Based on the clips and stills I'd seen of Trailer Park Boys I always thought it looked stupid (for some reason I was under the impression it was a spinoff of Jackass?) and never bothered with it, plus most of the people I knew who were fans had pretty questionable tastes. Last week I finally decided to give it and am glad to be mistaken as this show is really funny. I'm halfway through season 3 now, does it stay solid for the duration?

It's pretty great throughout. Haven't watched the last season and like any show that has been on that long there are some dips (I personally find season 10 pretty bad), but it is amazing how they've managed to keep up the quality. The schemes are always fun (the train smuggling is still my favourite) and the ebb and flow and changing of dynamics between all the characters is really the most interesting part.

I didn't get into it until after it had been on for a few years. There was a period after it started airing that it seemed like everyone in Canada was obsessed with it and I had to be contrarian. I also figured it would just be stoner humour, which I can only usually tolerate in small doses.

BARRY and SUCCESSION both took a few episodes to find their groove, but both were phenomenal by the end.

I was about to say, if someone gave up on either series after just a couple episodes then damn, they missed out. Succession is a weird one in that the first episode doesn't even do a good job of representing the entire series. It almost feels like the creative pivoted after that pilot.

In the case of Barry, holy shit, still the best new series I've seen in a long time. Every episode of Barry builds and builds and builds until you get to those last 2 or 3 episodes when it becomes apparent that this isn't just any comedy and it's something way more than that. It would be like giving up on a good book because the first couple chapters are just setup. With Barry, it's so incredibly rewarding to keep watching and some of the more dramatic beats later on left my jaw on the floor. You just don't see it coming.

I need to check out Succession.  Barry was great.  I just finally finished up all three seasons of Billions, watching the last couple of episodes last week.  I'm behind on so much stuff, I can't even remember what Netflix Marvel show I watched last--I need to figure that out so I catch up on all of those.  The wife and I were able to watch both seasons of Ozark and Sneaky Pete recently after binging all of Bosch.  But with network stuff starting back up this week it will be awhile before we can hit anything on a streaming service together.

Watched a few of the new pilots last night.

Magnum PI was..... there.  I might check it out once or twice more but, at the moment, no desire to see more.  Pilot was very by the numbers.  None of the characters was fleshed out beyond "war buddies" and most of the actors lack screen presence.  I was pleasantly surprised the character death was wrapped up by episode's end and didn't play into some larger conspiracy.

FBI was somewhat interesting and the cast seems good, but.... I fell asleep ten minutes before the end credits and didn't care enough to go back and rewatch the last ten minutes.  Has some potential but the pilot didn't really grab me.

Hoping to like New Amsterdam, but the pilot wasn't that sharp.  Seems like a good vehicle for Ryan Eggold, but the show needs punched up.

I liked a Million Little Things but didn't love it.  Has potential.  I'm hoping the suicide that kicks off the show doesn't end up being some huge event.  It seems like it would be more fitting if they never figure out why he did it.

Always Sunny just had their best episode in years. I'd say this was a classic and every character was on fire in it. This season's off to a better start than 11 or 12 so far.

I was just coming in here to post exactly this - that was an incredible episode.  Dennis Time's Upping the rest of the gang had me dying.

South Park was as good as ever. They're continuing with that hashtag thing as it was on the end of the episode so who knows what's up with that.

And I think I have pinpointed the exact moment they should have killed off Sons of Anarchy! It is

Spoiler

immediately at the end of "NS" when Stahl and Jimmy O have met their timely demises. After that they should have just done us a solid, made a TV movie killing off half the cast, and called it a day. Those who continue to watch afterwards (as I shall -- nothing else to do at 1 AM) will note that the second and most permanent death-knell moment is them killing off Opie, which is the smell of the animal cadaver under the porch finally being identified.

Was season 10 the season that Barb was the main antagonist? That season sucked.

I have not seen the most recent season yet, but the show is not as good as it used to be, but it's still good.

A question about that episode of SOA, btw:

Spoiler

How Jimmy O was killed, can you really kill somebody by stabbing them like that? I mean I'm sure blood loss would work, but is stabbing somebody in the collarbones hitting main arteries? It looked cool and he twisted the knives and all but it seems kind of anti-climactic, so to speak.

My experience with Killing Eve.

I dig quirky BBC shows like Orphan Black, Luther, and Sherlock, so Killing Eve wasn't hard for me to like once I accepted the fact that Sandra Oh pretty much plays her Grey's Anatomy role everywhere she goes and fell in love with Jodie Cormer.

Don't read the Codename:  Villanelle novels that the series is based on.  They are pretty blah.

He might have been stabbed right underneath the collarbones, but your jugular vein is right around that area too.

This Mr. Inbetween show on FX is pretty good. Australian show about an unassuming looking bloke who happens to be a collector of sorts. As in a "pay me or else" collector. I say unassuming but the bald head, Luciferian facial hair, and Willem Dafoe-esque grin (only with better teeth) can be sinister... which is underlined in the second episode, which has him shooting and burying a guy in a shallow grave. The guy doesn't seem bad, though -- he even helps a buddy out who's wife has found a porno he was hiding and threatened to leave him, by coming over and saying it's his DVD. Swell to do that for a mate. This is gonna be one of those "slice of bizarre life" shows that is really deadpan in its humor and as a result I will probably love it.

EDIT: I can move this to the "not from the States" show thread if necessary

This was not Dennis's first rodeo. We also finally got confirmation that Uncle Jack is the NIghtman and Dee did bang Charlie in that one episode. Charlie saying it was not consensual to save face.

There are so many stupid people

To be fair, in my area we had a weather man who LOVED jumping the gun on Tornado Warnings. In fact all three channels were bad about it. They got better after the 2011 Tornadoes. Had a final act of the Boy Who Cried Wolf vibe.

Binged all of Counterpart over the course of 3 or 4 days. Fucking phenomenal. I wish there would have been more dickhead Whiplash J.K. Simmons, but I loved the story that played out with each person trying to resist becoming more like the other while also giving in more and more. All of the political intrigue was great too.

Man, it's hard not to give away any Fringe spoilers (another series I love for how crazy it got), but Counterpart feels like it exists in those later seasons of Fringe.

One aspect of the season that surprised me was that while they spoke a lot about the spy games that occur on both sides, it doesn't really feel much like one side is trying to wipe out the other. Maybe they'll get there and I'm debating internally whether or not I want that or want more of what the show is already bringing to the table.

Anyway, it was a fantastic first season and I want more of it.
