What is the worst PPV you have ever purchased?

Me and a buddy were in half and half on whatever bullshit WWE PPV it was where the main event was Undertaker vs. The Dudleys when they "killed" Paul Bearer by burying him in oatmeal and it might be one of the worst fucking matches/angles I've ever watched, I remember nothing else. A real example of a bad main event just blowing out my memories of the rest.

Great American Bash 2004.

For a while in the UK, PPV's came with Sky subscription. Top of my head 2010 was the year free ones stopped. Not sure the worst I paid for.

never paid for one entirely for myself; chipped in at a friend's house, or paid to get into a place showing one late nite. worst was WM27, just really boring, not terrible, made me stop watching wrestling for a little bit. either that or Invasion, the first seeds planted in my head that Vince was kind of losing it.

Ah the good old days when you only had to pay for the big four and they were usually worth the gamble

Idk if it was the worst PPV I ever purchased but I remember my dad ordering GAB 07 based solely on Dusty vs Randy Texas bullrope and him being upset when said Match wasn’t a Crockett era blood bath.

My father is also the man who had no interest in watching Hogan vs Rock. My brother and I begged him to order WM8 cuz we wanted to see Hogan vs Rock. He asked what else is on the show. I told him Ric Flair vs Undertaker. He got excited and was like “Flairs wrestling! Yep we’re getting it.”

King Of The Ring 1995 is probably the most widely regarded as bad PPV that I can be certain I paid for.

Why I paid for it I cannot be certain, other than a combination of A) no de-scrambler and B) having a glut of money at the time and not too many other hobbies to spend it on C) I kinda liked the King of the Ring gimmick I guess

I don't think anyone realized going in just how bad it was going to be, either. I mean, the finals easily could've been HBK vs Savio or The Roadie, and, while not match of the year quality, would likely have blown away anything Mabel was capable of at that point.

Plus not a single match over delivered. Hell, I'm not sure a single match even met expectations.

It certainly didn't look like a good show on paper, but I'm not sure anyone expected arguably the worst in WWF history.

I don't even remember it having any famously terrible lowlights, either.  Just being blandly underwhelming from start to finish, and at least 2 of the 3 championships weren't even defended (might be all 3, as fortunately I don't remember the card very well).

It even sucked at sucking.

I'm 100% sure no championship was defended. Jarrett (IC) was accompanying Roadie, Diesel (World) was in the Tag main. Tag Champs were MIA. The show was bad, I bought in on VHS actually. But it wasn't offensive.

First, Savio beat IRS to get Razor's spot, then we got four first round matches (Savio actually wrestling back to back matches). Mabel got a bye, Savio vs Roadie was the lone semi. Six riveting matches, the only two guys connecting with the crowd - Michaels and Taker - were eliminated in back-to-back matches.

Than it was Bret v Lawler, which was easily the best match on the card. But I'd say it was solid at best. It was followed by a really boring final, which only turned the crowd apathetic at best, some even vocally against the performers.

The main event was a weird Tag match, Diesel & Bam Bam vs Tatanka & Sid and I remember it quite a bit like the tournament final, slow paced and boring albeit inoffensive.

It was a completely weird show, with lots of filler guys, nobody being elevated through the KOTR. Mable will always battle Billy Gunn in the discussion of who was the worst choice of PPV era KOTR winners, I'd assume. Maybe he would have worked with a Big Daddy V overhaul, who knows.

Diesel wasn't a setting the world on fire and was in the midst of his almost year-long-run. Everything felt dull and uninspired. Only Hart and Lawler were in a feud with history and build to it. I remember a few matches being sloppily executed, a very weird finish for Holly v Roadie aswell. Savio Vega was brought in with this Rocky story, but he didn't feel like a good plucky underdog babyface. It was all just so weird and the bar was quite low and nothing overdelivered.

Tl;dr: Germany didn't really have PPVs (shows were on free tv with a two week delay) but since I bought a VHS it kind of qualifies as a worst PPV buy imho. Later on I bought some horrible stuff aswell, but never as underwhelming as this.

Your post reminds me that Yokozuna was on the preshow, losing a qualifying match to Savio Vega, and Owen was part of the broadcast team.  So not quite MIA but clearly missing from the broadcast you got.

I didn't even remember that it was Yoko and Owen at this point in time. I thought it was the Guns again, but you're right. I thought it was IRS on the pre show, Yokozuna in thd opener, though. My memory may fail me though.

When it comes to KOTR 1995 your memory isn't so much failing you as it is trying to do you a favor ?

I get what Vince was thinking with Mabel winning, in trying to make Diesel into Hogan, Mabel was Bundy/Andre/Quake/etc

But he was just so damn green and dangerous.

Mabel going pretty quickly from mid-card comedy tag wrestler to world title contender so quickly didn't help either. Men on a Mission were never seen as a serious threat. Their only tag title win came on a European tour and they dropped them back to the Quebecers a few days later.

I have been posting here for a long time, lurking here even longer. Many here don't know much about me but I got into wrestling at age 7. I loved Dibiase because he had a flashy suit. I really wanted to see the Main Event in Nov 1990 because the main was Warrior-Dibiase.  My uncle said he would tape it for me.  He ended up taping Clash of the Champions and then Main Event with the tape cutting out during Bossman-Perfect.    I was pissed at the time as I had never heard of nor seen WCW but I would end up becoming a huge WCW fan until they closed shop.  Anyhow I didn't really get to purchase a ppv until uncensored 95 but i had seen many a ppv with friends and renting vhs tapes (never knew that the vhs didn't have the full shows until later in life).  Well my parents had a really bad divorce and my dad did anything he could to get us to be with him (mainly to piss off my mom) so he acquired a ppv box.  I was fortunate enough to see every wcw/wwf/ecw ppv (and many spice porn movies) from 1996 on.

To get back on topic though. Even with the weekly NWA-TNA shows, there is one event that I felt robbed me even though I saw it for free.  The event was NWO souled out. The crap commentary, the match results, the things being overturned later,  it was just a hot mess and to this day I feel any who paid for it should have gotten a refund.

When I moved out of state and had to pay for ppv's on my own I would run into another garbage fest which was GAB with Paul Bearer being burried. I ordered this because the event was in my home town and wanted to see what kind of show they would get. I would have been better off putting $30 into a slot machine.

ECW Wrestlepalooza 98.  Had a ton of technical issues with the cable company.  Finally got the show going.  My friends and I were really into Al Snow at the time.  He's wrestling Shane Douglas for the title.  Douglas is injured so surely he's dropping the title.  Nope.  And the match sucked, to boot.  Sabu and Van Dam go to a 30 minute draw.  Yeah. Those are two guys who need to go long.  It may have been the first ECW ppv we ordered.  It was definitely the last.

Blame Vince for needing Al Snow back to job to fucking Too Much.

If that's the match I'm thinking of (the one with the Head and Head & Shoulders finish) then it leads me to this: KOTR '98 is probably the worst PPV I actually owned on VHS. Outside of the obvious car wreck spots, it was a total trash show and a great example of how terrible Attitude Era PPVs could be. Owen/X-Pac is the only thing really resembling a good match but even then the best part of it was when Vader tackled Mark Henry so hard he bounced off him like a pinball.
