I gotta consider the source here. Gotch has been bitching incessantly about Enzo since he (Gotch) got fired before Enzo did. Gotch is, by all accounts, no saint himself when it comes to backstage behavior.

Even if Simon Gotch is an asshole:

Simon > Enzo

At what? Wrestling? Sure. But going around whining about being slighted is only going to pay the bills so long...

Simon didn't allegedly rape a girl. Yes, Enzo got off, but then writes a diss track about it. So, like I said:

Simon > Enzo

Beech27 thanks for the explanation. I just never got the appeal but you summed it up nicely. Usually I'd get downvoted into oblivion and would never get why people like him. Just 'cause I don't like someone doesn't mean they're bad, right? So I appreciate the straightforwardness of your response.

Honestly, everyone here can probably name someone that everyone else loves, but that we just don't "get".  For me, it's Toshiaki Kawada.  Hey, if you can't work a great match without kicking the shit out of your opponent, then you can't work a great match.  (Come at me, bro.)

I'll play: Everyone on this forum loves Kurt Angle and thinks he's a top five GOAT. I don't get it.

Am I doing it right?

Yeah, because he's pretty overrated, too.  (Though I don't think he's as revered here as he is in other places.)

Um... I think this place is pretty much ground zero for "Kurt Angle is overrated" takes.

@mattdangerously

@Brian Fowler

I know, fellers. I was being silly. :P

Serious take, though: Scott Hall. I don't know how popular he is around here these days, but he's been well loved for decades. I don't understand. Besides his look, he's never impressed me. I do recall one match with, I think, Goldust at a KOTR, that was decent. But I chalk all of that up to Dustin. (I might be wrong on where the match was, but IIRC it was a tourney all on one show.)

People here were on the "Kurt Angle isn't that great" train in about 2002 once his philosophy clearly became "get all my shit in at top speed."

I like Kurt, but he was way better when his opponent or the match type broke him out of that mold. His matches with Steve Austin in 2001 are an example of this.

I feel like Kurt worked that garbage match with Shane at 2001's King of the Ring and decided that it would form a template for his matches. Maybe they wouldn't be filled with plunder, but they would be bomb-fests worked at above-average speed.

Don't get me wrong, I like bomb-fests, but Kurt wasn't Steiner Brothers-level elite at them or anything.

For me...and it's unpopular now more than ever, but...I just don't "get" Johnny Gargano.

It's hard- I recognize how talented he is and how good he is when I see him wrestle...but I hear so many people who's opinions I respect saying he has top face of the company potential, he's the next Daniel Bryan, he's the next great babyface in pro wrestling to lead the sport to a new boom period...and for the life of me, I just don't see it in Gargano and it drives me crazy thinking of what I'm missing here. I mean, the guy's good, but not THAT GOOD.

He's still too indy for me, but I've seen so many of his indy matches it's hard to separate him from his older wrestling. No matter how good the psychology and stuff is.

Speaking of jerks,

“I was getting so much heat it was awesome that people probably won’t appreciate it until five, ten years from now. Like a babyface transition that I made and on a marketing level too it was crazy and Vince wanted me in that grey area though. He didn’t want me full-blown. He had plans to make me full-blown that nobody else knew about, not even the other people that were involved in it.”

“I mean look at that Nia / Alexa Bliss WrestleMania blow-off. What do you think was gonna happen? How else could I get full-blown heat? Enzo Amore with the grey area trying to get full-blown heel real, real f–king heat. How do you do that? I’m using Nia as a heater to keep my title and I get caught hooking up with her best friend backstage. Bang, that’s how you do it. Nia didn’t know that. Alexa didn’t know it. I knew that because Vince told me […] I was just toying along with her I wanted her to win me matches, I wanted her to be like Chyna.”

The bold part I totally agree with, but I think Kawada is THE wrestler among the Japanese Greats who is mostly loved for his selling and his facial expression. The physicality of his matches is only added bonus I'd say.

I met Simon a few weeks ago at an Indy card here in Virginia. He was really personable and super nice to everyone. Obviously that doesn't mean he's a great guy to work with but I had a great interaction with him. He talked at length with anyone who wanted to chat with him.

Michael Hayes tweets are much more entertaining if you read them in the voice of a whiny teenage girl

Or you read it imagining Hayes' raspy voice coming from a teenage girl.
