Does this tweet that came straight from James Gunn lend the same kind of credence?

I think the problem is the obscene Pot Kettle Black thing going on.

A man who has a history of joking about rape just took down a man who has a history of joking about rape.

That being said, Gunn put Disney in the position of having to defend the indefensible.  Bad form.

The really ironic thing is that the company that once put a pickaninny centaur in the original edit of Fantasia is now judge and jury for all things morally correct and wholesome.  Give me a fucking break.  They have no more authority to judge Gunn for past stupidity than Alex Jones is qualified to be a water inspector.

A lot of folks here and elsewhere were excited to see Disney buy FOX.   I wasn't one of them.   Disney now owns over 40% of the box office.  They aren't just playing judge, jury and executioner.  They are the judge, jury and executioner of all things Hollywood.  This is what people wanted.

LOL I love Bobcat. He's a good dude. And I'm so fucking happy he threw a Powder/NAMBLA reference for good measure. Well done.

For those unaware, Bobcat's friend is the late Barry Crimmins. Barry was sexually assaulted when he was younger and later on in life took on AOL and other companies for allowing the trade of child pornography online. In a few interviews, Barry has talked about how the movie Powder is basically the official movie for NAMBLA. The movie was directed by a once (maybe twice?) convicted child molester. The themes of the movie play heavily into, well, y'all get it.

Anyway, same director of Powder directed Jeepers Creepers. Yes, a convicted predator and child sex offender directed a movie about a monster that abducts and violates kids/teens and gets away with it.

I recommend listening to Bobcat's recent episode on WTF, BTW. I'm only a few minutes into the interview and him talking about Barry's last days and seguing into Robin Williams (who was basically Bobcat's other best friend) is hilarious and heartbreaking.

And of course they fired Harlan Ellison on his first day for a joke about Minnie Mouse

You would think they could grow a pair.

Bobcat is awesome. Was anybody else reading it in his Police Academy voice.

Social Media is the tool of the devil and the worst thing to ever happen to society.  We'd all be better off if we just deleted it and never went back.

Kind of agree. I always thought that if you really want to use it you should have to pass some sort of intense empathy test as well as a basic IQ test

That would reduce the traffic by about 90%. Excellent idea!

Yes. 100% this. The episode of Joe Rogan's podcast where he had Bobcat and Barry on at the same time is a great listen as well.

And if everyone's checking out those podcasts, you may as well watch Call Me Lucky, which is the documentary about Barry Crimmins that Bobcat directed.

For the record, I think the downfall of society - or, at least, the internet - was high-speed connectivity.  At least, with dial-up, you had to be smart enough to remember your password, type it correctly, and hit enter.  High-speed internet removed the hurdles of signing on.

AOL passwords were basically a digital version of natural selection.  Who knew?

Bobcat Goldthwait is a standup comedian. James Gunn is not. It's easier to find the context of a TV show or a comedian telling those jokes than a Marvel movie director saying, "Ya see...I was a provocateur, and I told dirty jokes on Twitter to be shocking."  It makes Gunn come off like Gerald Broflovski on South Park.

It was Net Neutrality.  The moment when everyone realized that it was more fun to bully others than to be anti-bullying.  The moment when everyone decided it was more fun to bully people by paying armies of bots to harass others in order to make themselves feel good.  Now we have companies and micro economies all built around this garbage.  They don't care if you are on the left or right.  The color of money is the same on both sides.

So when do these folks go after Disney for being named after Walt Disney and everything in his background?

No, I'm serious as a fucking heart attack. I don't suffer fools gladly and this would reduce my aggravation levels considerably.
