I don't like calling someone out.  I have never stepped in a ring nor have been punched low but if his balls are where Crawford punched him then he has some anatomical issues

As far as I can tell, just from watching boxing for awhile, it seems like just being hit in the groin with the protector/cup on sucks period. Plus, you're dealing with folks who know to how to punch which doesn't make it any better. The punch was pretty egregious whether it was a direct blow or not. Is it a punch you quit over?  Again, it feels like I seen this happen at least two or three times before where the guy who got low blowed and ruled unable to continue lost by TKO. I think they were all Friday Night Fights/ShoBox level fights though. Anyway, those blows IIRC were undeniably fouls and looked painful. With that said, I could make argument for those fights being technical decisions if 4 rounds were completed. I wouldn't necessarily say those guys were pussies just because they may have milked it and overacted a bit (in one case, one guy was on the canvas in pain and then popped back up when the call was made ruling it a TKO). And I'm the same guy who believes Anthony Smith did the commendable thing against Jon Jones back in March. The context is important. Maybe I'm spoiled from watching people like Herb Dean and Dan Miragliotta handle situations like that a little bit better in MMA, but that whole thing was strange as fuck. If Virgil Hunter wanted to stop the fight, there were plenty of opportunities before hand. That's one thing. Second, why was it so immediate that the referee and doctor/physician make sure Khan was able to continue? If this was an eye injury or something like that caused by a foul where he was in danger of being permanently damaged, I would definitely understand. However, he got hit high on the groin. You don't need to check on him every 10 or 15 seconds. If he has five minutes or whatever the allotted time is in New York, go with that and proceed from there. Also, if you feel Khan was taking that severe a beating, you had multiple chances to stop the fight. So in my mind, it's not whether Khan wanted out or not. It's making boxing feel like it's tennis or golf where you can just end bouts out of the blue especially when there are plenty of chances to reach a logical conclusion beforehand. Gvodzyk/Ngumbu was strange, but Gvodzyk wasn't beating Ngumbu anywhere close to what Crawford was doing to Khan. So if a guy has a random injury before any real action happens, it is what it is. With Crawford vs. Khan and people saying Khan wanted an out....you know what would have been a more sensical out? The referee interceding on Khan's behalf after he has been stunned by a third or fourth unanswered punch. That's an out.  High level world title fights shouldn't end like what happened last Saturday. This ain't a six rounder in a casino ballroom jerking the curtain. End it when it makes sense or let the shit play out.

I was watching the fight too and also thought the referee was doing an absolutely terrible job handling the incident. I think Elsa is actually underselling it when he says Miragliotta/Dean would handle similar situations a 'little better'.

Typically, a low blow will be followed by - 'take as much time as you need, you've got five minutes'.

In the Khan fight, like he mentioned above, it was just constant pestering and I don't recall him every stating that Amir had the full five minutes to recover. Even before the stoppage I was getting annoyed by the ref. When it actually did stop I just switched it off in annoyance without seeing what the actual ruling was.

Ref might have been pestering him but obviously the ref was hearing Khan's trainer wanting to stop the fight.  A better ref would have made things clearer for lack of a better word.  Khan was looking for a way out earlier in his corner, this provided it without another KO or violent stoppage on his resume and we were spared potentially 6 more rounds of a fight that wasn't a great matchup to begin with.  Then we got the old man Bob Arum rant after the fight.  Poor Crawford there is literally nothing for him right now remotely intriguing

Gennady Golovkin has just announced he will no longer be training with Abel Sanchez. Joe Joyce only left Sanchez a few days ago. Joyce was only with Sanchez for a handful of fights, but Sanchez brought Golovkin to a whole different level.

Apparently, the split is less than amicable (at least on the Sanchez). According to Abel, despite Golovkin's potentially 100 million dollar with DAZN, Golovkin's team wanted him to be paid less and gave Sanchez a new training schedule.

As for the search for Big Baby's replacement, the current leading candidates are Michael Hunter (who is really the only viable American heavyweight in Hearn's stable at the moment) and PBC fighter and former title challenger Andy Ruiz who just made his PBC debut this past Saturday stopping Alexander Dimitrenko.

The Twitterverse is all yelling for Luis Ortiz to be the replacement and calling Joshua a chicken. Thought Wilder stopping his ass would have calmed those trolls down.

To be fair to Ortiz, there wasn't much happening until Ortiz hurt Wilder. Then, Wilder turned the tables before stopping Ortiz. Since then, Ortiz has been dominant against limited opposition admittedly. So I don't think his stock was hurt losing to Wilder as much as it gave some credence that he has a puncher's chance at worst against most top heavyweights.

I'd like him to fight something resembling a contender before he gets another crack.  I got the Easter - Barthelemy fight saved on my PVR.  Do I dare waste the 36 minutes of my life

Supposedly, both Ortiz and Kownacki were promised title shots against Wilder already and I don't think that involves fighting each other. If the early Wilder-Joshua can happen is early fall 2020, yeah, they don't really have to do a title eliminator.

As for Easter-Barthelemy, it was only entertaining in spots and by the end the commentators are burying the fight. The Postol fight before that was not much better tbh.

You know when you aren't a southpaw and you keep fighting in that stance despite not being that effective you deserve to lose. This isn't an 8 rounder against a jabroni.  Fight was closer than I had it.  Canelos defense first half of the fight was on point

In the middle rounds, Jacobs should have fought more than 10 to 15 seconds at a clip. He could have actually won the fight on the judges scorecards. Canelo had great head movement but he was missing a lot or just barely grazing Jacobs. It was a decent but strange fight to me because Canelo could have been far more busier because it's not like Jacobs was that busy himself. Take the 11th round for example. Sergio had Jacobs winning that round and I believe Mannix  might have as well, but Canelo was picking off Jacobs so much with his jab and quick, short right hands. Maybe it was because Jacobs started to open more, but Canelo didn't have to play the counter shot game. Jacobs was just throwing punches to look busy to the judges. Nothing was landing really. However, before Jacobs turned back southpaw again, he was actually backing Canelo up, wasn't as wasteful with power shots, and wasn't just pawing away with a weak jab. Rozier should lit a fire under his ass around round 4 or round 5. It's not like Canelo was lighting him up and strafing him with anything. He was just trying to go to the body and bob & weave.

The DAZN commentary crew is absolutely cringeworthy.

My only issue was Brian Kenny was automatically giving Canelo every round which makes Mannix obsolete if Kenny has his own unofficial scorecard as well.

The problem with DAZN broadcasts much like the earlier PBC ones when they had the time buys is there is too much going on. Maybe it's because HBO was kinda minimalist in comparison and the aim now is clearly to be more traditional sports oriented, but what's wrong with the narrative being told in the ring by the boxers?

Sidenote: Apparently, people tried to sign up for DAZN at the last minute before the fight last night and it went about as well as you would expect.

Well if you try to sign up at the last possible second you get what you get.  Kind of like the time I tried to call and order NFL Sunday ticket at 12 on opening weekend years ago and wondered why I couldn't get through.  The Box Nation crew was funny last night dumping on the fact that the arena was basically empty for the Artur Beterbiev main event.

I thought I was the only who noticed the Stockton Arena being empty. I dunno why they didn't do the Flores Jr. fight AFTER the two title fights. What did they (meaning Top Rank) expect to happen? The local guy fought and they got the fuck outta there to dodge traffic.

It's kinda sad that between Gvozdyk and Beterbiev (you could add Bivol as well), you could only fill up half a mid sized college basketball arena at best stateside. They were trying their best to drum up interest in the light heavyweight division before the fight only for Beterbiev to turn in a sloppy performance against a solid-but-still fringe contender. For five years, they tried to blame Adonis for the division sucking ass. Now, they don't have that excuse anymore. It still sucks and none of these dudes have any interest in fighting each other. Even if they did, it would only sell out the Hulu Theater at MSG. That's no small feat but we're talking about the biggest fights for an entire division.
