Teflon Turtle Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 (edited) supremebve wrote it best, I'm not gonna repeat any of that. But imagine being such an icon that over 180,000 people show up somewhere, just to see you be you in your element. This wasn't a festival; it was people coming just to see Tina Turner. Mister TV Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 I don't think any Unplugged even comes close to his. 3

I mistakenly thought Tony Bennett sang it, so I ended up listening to 5-10 Tony Bennett songs trying to find it. It's probably the most Tony Bennett I've ever listened to, and then I wake up to hear he died. Tony Bennett was a great performer who had an even more incredible career. RIP to a legend.
Teflon Turtle Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 (edited) Tony Bennett is - as far as I know, anyway - my dad's favorite singer. I sent him a text yesterday morning to ask if he'd heard the news. He replied that he had, and also wrote back "there is sadness in the kingdom." One of my favorite radio stations led off their morning show with this yesterday. Edited July 22, 2023 by Teflon Turtle 1
odessasteps Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Irish Twitter is saying Sinead O'Connor passed away at age 56. 3

JLowe Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Remember this song well, partially because I love MC Lyte. This was before she blew up with Nothing Compares 2 U (which happened when I was in college and was MASSIVE on our radio station there, even with people who normally wouldn't have played "college" music). 3
JLowe Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I forgot about this one, Sinead and Shane MacGowan doing an old Pogues song. 1

Just read about this. I only got into her (early) material this year. This sucks! The Lion and The Cobra is an amazing album from the word go, but nothing will ever beat "Troy" or "A Drink before the War" 3
J.T. Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 (edited) RIP Sinead. I was watching the night she went batshit on SNL. It was totally great. We should all be so bold and unapologetic. People so close to me in age passing away is more than a bit concerning. Edited July 26, 2023 by J.T. 4
hammerva Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 As part of the service, most of the music industry and entertainment in 1992 should have to publicly apologize to her while walking to the casket. As shocking to the system it was, she not only completely right but miles ahead of it. And instead she was almost blacklisted completely. 2
Greggulator Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Sinead had so many bangers. She was one of the most gifted musicians of her time. 3
JLSigman Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 This was a huge reason that I got into Elton John's back catalog at a time when I had written him off as a pop disaster (look, I was a dumb high school kid). She absolutely nailed this. 1

supremebve Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 So, nobody is going to post "THE" video? Seriously, I can't think of another music video that matched song and visual better. Sinead O'Connor was a lot of things, a lot of them memorable, but I'm not going to remember any of them more than this video. 1
colonial Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Randy Meisner Dies: Eagles Founding Guitarist Was 77 – Deadline Frontman on "Take It to the Limit," which he wrote. I recall reading he had a host of mental and physical health issues in his later years. Also performed with Ricky Nelson's Stone Canyon Band and Poco.
Dolfan in NYC Posted July 28, 2023 Author Posted July 28, 2023 If you had Joe Walsh in your Final Four of the Eagles tontine, raise your hand. (Now put it down, you liar.)
Curt McGirt Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 He did a week stint on Colbert and the old drunk looked hale and hearty.
Contentious C Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 And Robbie Robertson now, too. Hasn't been a good year for musicians.
