Anyone else watch it? It is pretty friggin' great.

Ima gonna merge the posts from there to here.  The show can be one that people discover as time goes along.

I wonder what this does for YouTube Red. This is their first big, bonafide hit, right? Everything else that's been on YouTube Red looks like stuff they that had decent enough followings on YouTube that they then tried to monetize.

Maybe they could start by changing the name since it sounds like a porn streaming site?

Despite growing up in the era, I never actually watched KK start to finish. But it's on Amazon Prime, and, wow, Daniel is a little shit and there never were any heroes here, just insecure tools who solve problems of violence with more violence!

Parent of the Year award to Halt and Catch Fire, too.

I had no idea it existed until Cobra Kai.

What a way to get introduced to the product. A lot of people I know had no idea about the show. Just saying "Johnny reopens Cobra Kai" without getting into anything else and people are immediately wanting to know where they can watch such a glorious TV show.

It's pretty much made YouTube Red from hot garbage to semi-relevant overnight.

Johnny is the epitome of the eighties kid.

Its a look at nostalgia and why our generation wallows in it. Some of it is we genuinely like it better, because we grew up with it. The other thing is harder to grasp. The nostalgia takes us back to a different time. Not even a place where we were happy, but a place where we had hope. For Johnny the eighties represented hope for a better future. I think restarting Cobra Kai is Johnny trying to recapture that feeling.

I think Daniel should have been more sensitive in the finale. As a parent he should understand why a drunk Johnny would be upset at seeing his son with Daniel. The final cheap shot at the tourney seemed unnecessary.

Those complexities really elevated the show to something special. I certainly didn't expect to care about Johnny's Jonathan Brandis knockoff son or Daniel's daughter, but by the end I was.

And that's all on top of Johnny inadvertently creating a monster he may not be able to control.

I'm three episodes in and loving it. It's cheesy but in all the right ways. My only gripe is the constant profanity. Just doesn't seem to fit.

Daniel dropping the casual "God Damn" really seemed out of place.

Was having conversation with these guys about movies adding adult elements that are not needed and I thought of this. Then they started bitching about lesbians on a CW show and I mentally checked out.

Just finished watching through this and absolutely loved every minute. Best new show I've watched in years. So many amazing callbacks to the movies. Just a perfect spinoff 30+ years later.

Marked out huge for Commuter's "Young Hearts" playing when Miguel and Sam went to Golf N Stuff, so classic. Loved a lot of the music choices, especially that and the use of the original music for Daniel training scenes. Also got a kick out of "Bananarama pancakes". Loved the mirror image stuff showing the original film when Daniel and Johnny revisit Daniel's old place and Daniel returning to Miyagi's home, awesome stuff. Fantastic cliffhanger finale, each episode had me eager to watch the next. Seems like it'll be a long wait for season 2 to come next year but definitely looking forward to it.

I thought of when he told Miyagi he was "being his god damn slave" in the original

Finished watching the first season finally.  Liked it a lot.  Got a little more cheesy as the season wore on but was still really good.  I loved the scene late where Johnny tells his side of the story and basically recites the Barney Stinson "Daniel was the bad guy" version of the story.  Great stuff.  Loved all the music, the callbacks to the original, pretty much all of it.

Except I just didn't like the overly...raunchy?  Profane?  What's the word I'm looking for here?  The tone just didn't feel right.  Like the "blowpop" thing for Daniel's daughter.  Just so much unnecessary "we're on Youtube Red, let's not be PG" stuff.  Was jarring at times and felt out of place.

Still, enjoyed it a lot and can't wait for season 2!  Maybe they can convince Elisabeth Shue to return.

I liked they added clips showing what really happened. Which I enjoyed, since I hate those "The bad guy is really good" theory videos/articles.

I agree, that whole part felt like filler. But I took it as the push new characters part of these revivals.
