AJ Styles returns to ROH on Jan 4 to face Roderick Strong

Love the use of the Impact Wrestling color scheme, and 1/4/14 now being a big date for ROH after TNA did oh so much on 1/4/10. At least this will likely build up one or two future ROH guys using AJ, unless it's a regular gig.

He looks like a porno star now.

Hold up... Hero isn't using a cravat base offense anymore? I know he's elbow happy, but I though he had atleast a 2 cravat per match policy.

He stopped w/ the cravats when he dropped the goofy, fun stuff like knee walking and cartwheels mid-match and became That Young Knockout Kid.

I understand why he stopped it, but goofy 15-different-variations-of-cravates Chris Hero was so much fun to me.

I loved goofy Chris Hero. I never cared much for That Young Knock Out Kid.

I know a lot of people liked him during this, but I thought Captain Elbowsmash Chris Hero was kinda stupid. I always thought the elbows looked kinda "fakey" compared to a well-delivered punch.

The ghost of Misawa says no.

Goofy Chris Hero just doing a bunch of shit to show off was perfect for a company that takes itself way too serious.  Then he went and became a guy who hits hard in a company already full of guys who hit hard.

Exactly. I know the thought process was that for Hero to be considered a "legit" main eventer, he couldn't be a "comedy character". But the thing is, Hero had been such a huge name on the indy's for so long and ROH fans had been clamoring for him to be in the promotion since pretty much its inception, that Hero could be a silly in-ring performer and still be taken seriously by the audience. At least it was different and made him stand out. That's the best way to get over.

Hero in his 'greatest athlete' phase with Larry Sweeney as his mouth piece absolutely should have won the ROH title. Really one of the most overall entertaining acts that company has ever had, and one of the few that actually got heel heat in ROH because they hated his stalling and comedy like it was a personal affront to the audience.

I'm watching the Summer of Punk right now and despite the shows being incredible, it seems weird that people weren't expecting Punk to become a star even in the WWE climate of 2005. I know that things had to change a lot for him to get to where he was but the segment where he attacks Gibson with the chain at Fate of an Angel is tremendous. A great dickish promo to begin with, chicken shits out as Gibson comes to fight him, sneaks back in with a chain when his back is turned. And then you have him walking around ringside. "Hey, Bobby Cruise, you wanna fight the champ? I don't even know who the hell you are!"

What a great company this was from 05 to 07, man, damn.

I'm probably not the only one who thought Joe would make it in the WWE before Punk or Bryan.  In 2005, it almost seemed like a no-brainer that Joe would get a shot with the company.

In my defense, seven years ago, none of us were predicting that the WWE would shift philosophies and start signing and pushing smallish indy guys.
