JUNE 2018 WRESTLING DISCUSSION

Finished the article on Charlotte. Good stuff.

Spoiler

The bit about Reid asking her to visit for Christmas really punched me in the gut.

Minoru Suzuki recently tweeted something that I think fits really comfortably within the sentiments expressed in that paragraph, regarding the vulnerability/invincibility duality inherent in pro wrestling:

Quote

The ring is a sacred place where only superheroes are allowed to stand. It's also a place for anyone. Wrestling is only for those who have undergone rigorous training. It's also something anyone can do. It's only cheating if you don't stop before a 5 count. Wrestling is the ultimate form of entertainment.

Charlotte also got some PR yesterday on Mike Greenberg's new ESPN morning show, Ignore Us (um, maybe the actual title is "Get Up").

Michelle Beadle claimed Ric watches the show and tweeted in to talk up Charlotte when they started discussing the body issue.  So Beadle and Greeny started talking about Charlotte (mostly Beadle, who seemed to know something about the product).

I don't know that I believe Ric watches the show.  Is he in the market for a new wife?  He could certainly do worse than Beadle.

Yeah she knows wrestling. There was some incident with her calling CM Punk fuck face or something. It was years ago and I barely cared then, but my point being, shes familiar with the product.

Also, man that show is pure garbage. I usually sleep with ESPN on, but had to stop because it would put me back to sleep in the morning. Hopefully I can report back soon with a mention of Becky Lynch on Morning Joe or something.

Didn’t Beadle date Punk?

I don't think so, but something happened backstage with Beadle getting close to Punk and maybe that set AJ off? Shit, I don't even remember, but it was something like that.

I was kinda right

https://www.cagesideseats.com/wwe/2014/5/28/5757098/michelle-beadle-aj-lee-confrontation-cm-punk-wwe-tribute-to-the-troops

So at a Tribute to the Troops show, Beadle passed by Punk, said, "What up, fuck face?" Punk thought it was disrespectful, AJ got in Beadle's face, and Beadle walked away. Beadle also seems to indicate some kind of "friendship" with Punk, make of that what you will.

I've heard him on other interviews. Sounds the same to me.

This was the first time I heard his shoot voice.

Austin does not sound very impressed by him. Forty years ago, someone would have broke his legs.

I have been - and will continue to be - pro-Bliss.

But looking again at that MITB ladder match more unemotionally, I have to say she did not look good. I'd go so far as to say she was the worst woman in the match. Becky definitely came out of it looking the best and with the most crowd support. Next I would say I liked Lana.

Anyway, putting this comment here to say that not all Alexa Bliss fans are raving sycophants. (though you wouldn't know it on twitter - those kids are crazy!)

As a fellow huge Bliss supporter, it definitely was not a match she shined in unfortunately. Almost seemed an issue with throwing 8 people in the thing (I think it was Roode in the men's who didn't do much at all). But I still liked the outcome in a sneaky heel gets away with the win while doing as little as possible kind of way, especially considering she was the only heel in the match.

Yes, that is CBS Sports celebrating the 20th anniversary of THAT.

Someone at CBS Sports must use reddit, since for a while there, it didn't matter what sub you went in to, you were bound to run in to a post telling you to not let (insert thing here) distract you from the fact that in 1998, the Undertaker yadda yadda'd Mankind through a yadda yadda.

On that Shawn Michaels set their putting out, it lists "Michaels/Diesel vs. The Headshrinkers 8/30/94". Is that the match where they won the tag titles because I remember at Sumerslam 94 they showed up as tag champions and Vince on commentary was all "oh yeah they just won them". I don't think that match has ever been seen.
