I don't know how popular he is around here these days, but he's been well loved for decades. I don't understand. Besides his look, he's never impressed me. I do recall one match with, I think, Goldust at a KOTR, that was decent. But I chalk all of that up to Dustin. I like Kurt, but he was way better when his opponent or the match type broke him out of that mold. His matches with Steve Austin in 2001 are an example of this. I feel like Kurt worked that garbage match with Shane at 2001's King of the Ring and decided that it would form a template for his matches. Maybe they wouldn't be filled with plunder, but they would be bomb-fests worked at above-average speed. For me...and it's unpopular now more than ever, but...I just don't "get" Johnny Gargano. It's hard- I recognize how talented he is and how good he is when I see him wrestle...but I hear so many people who's opinions I respect saying he has top face of the company potential, he's the next Daniel Bryan, he's the next great babyface in pro wrestling to lead the sport to a new boom period...and for the life of me, I just don't see it in Gargano and it drives me crazy thinking of what I'm missing here. The bold part I totally agree with, but I think Kawada is THE wrestler among the Japanese Greats who is mostly loved for his selling and his facial expression. He was really personable and super nice to everyone. Obviously that doesn't mean he's a great guy to work with but I had a great interaction with him.
