Guest Edwin Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 Boca press conference requesting CONMEBOL reorganizes the game on a neutral pitch and fines River for yesterdays mess.
Guest Edwin Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 A meeting with club presidents is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM where they will try and reschedule the game for a later. Edit: Rumors in Argentina is the game is expected to be rescheduled for December 8. Edit 2.0: Also, whoever wins needs to head to UAE for the Club World Cup on December 12... What a mess this continues to turn into.
odessasteps Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 I said earlier they should just send the reigning champion, which is Gremio.

Call me a cynic but it seem like Boca is trying to take advantage of the situation to gain an advantage. Play the match at the River stadium behind closed doors and prevent anyone from getting anywhere near the stadium. Problem solved

Play the match at the River stadium behind closed doors and prevent anyone from getting anywhere near the stadium. Problem solved How so? Their bus got attacked with pepper spray and rocks. Players were mentally broken/traumatized and physically harmed. Namely Pablo Perez who had his eye cut from the glass and has 60% vision at the moment as he basically has an eye bandaged up. Carlos Tevez was vomiting from the pepper spray and other plays had to be helped on their way to the locker room. There's a video of the fans in the stadium stampeding through the hallways and even the River president had to seek coverage so he wouldn't get run over. There's a video of a mother strapping flares onto a child's body to sneak them into the stadium. These same fans destroyed the stadium and attacked players when the club got relegated to second division. Security won't be able to hold back an enormous multitude of fans if they find out the date and time when the game is being played behind doors.

Given their semi final elimination was controversial, this would somewhat make sense, but I don't see that happening. Boca winning the Libertadores and handing Real Madrid another defeat and winning the entire thing would make for an amazing story.
sabremike Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 As a Metro, Sabres, Whalers, Mets, Ticats, Bengals and Knicks fan my entire sports fandom has been almost nothing but pain and soulcrushing misery with painful moment after painful moment. Tonight may have been the absolute worst. This is pure hell.
Guest Edwin Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 If CONMEBOL and the clubs can't reach an agreement to play the final at the Monumental, they would be looking at possibly playing in UAE so the winners can stay there for the CWC. Also, the Boca players were treated with prohibited substances by the CONMEBOL doctors and they feat they could pop if they are tested. What a mess. Just makes me root for them even more.
odessasteps Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Today’s Independent Football pod has a segment with a bunch of the writers at the Copa Libertadores, including Jonathan Wilson, Rory Smith and Miguel Delaney.
AxB Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Speaking of Football things called Villa, Aston Villa vs Nottingham Forest was a bit mad. 0-1, 0-2, 1-2, 2-2, 2-3, 3-3, 4-3, 4-4, 5-4, 5-5. 1
Dolfan in NYC Posted November 29, 2018 Author Posted November 29, 2018 Columbus HC Gregg Berhalter will be named the new head coach of the USMNT.
Guest Edwin Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 A new twist for the Libertadores final -- now there's talk it could be played in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.
sabremike Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Dear God: Please just give me the biggest fucking miracle in the history of soccer tonight at RBA.
sabremike Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Conflict of interest time! Salzburg has run away with their Europa League group. Their last game is at Celtic, who are second in the group by 3 points over the 3rd place team. Usually this would mean Salzburg would send a weak squad to Glasgow. But there's an interesting wrinkle here: the 3rd place team is Leipzig, and if they win and Celtic lose they will advance. This is a situation that will be very interesting to keep an eye on.
Death From Above Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Ah yes, discouraging insane mob crowd behaviour by *checks notes* finding the way to absolutely maximize profits.
Dolfan in NYC Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 Portland(?!) wins the West with a goal to seal it in the 98'(!!). They get Atlanta in the MLS Cup.
sabremike Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Chris Armas you suck. Brilliant of him to completely abandon the press that gave Atlanta fits and they couldn't handle in that first leg. And the guy we stupidly fired as our youth coach to hire a guy who lied on his fucking resume taking his team to the final is even better.

Given how many of my Portland comics pals are Timbers fans, I guess that is who I'm supporting in the final.
Guest Edwin Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Dani Alves goes in hard on the Libertadores final being played out of South America -- pretty much says it's shame and backs up this tweet previously sent by Andrés Nocioni last week: Translation of Nocioni's tweet: Quote What a shame!!! The world is watching the decay of a society without education or morals! Suspend this game now! We are not prepared for such an event! I apologize to those who are watching this embarrassment!
Guest Edwin Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 There's talks David Villa is on his way to Japan to play alongside Andres Iniesta at Vissel Kobe.
