The world has just become a bit less funky and cool, Mac Rebbenack was New Orleans. We will not see his like again anytime soon. I count myself fortunate that I was able to see him tickle the ivories live many years ago at a small club. He was in town to play a big show and just happened to stop in a joint called Jazz Alley and did an impromptu set of half a dozen tunes and left. The forty or fifty of us in the club were just blown away. Saw him live twice, including at the New Orleans House of Blues, which was very cool. RIP
Curt McGirt Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Never really listened to him aside from knowing he was a legend; he was awesome on Treme. RIP Speaking of which, anywhere I should start with him?

RIP Speaking of which, anywhere I should start with him? Start with Gris-Gris and follow the voodoo straight to hell. My great regret is that Dr. John and Mr. Quintron never teamed up to record anything, it would have been epic New Orleans. 1
Curt McGirt Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Thanx, I went ahead and snagged Gris-Gris. You know, this is yet another example of that morbid old adage "they always go in threes"...
OSJ Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Marty Balin the founder of Jefferson Airplane has passed. RIP
Johnny Sorrow Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Jeff Austin, one of the founders and mandolin player for Yonder Mountain String Band passed away . It's a tough one, he was from the little mountain town here in Colorado that I lived in for awhile.

colonial Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 His family announced that Eddie Money passed away today at 70. 3
Burgundy LaRue Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Eddie Money is a singer/musician who quietly finds his way unto your favorites list with several of his songs. RIP. 3
Cliff Hanger Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 "Right Here", Money's last point of top-40 relevance, came out when I was a very sappy 13 year old listening to the adutl contemporary station and watching a fuck ton of VH1, and I loved it. I outgrew that record pretty quick, but found his real classics as I got older and started to dig into 70s and 80s rock. Also one of the less-lame people with whom I share a birthday. 2
odessasteps Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 (edited) RIP Ric Ocasek age 75. And the World Class music video set to "you might think" Edited September 16, 2019 by odessasteps 5
J.H. Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 The world is just a little less cool without Ric Ocasek James 2
J.T. Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 (edited) This one hurts as The Cars were a part of the soundtrack of my adolescence. I'm just happy he lived to see himself and his band inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame before his passing since Ben Orr did not. RIP, Ric, and yes, the world feels a little less cool today. Curt McGirt Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 I still would like to know how and why he made the decision to tape-speed Bad Brains' Rock for Light in the studio. It makes no sense whatsoever.
