The last time I went to Baltimore, we stayed in a nice hotel around The Inner Harbor and Ubered anywhere we needed to go.  Driving in Baltimore is precarious for many reasons, but the complete disregard for traffic that all pedestrians in Baltimore seem to have has to be #1 on that list.  On top of that, no one wanted to be the designated driver so Uber was a wise choice.  Eventually, we decide to hit up Chap's Pit Beef, which is a go to anytime I'm in Baltimore, and call an Uber.  The ride between the hotel and Chap's was like a sightseeing tour for housing projects.  About halfway to Chap's we see a crowd gathering on a corner, and my hood instincts kick in and I'm 100% sure I'm about to see a dead body.  We finally get to the corner, and we see a pedestrian, pinned under a car.  I didn't see the accident, we were probably 2 minutes too late, but I'd bet all the money in my pocket that the poor man pinned under that car just randomly walked across the street and just assumed that traffic would stop.

This man is correct.  I live in Maryland about 20 minutes from B'more and you take your life into your own hands if you are a pedestrian and mother fuckers will run a stop light in the bat of an eyelash.

You should have seen how the BBC covered the 2012 Olympics. We had 12 Olympic channels*, plus coverage on regular BBC1 and BBC 2.

*Technically 24. HD and normal D.

IIRC, I could watch it then via Tunnelbear (which sadly the BBC now blocks).

As a Cleveland Indians fan, I was ready to give up my fandom when they said, "yeah our logo is racist as fuck, so instead of just removing it, we're going to phase it out."  Sports teams change uniforms and logos all the time, you don't have to phase that shit out you can just change it.

You should see the annual furor over the University of Illinois Illini logo here. The racists refuse to give up "The Chief" no matter what and make a stink about it every year. We even had a white guy coming out cosplaying as him and doing a tribal dance every year and when we got of him they were REALLY mad.

I would take driving in Baltimore over Philly or DC.

I could tell you DC driving stories all day.  I don't rember if it was the intersection of New York and Florida Ave's or New York and North Capital Street in North East but they are both kind of insane.  Whichever one it was, I once watched a man ride a bike through the intersection through cross traffic without ever touching the handlebars.  I don't know how he didn't get hit, but he made it all the way through to the other side.  It may very well be the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life.

That definitely cuts both ways, though.  The drivers in Baltimore are profoundly deranged and will run a light that's redder than fake blood in a Giallo film.  I had one fucking asshole in a truck almost take my foot off by doing just that, and as he sped by, clearly not giving a fuck that I had the Walk signal, his girlfriend or whoever was in the passenger seat saw me and laughed, like *that's* the natural reaction to almost hitting someone with 3000 pounds of fiberglass and steel weaponry.

So I punched his tailgate as I crossed the street behind him.  Every other person who saw the exchange sounded out a chorus of "Oh Shit!"s and I just kept walking, never looked back even as I heard the guy park his truck and get out.

And that's the story of the time I probably should've been shot in broad daylight, and somehow wasn't.

Aren't vocal racists normally mad about something?

Hanna, a television series based on the 2011 movie of the same name, will debut on Amazon Prime this coming March.

Remember when you were angry because material that would probably be better as a miniseries got crammed into a feature length movie?

Now it appears that content that was perfectly fine in feature length movie form is getting stretched out into miniseries format.

The problem with this is the implication Hanna was a perfectly fine film.

I love it that they are phasing out gay jokes as if it is impossible to immediately make an episode that is 100% gay joke free.

I haven't watched in years, but with Stewie's character direction, that's a main source of the gay jokes. . .

I've been on a UK Comedy kick after falling in love with Derry Girls. I was tipped off to two great ones.

PEOPLE JUST DO NOTHING. This is a mockumentary about a crew of idiots who live in a Brentford housing estate and have a pirate radio show dedicated to garage, an outdated form of dance music. It's really brilliant in just the low-level sleaze of some of the characters that is combined with the fake tough-guy routines of a few others. I have never been to England. But I did hang out with some dipshits when I was in high school and in college and they are so true to these characters. Apparently, it's based off of a documentary about the pirate radio community of British public housing. They're also making a US version here based off of the shenanigans of Vegas EDM idiots. A+. Netflix.

THIS COUNTRY. I am just starting this now. It won some major UK TV awards this year. It's another mockumentary. In this one, a camera crew follows along "typical young people" who are in a disaffected rural part of the country. It's a pair of cousins (played by real life siblings) who have nothing to do in a town with nothing going for it. The main woman lead thinks she's tough as hell and has compared her rivalry with another local tough to Kane vs. Undertaker and how they're both "The Brothers of Destruction." I am 1.5 episodes into this and it is also an A+.

BORDERLINE. Another Office-style show, but this one is about the UK equivalent of TSA agents in a smaller area. Loved the first episode. My wife said it was the funniest episode of TV she has seen in years.

I also heard great things about The Detectorists but it isn't on Netflix anymore. :(

A lot of what you guys are saying about Baltimore sounds like Detroit.

There's a very nice, totally revitalized downtown stadium district with fantastic restaurants, bars, (obviously) the stadiums and arena, hotels, casinos, etc.

Go one block too far and it's crumbling, dirty, and quite possibly dangerous. Go a few more blocks, and it's either scary as fuck or looks bombed out, depending on which way you went.

I'm a YouTube TV subscriber and I'll probably remain one since I'm grandfathered in at the $35/month price. I wonder if that counts as a TV subscription for this NBC streaming service.

On the one hand, I thought it wasn't good, but it wasn't horrible either.

On the other hand, it was also largely forgettable.

At least it did not commit the crime of having an unsatisfying ending.  The people who deserved to get their brans blow out, got their brains blown out.  That's the most you can hope for sometimes.

I thought Hanna ruled and would gladly watch more stories in the Hanna Expanded Universe.

I've been watching Schitt's Creek and while I enjoy it I feel like Catherine O'Hara and the Levy's performances are carrying water for some just OK writing.

My uncle had just got married to my aunt, and went to visit some of her family in Detroit.  They decided to take my uncle and aunt to a house party.  Upon arrival, they get out and my uncle and aunt started walking towards the house, before one of my aunt's cousin called them to the back of the car.  Assuming they were going to get some alcohol or something my uncle and aunt go to the back and realize that her cousin is passing out guns.  They took my uncle and aunt to a party that they didn't feel comfortable entering unless everyone in their party had a gun.  That's my favorite Detroit story.

What Fowler said about Detroit is true. The area around Ford Field, Comerica, Hockeytown, etc. is fine. Then you have Greektown and the area around the casino, which is also good. You venture away from those areas though? Nope.

Detroit gets a bad rap.  The bad parts of Detroit are as bad as anywhere in the country, but there is much more nice stuff in Detroit than anyone gives it credit for.  It is not Gary, Indiana...that is the worst city I think I've ever been in, and that is saying kind of a lot.

My one trip to downtown  Detroit was in 92 or 93 to see the Jr Wings at Joe Louis. I remember being quite nervous driving around after the game, even though nothing happened. But I feel that way driving in most of the East Coast metropolises. Oddly, I didnt feel that way driving in LA or South Florida.

I've driven to Chicago more times than I can count and so you always have to drive through Gary, but you're also on the toll road so it doesn't matter. This one time though, I went on a bus trip to a Cubs game and for whatever reason we had to stop in Gary. I can't remember why we had to stop because there was lots of drinking that day and you could drink on the bus, but I do remember wanting to get out of where we were as fast as possible and I never want to go back.

Oh yeah, one other thing about Detroit, the highway that goes around the car plants is legit frightening. It's super high up and people drive like maniacs. I'm someone who actually likes driving through Chicago and doesn't mind the Dan Ryan or Kennedy expressways, but that highway in Detroit is something I don't want to drive on again.

I know DirecTV NOW counts as a TV subscription, as I have all the channel's apps and HBO GO (Honestly, that's why I picked DTVN when I cord cut, I don't lose the Disney/Nick/HBO app logins that I do with the other services)
