingdom did just makes VE look like idiots.

Speaking of bush league, Shane Taylor comes off extremely bush league. His gear isn't helping shake that notion at all. His look is awful. I can see why Gabe only wanted Keith Lee.  With Taven and Taylor, I guess ROH's strategy is to put titles on guys their competition wouldn't want. Presumably, the Briscoes beat the GoD for the tag belts, so at least one title won't feel worthless.

Cobb vs PCO seems like the perfect type of match for the Hammerstein.

Jesus if those 2 go at it in the Hammerstein (or anyplace else for that matter), I doubt the building will still be standing by the time they're done.

I'd be afraid of PCO diving from the balcony.

Yeah Brody not coming to help PCO was a not a good look for VE.

Well he was pinned in his match after two finishers so we could rationalize that he was in no condition to help. I don't know, I don't think that it matters that much.

Anyway, after last show it looks like we'll get Taven/PCO II?

It looks that way. I'm gonna watch last night's show after the Yankees game.

Yeah, god no. And also, watching Christopher Daniels fail time and time again against Xavier was fucking dumb. One guy was, at the time, one of the best workers in the world. The other guy was Xavier. It felt like that Xavier title reign lasted forever and he had wins over Low Ki, AJ Styles, and someone else who was the shit at the time.

Fuckin' Xavier. I'll take this Taven title reign over X's, although I hope Taven's reign is over with soon.

I did love Xavier's Fight Without Honor against John Walters at Final Battle 2003.

Xavier's reign is still better then Jerry Lynn's reign.

Trying to capitalize on The Wrestler didn't exactly work. That and Austin Aries second reign that was all about getting over the "Greatest Man That Ever Lived" character just delayed Tyler Black's reign to the point he was almost out the door when he finally got the belt. Black deciding to leave while he was still champion was a really bad look for ROH. The Adam Pearce era was a pretty bad time for ROH.

That's right around when I started following ROH regularly, but I think that was in part that after attending my first TV taping, they kept giving me free tickets to the next taping. It was like a never ending conga line of tickets.

I would have kept going for free tickets.

Weird timing by ROH to have Taylor win the TV title in the same week they have him dropping a clean pinfall loss to Bandido on RoH TV.

Also really weird to have Josh Woods come back, play up his MMA training then have him open his match with that most vaunted of MMA moves: a spear!

But all of that weirdness pales in comparison to Woods’ new catchphrase that he is DTF: Down to Fight! That’s worse than WWE naming a faction after a porn site a few years back. Just head-scratching that someone thought a DTF shirt was a great idea.  Also, the crowd is still not buying into Woods but by putting him u against the jobbiest of jobbers, they at least didn’t turn on him.

Taylor over Cobb is terrible booking, unless Cobb is taking the belt off of Taven in the next few months. Even then, the belt could have been put on someone more over than Taylor.

I actually quite like Taylor and he’s a guy worth getting behind cuz WWE isn’t going to want him and I think he’s got great presence and improving ring skills.    But while he’s been booked strong-ish lately (save for the Bandido loss...), ROH has gone the WWE route of having him beat low-carders on his run (Luchasaurus) while having him lose to the upper carders (Scurll, Cobb) so that when he won the title it felt more like a fluke than a culmination of something.

It feels like a thank you for being loyal more than something that will go anywhere. I would have left the title on Cobb and have him continue to dominate while building to a showdown with Matt Taven.

It's a shame about Woods.  I think he's pretty good based on seeing him in person two years ago against Severn.  I go for that style of match though.
