I say no. His years as not-a-catcher simply weren't impressive and there weren't enough years at catcher to override that. But, for 900 games, he was arguably a top 5 all-time catcher.

Of course, we're going to agree on this...  For 900 games he was the second coming of Mickey Cochrane, but that's just not enough.

Another for the "Mike Rizzo vs. Lerner Family" file

Rizzo had agreed to a deal with the Stros this past July that would send Bryce Harper to Houston (the Nats would have gotten three unnamed prospects)

Nats ownership vetoed the deal

According to a good friend who would know you could plug in Garth Snow and Scott Malkin there and it was exactly the same scenario.

It appears that the first "name" free agent to switch teams this offseason (quotes being used very liberally here) - is Jeff Mathis is signing with the Rangers

Appears to be a 2 year deal that will be more than the 4 million he made in Arizona

Yanks are getting James Paxton

Quote

The Yankees have struck a deal to acquire lefty James Paxton from the Mariners, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link). Top pitching prospect Justus Sheffield is coming to Seattle in return, per Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times (Twitter link). Completing the return are outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams and righty Erik Swanson, per Corey Brock of The Athletic (via Twitter).

Neither was in BA's Top 30 prospects for the Yanks last year. Though Thompson-Williams probably would have been this year.

Thompson-Williams had a huge year last year as he pretty much was the best bat in the entire Yankee system. That being said - it was still all in A ball

It appears he has some power and some speed. He can play center better than average

Swanson is a country boy SP who was originally was drafted by the Rangers. I legit have no memory of how he got to the Yanks.

He was shitty in 17 but better last year. Was split last year between AA and AAA. Was unhittable in AA. Was more hittable in AAA

If he threw left handed - I dont think the Yanks would have been so quick to move him

Swanson was in the Carlos Beltran deal to the Rangers in 2016.

This probably belongs in the MLB Stupidity thread. Mods, feel free to  move as necessary.

MLB and Rob Manfred might have made a boo boo by giving a $5,000 donation to a Mississippi Senate candidate who has said and done some controversial things.

Somebody noticed, now MLB is trying to backtrack.

Joe Frisaro (Marlins beat writer) seems to think this takes Atlanta out of the Realmuto sweepstakes.  But then again, he's very dumb.

All those years studying journalism and you wind up as the beat writer for the Marlins? You're breaking your father's heart...
