Hamhock
The Athletics have released info and renderings of their proposed ballpark in the Howard Terminal area of Oakland, as well as proposed redevelopment of the existing Coliseum site:
grilledcheese
Real nice looking fake photos. Now comes a 12 month environmental study, and if all goes well there, the beginning of negotiations with the Port of Oakland to buy or lease the space. Fuck all the dumb shit, wait for the Warriors and Raiders to leave next year, blow up the existing yard and build a nice new joint on a big ass piece of land that you already sit on. Freeway access, Amtrak stops at ground level at the Coliseum already, BART has the pedestrian bridge to the parking lots, and then there is the AC Transit hub. The Coliseum is accessible as fuck in a way that Howard Terminal likely never will be. BART already told them to fuck off when it comes to a station at Howard Terminal because it would necessitate a shutdown of one of the busiest spurs in the system because of its proximity to the Transbay Tube and the Oakland Wye. The Jack London Amtrak isn't all that far away from the Howard terminal location, but why bother? Stay in the same place you've been for the entirety of your lives in Oakland. Bulldoze the Arena and build this proposed park right there. The Arena is worthless anyway. It isn't going to get the same kind of shows that it does once the Warriors new joint is open. Look at the spot here in Sacramento. The Kings new place opened, and the Arco Arena is sitting unused, and the last thing in it you needed to buy a ticket for was in September of 2016. Every show that would have been at Arco is now at Golden 1, same thing is going to happen in Oakland.

That's right, it's pork roll. Fuck North Jersey and "Taylor Ham". I'm surprised by this. I wouldn't expect the Wilpon's to want to go anywhere near Cano's contract. The Yankees wanted Seattle to pay half of Cano's contract AND take Ellsbury and his two 2 yrs/47 mil remaining.

The Man Known as Dan
... Figuring the main reason they are doing this trade is to get Diaz, who is one of the best closers in baseball, you might be overeacting a bit. Actually scratch that, cause this is a move a team makes when they think they are a contender, or close to it, and I don't buy thay of the Mets.

The problem is that when you are always losing games because you can't score more than a run or two a great closer has very little value.

Dolfan in NYC
The deal appears to be done. Seattle trades Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the New York (NL) for Jay Bruce, Anthony Swarzak, and "at least 2 top prospects" per Passan. Mamma mia. If Seattle doesn't eat at least 80% of Cano's contract, Bernie Madoff will only be the 2nd biggest robber of the Wilpon's money. 2

When your team has a barren farm system the smart thing to do is to trade your top prospects for a horrible contract that will be a disaster in a season or two when Cano breaks down and a luxury item.

Exactly why Seattle is trading Diaz I suppose the Mets are going to hide Cano at first when he really starts to break down.

RIPPA
The trade as proposed would mean the Mets would be taking on basically $86 million in salary so yeah Seattle is definitely sending them money
odessasteps
I heard Seattle would be paying 50% of Cano’s remaining salary.
RIPPA
Meanwhile - in the crippled pitchers getting deals department Garrett Richards signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Padres. He is recovering from his second TJ surgery and is not expected to pitch in 2019. Edinson Volquez signed a 1 year, $2 million (can earn up to 5 million in bonuses) with the Rangers. He had been on a minor league deal with Texas as he too recovered from TJ
RIPPA
So apparently the Mariners are going to pay the Mets SIXTY (That's 60) million dollars as part of the trade If true - that means New York would only be responsible for $26 million of Cano's remaining deal (BTW - Cano has 5 years left, $24 million each year.) So technically the Mets have a guy that they are only paying $5.1 million for each year
Dolfan in NYC
All I can think of is the David Justice scene in Moneyball where Billy Beane has to explain to him that there are teams actively paying him not to play for them. (Coincidentally, it was the Mets that traded him to Oakland.)
