was about to watch the Invasion event (i was camping all weekend and am a bit behind) when i realized i hadn't posted last week's recap (or the smackdown before? for shame!). anyway, let's get up to date:

SmackDown
7/12/01 @ Birmingham, AL
dark match: Rob Van Dam  vs Johnny "the Bull" Stamboli. decent. RVD via split legged moonsault.
Shane McMahon & his WCW contingent open the show by coming to the ring to a chorus of boos. I guess despite all logic, WCW is now a heel stable.  Steph, Paul, and the ECW wrestlers come out. Big opening heel promo. no wrestlers talk.
Tazz  vs  Hardcore Holly.
Michael Cole: "this is the first match between WCW/ECW stars and WWF Superstars." nice way to put over the talent.
Tajiri joins us for commentary. a short 2 minute brawl, Tazz by Tazzmission.
Tazz attacks Tajiri and locks the Tazzmission on him, too. WCW 2, WWF 0.
Lance Storm  vs  Chris Jericho
very good back-and-forth match. Unfortunately, we only get 3 minutes. (DID SOMEBODY SAY THREE MINUTES?!?)
ultimately, Jericho makes Storm tap out to the Walls.  2-1

Vince cuts a promo asking for 'the old Stone Cold' to come back. Austin shakes his head and leaves the arena.
Kane  vs  Rhyno.
once again we only get 3 minutes. Kane dominates.
WWF Ref bump. Rhyno rolls up Kane, WCW ref Nick Patrick runs down and makes a fast count. 3-1.
Hardcore Title:  Jeff Hardy  vs  Mike Awesome (c)
OK match. Jeff brings the WWF title back after Edge & Christian smash Awesome with a Con-Chair-To.  3-2.
Kurt Angle & Undertaker  vs  Shane McMahon & DDP
Shane gets beat up by both men. DDP tags in and has the advantage over Angle.
Undertaker tags in and decimates both men.
interference by WCW/ECW guys causes a DQ. 3-3.     Taker & Angle beat them all up.
Kane & Jericho make the save. more WCW/ECW guys. WCW stands tall at the end, with a 20-4 advantage. yay.

HeAT  7/15/01
InterContinental Title:  Justin Credible  vs  Albert (c)
Credible got a decent amount of offense in, but Albert by Baldo Bomb. 3-4 (wwf takes the advantage!)
WCW CruiserWeight Title:  K-Kwik  vs  Billy Kidman (c)
quick paced match, as you'd expect. Kwik didn't do his research and tries to Powerbomb Kidman, but get reversed into that inverted Pedigree to retain. 4-4.
Big Show & Billy Gunn  vs  Shawn Stasiak & Kanyon
ShowGunn picks up the win after an Alley-Oop Bomb (did they ever name this move?) on Stasiak.  4-5.

Raw
7/16/01 @ Providence, RI
Spike Dudley professes his love for Molly. Heyman tries to convince him to join ECW.  Spike declines. the Dudley Boyz drive Molly through a table.
Faarooq  vs  Chuck Palumbo
After O'Haire distracts Faarooq, Palumbo lands the Jungle Kick for the quick surprise win. 5-5.
Mike Awesome  vs  Edge
match was fine but lacked any sort of hook and felt a bit flat.
Storm superkicks Edge, leading to the second straight WCW win tonight. 6-5.
Tazz  vs  William Regal
Tajiri joins us for commentary.
short match. Tazz has Regal down. Tajiri gets in the ring and pulls off his shirt to reveal an ECW one. then he head kicks Tazz from behind, causing a DQ. 7-5.
WCW World Title:  Booker T (c)  vs  Chris Jericho
very good match until the shenanigans at the end.
Jericho lands a missile dropkick but Nick Patrick won't make the count (arm injury)
then Jericho makes Booker T tap out, but Patrick doesn't see it (leg injury)
Earl Hebner comes out, but Shane stops him from calling for the bell. A low blow, and Booker rolls up Jericho. Patrick makes a fast three count.
officially we stand at 8-5, but all 4 tonight were cheap victories. Way to put over the invading champ, btw. he got visibly pinned AND tapped out AND had to resort to a low blow AND a fast count to steal a victory.
ECW Rules:  Raven  vs  Kurt Angle
complete squash. Angle by Ankle Lock.  8-6
Kanyon comes out to save Raven, but Angle takes him out too, then chases 2 more WCW guys away. jesus, can this get any more one sided? the first PPV hasn't even happened!
Hardy Boys  vs  Dudley Boyz
these teams have good chemistry and this match delivers.
Hardys get a visual pin but Bubba makes the save.
RVD runs down, giving D-Von enough leverage to counter a sunset flip and steal a pinfall. 9-6.
DDP & Rhyno  vs  Undertaker & Kane
to the surprise of absolutely nobody, the WWF guys- especially Undertaker- are dominating the match.
some WCW guys run down to interfere and it turns into a huge brawl.
Austin drives up (he's been drinking at the Friendly Tap all day, refusing to become the 'old Stone Cold') and whoops everyone's ass.

SmackDown!
7/19/01 @ Boston, MA

We start with another big promo with the entire WCW & ECW Coalition in the ring. Once again, we hear from Shane, Steph, and Heyman, but no wrestlers talk.
DDP  vs  Chris Jericho
a good match one again ruined by a BS ending.
Jericho gets a visual pin on DDP after a Lionsault, but Nick Patrick won't make the count. It would be kinda awesome if they played up that Patrick was the nWo referee and he actually wrestled Jericho at the nWo PPV back in '97, but they don't.
Jericho gets DQ'd for basically nothing, then makes DDP tap to the Liontamer.
another "win" for WCW while they continue to look inferior in every way. 10-6.
Lance Storm  vs  Christian
very competitive match. Christian hits a nice Tornado Reverse DDT from the turnbuckle.
lots of outside interference, mostly from Mike Awesome, but in the end, Edge Spears Storm for the win. 10-7. More of this, please.
Dudley Boyz & Tazz  vs  Tajiri, Undertaker, & Kane
Undertaker & Kane completely dominate. Team ECW isolates Tajiri for a while.
hot tag to Taker and he wipes all of them out. Taker by chokeslam. sigh. 10-8.
Bradshaw  vs  Sean O'Haire
hard hitting match. Bradshaw largely controls it, but O'Haire has his moments to shine. Bradshaw hits a Clothesline from Hell and that's that. 10-9.
Arm Wrestling Match:  Torrie Wilson   vs  Trish Stratus
this was absolute garbage. Torrie gets the "win" after Nick Patrick cheapshots Earl Hebner and Stacy cheats.
post-match, Trish, Lita, and Hebner beat up Patrick.
Jeff Hardy & X-Pac  vs  Kidman & RVD
not a dull second in this one! this is as fast-paced as they come. worth checking out if you like cruiserweight action.
X-Pac tries to X-Factor Van Dam, but RVD avoids it by doing the splits. Kidman catches Pac with the Reverse Pedigree (still hasn't been named AFAIK) for the win. 11-9.
Booker T & Rhyno  vs  Steve Austin & Kurt Angle
Rhyno GORES! Angle before the match starts.
Austin then comes out and beats up both men.
DDP on the titantron, he has Debra in the trunk of a car, which baits Austin into leaving the ring.
Giant brawl backstage and outside. In-ring, Dudleyz attack Angle and put him through a table.
Another non-finish main event.

Jakked 7/20/01
Chavo Guerrero, Jr.  def Essa Rios (i can't find video of this one).  12-9.
Justin Credible  vs  K-Kwik.
Joined in progress. Credible by superkick.  13-9.
Gregory Helms  vs  TAKA Michinoku
better than i expected. Helms is still a bit sloppy here. Taka gets the upset win with the Michinoku Driver. 13-10.
Billy Gunn  vs  Hugh Morrus
meh. exactly what you'd expect from these two. Gunn via the One And Only.  13-11.

we are to the point where every match is WCW/ECW vs WWF. they keep hyping up that this is "the biggest challenge the WWF has ever faced" and specifically talk about how the government couldn't take them down. There's a big 5-on-5 match at the PPV and JR & Michael Cole keep talking about how WCW/ECW has so many great choices for who they will pick. On the WWF side, you have WWF Champ Steve Austin (the old Stone Cold, back to his ass kicking ways), Olympic Gold Medalist (and former champ) Kurt Angle, the Undertaker ('nuff said!), Kane (arguably the weakest of the bunch, but we are in one of his PUSH periods), and Chris Jericho (who has come within a hair of beating both champs, Austin and Booker T, within the last month).
on the WCW side, we have WCW Champ Booker T (zero clean wins since this all began), DDP (who has been smashed by Undertaker multiple times), Rhyno (they make a big deal out of him being the last ECW champ, but he's been in Hardcore Title limbo for the last 4-5 months), and the Dudley Boyz (multiple time tag champs).  this doesn't even seem close as far as the TV booking goes.
Also, like i've mentioned in the reviews, WCW has looked weak in practically every matchup. they currently hold two more wins than team WWF, but almost all of them are due to cheating, biased refereeing, outside interference, or some combination of all three. Team WWF, specifically every member of their PPV team, hasn't been on the bad side of a match yet. If they want to sell this as an actual threat, they need to show that the WCW/ECW coalition has some sort of chance. this is utterly ridiculous.

INVASION
7/22/01 @ Cleveland, OH
HeAT match:  Scotty 2 Hotty  vs  Chavo Guerrero, Jr.
they mention Chavo as a 3rd generation wrestler, and namedrop Gory and Chavo Sr., but not Eddie
the referee is Brian Hebner, who the announcers tout as a WCW official. since when? i don't remember him on Nitro ever.
we get about 7 minutes. it's not bad, but the crowd doesn't seem to care for anything except the W-O-R-M
Chavito gets the win after a brainbuster. WCW 14, WWF 11.

Lance Storm & Mike Awesome  vs Edge & Christian
Storm & Awesome don't get an entrance. not off to a great start.
fantastic match! great tag team work from both sides.
Christian takes a King (of the Ring) sized beating as the Face In Peril
he gets the hot tag to Edge after reversing a top rope Awesome Bomb and the crowd loses it
Lance Storm superkicks Edge, and when Awesome goes for the Awesome Bomb, he eats a Spear from Christian leading to the first WWF win. 10 glorious minutes that could've been twice as long with no complaints from me. 14-12.

Nick Patrick w/WCW referees  vs  Earl Hebner w/WWF referees
Mick Foley showed up on HeAT and announced himself as the official for this one. ok.
three minutes of trash. full of all the bad acting and obvious spots you would imagine.  the crowd eats it up though.
Hebner wins with a ... shoulderblock? tackle? something like that. 14-13.
Post-match, Foley gives Patrick a right hand sandwich and a Mr. Socko dessert.

WWF Tag Champs APA  vs  WCW Tag Champs Palumbo & O'Haire (non-title match)
lots of punches, kicks, and clotheslines, but doesn't really feel like a brawl.
perfectly serviceable, but nothing special. felt too long at 7 minutes.
Palumbo Jungle Kicks Faarooq, but runs straight into the Clothesline From Hell.  14-14.

WWF Light Heavyweight Champ X-Pac  vs  WCW Cruiserweight Champ Billy Kidman (non-title match)
X-Pac enters to a chorus of boos. i think he's the only WWF guy to get that treatment.
pretty good match. not amazing, but solid action.
Kidman counters a powerbomb into a facebuster. Michael Cole is shocked by that reversal. shocked, i tell you!
Kidman comes off the top rope but Pac turns it into the X-Factor! and only a 2 count for his troubles.
X-Pac attempts the Bronco Buster, but Kidman gets a foot up. Kidman up top, the crowd stands up, and a Shooting Star Press scores the victory at 7 minutes.  15-14

Raven  vs  William Regal
really odd match that feels very disjointed. Even the hot crowd is silent for this one.
Tazz runs in and suplexes Regal. leading to Raven planting him with the Evenflow DDT for the 2nd straight WCW win in 7 minutes.  16-14

Big Show, Billy Gunn, & Albert  vs  Shawn Stasiak, Kanyon, & Hugh Morrus
starts off with a pretty good Gunn-Kanyon segment. sadly, that's as good as it gets.
Big Show gets dumped outside, the there's a big crowd pop, but they don't show it on camera. This must be the famous "Big Show disappearing act" since he's gone for the rest of the match.
Albert hits the BaldoBomb but Hugh Morrus makes the save.
Gunn hits the FameAssEr but Kanyon distracts the ref.
Stasiak hits the reverse DDT and then gets confused and hangs out in the ring. Somehow, Morrus still gets the 3 count in a rushed 4 minute match.  17-14
Post-Match, Big Show finally reappears and steamrolls all three men.

Tazz  vs  Tajiri
solid match if a bit underwhelming
Tazz controls most of it but the crowd loves everything Tajiri does
Green Mist and a headkick leads to a Tajiri victory.  17-15

Hardcore Holly is at WWF New York. He assaults a fan in a WCW t-shirt.  Take that, merch vendors!

Hardcore Title: Rob Van Dam  vs  Jeff Hardy (c)
backstage, RVD smacks Matt Hardy with a steel chair.
this match was all sorts of awesome. they brawl at ringside, through the crowd, and all over.
Hardy gets pushed off a ladder onto the entrance ramp ("How do you learn to fall off a 20 foot ladder?")
RVD hits a picture-perfect Van Daminator on Jeff, sending him off the stage.
Hardy misses a Swanton Bomb, leading to RVD landing a 5 Star Frog Splash.
Van Dam got a few cheers when he came out, but has all the crowd support by the end.
13 minutes well spent, and a clean WCW win to boot!  18-15

Bra & Panties Match:  Torrie Wilson & Stacy Keibler  vs  Trish Stratus & Lita
Mick Foley is back as special guest referee
no Play-By-Play needed. Trish & Lita pick up the win.  18-16

Inaugural Brawl:  Team WCW/ECW Coalition (Dudley Boyz, Rhyno, Booker T, & DDP)  vs  Team WWF (Kane, Undertaker, Jericho, Angle, & Austin)
of course, Shane, Steph, and Vince all get separate entrances before the wrestlers
immediately, all 10 men brawl in the entranceway
the first 10 minutes are "WWF guy beats up WCW guy, tag, repeat"
the Undertaker tags in, and i get my wish- he actually doesn't dominate. In fact, he takes the most punishment yet!
match picks up at times but kinda meanders along for the next 6-7 minutes.
At 22 minutes, DDP hits Angle with the DiamondCutter and the match breaks down.
Taker destroys DDP. Rhyno accidentally GORES! Booker T.
Taker powerbombs Charles Robinson right in front of the WWF referee.
Austin tweaks his knee. Kane chokeslams D-Von through the announce table, then gets suplexed through the Spanish one.  Jericho puts Rhyno through a table for good measure.
In the ring, Angle Olympic Slams Bubba. Ref bump. Angle locks the Ankle Lock on Booker T.
Austin throws the ref in the ring and then Stunners....Angle ?!?
Booker T covers. Austin has turned on the WWF. Don't Trust Anyone indeed. The WCW/ECW Coalition gets their biggest win after 30 minutes of war.  19-16

thoughts:
decent opening package with stock footage of war-like footage interspersed with FDR and with in-ring antics as of late.
very cool entrance ramp. it was shaped like a "Y". WCW guys used the left doorway and WWF used the right. they barely showed it on camera but it was a nice touch.

pretty good event overall, even if some of the matches underperformed. E&C/Storm & Awesome and RVD/Hardy were easily the highlights of the night. Ref match was a stinker.
they made up some ground as far as WCW guys looking good, but they still have a long way to go. They were obviously in dire straights before the Austin turn, which doesn't really help build the credibility of this big scary invading force.
I'm still somewhat surprised that WCW has won more matches, but i expect that to change soon. That, or we'll be right back with WCW being inferior but winning through shenanigans. Probably the latter.

Raw
7/23/01 @ Buffalo, NY
Austin, Shane, Steph, & Heyman to start. Austin's new music sucks. they say "WCW-ECW Alliance" like 12 times. they drone on for 15 minutes. Angle comes out and chases them away.
Hardcore Title: Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Matt Hardy
JR tells us that RVD hates the WWF and hates WWF fans. huh?
RVD sandwiches Matt inside a ladder and drops a frog splash to retain. ouch.  20-16.
InterContinental Title:  Lance Storm  vs  Albert (c)
Storm steals one after interference from Mike Awesome and Hugh Morrus. 21-16
both locker rooms empty and we get a huge brawl with Team WWF standing tall
Tajiri vs  Raven
OK match. Tajiri's stuff looks good and crisp. Raven looks a bit off.
Tajiri gets the dub after a Tarantula and a Buzzsaw Kick. 21-17
Undertaker  vs  Rhyno
Taker wins with relative ease (go figure). 21-18
for good measure, Taker and Sara have an extended beatdown on DDP
Page pulls Sara in front of a Taker chair shot. the only way to make Taker look weak is to take out his wife. i think we're at three weeks running now.
Chris Jericho  vs  Kanyon
Kanyon is wearing his "Alliance MVP" shirt.
fun, competitive match. gets a decent amount of time and the crowd likes it.
Kanyon taps out to the Liontamer. 21-19

Vince comes down to the ring and reinstates the Rock. Then steals all of his catchphrases.
Spanking Match: Torrie Wilson  vs  Trish Stratus
Paddle-On-A-Pole. first one to use the paddle wins.
pretty ugly match. trish gets the paddle, but torrie is the first to use it for the win. 22-19.
Elimination Tables Match:  Dudley Boyz & Booker T  vs  Edge, Christian, & Kurt Angle
JR continues to disparage the Spin-A-Roonie
Christian gets 3D'd through a table. Booker spinebusters Edge through one.
Angle fights back, overheady belly-to-belly suplexing D-Von onto a table. it doesn't break, so he does it again with better results
then he Olympic Slams Booker onto a table. it also doesn't break. he sets it up in the corner and runs Booker through it instead.
Ref Earl Hebner gets bumped and Nick Patrick comes down.
Patrick saves Bubba by moving a table, so Angle puts the Ankle Lock on Patrick
Austin beats up Angle and Stunners him, allowing Bubba to powerbomb him through the table for the win. 23-19. but there's no ref, so does it really count?
Team WWF chases Austin off to close the show.

SmackDown!
7/26/01 @ Pittsburgh, PA
Hardy Boys  vs  Billy Kidman & Hurricane Helms
don't be mistaken: despite the name change, Helms isn't a superhero. He hasn't changed anything and the announcers don't even mention it.
pretty good match, if we had gotten more than 3 minutes it could've accomplished something. Hardys by Twist of Fate / Swanton. 23-20.
Shane/Steph/Paul to the ring. they introduce all of the Alliance champions, one by one.
Steph announces that Booker T is bequeathing the US Title to Kanyon. thanks, Steph.
Angle comes out and challenges Austin. tonight we get Angle vs Booker T instead.
Dudley Boyz  vs  the Show-Gunns
they play up that Big Show thought up this stupid team name.
passable match. Show inadvertently clotheslines Gunn, who then gets 3D'd. 24-20
DDP  vs  Kane
DDP gets more offense in that he has against Taker yet, but Kane still looks stronger.
Kane hits DDP with a chair and gets DQ'd. 25-20.
JR is appalled that Kane was disqualified since it was Page that brought the chair into the ring. umm, those are the rules.
Jericho & Tajiri  vs  Kanyon & RVD
this failed to live up to expectations. Team WWF dominated the whole thing.
Kanyon nails Tajiri with the US belt, leading to a 5 Star Frog Splash for the pin. 26-20
InterContinental Title: Lance Storm (c)  vs  Perry Saturn
Saturn has made his choice: Moppy > Terri
Saturn controls much of the match. Once Storm takes over, he disparages Moppy. Saturn snaps and hits Storm with Moppy, then beats him all the way to the back. Storm by DQ. 27-20
Edge & Christian  vs  Tazz & Rhyno
this was OK. Tazz locks Christian in the Tazzmission, but Rhyno GORES! Christian/Tazz and they both fall, with Christian on top to get the pinfall. 27-21
WCW World Title:  Booker T (c)  vs  Kurt Angle
solid match that is baffingly booked.
first six minutes are good, then both locker rooms clear and brawl at ringside. Kanyon hits Angle with a chair and the crowd disperses. 2 count.
now the match continues and we pretend that never happened. ref bump, Olympic Slam.
Austin runs out and Stunners Angle.
Angle pops up and makes Booker T tap seconds later. New Champ!  27-22
not sure why they've made Booker T look like a chump in basically every appearance he's had. Couldn't he have at least looked good in ONE of his title defenses (win or lose) so that if/when he faces a main eventer in the future, he'll look like a challenge?

Jakked 7/28/01
Mark Jindrak  vs  Jerry Lynn
Jindrak by Tiger Driver. sloppy match. 28-22. why is Mr. JL on Team WWF?
Haku  vs  Shawn Stasiak
Stasiak steals a pin with his feet on the ropes? i motion this match be stricken from the record. 29-22 anyway.
Chavo Guerrero, Jr. & Hurricane Helms  vs  KaiEnTai
good match. Chavo via Brainbuster. 30-22
Crash Holly  vs  Justin Credible
Crash gets a rollup win after a cool sequence of Tombstone counters. 30-23.

HeAT  7/29/01
Scotty 2 Hotty  vs  Chavo Guerrero, Jr.
solid match. Chavo misses a top rope splash, with Scotty connecting with the WORM for the win  30-24
Raven & Justin Credible  vs  Kaientai
this wasn't bad. Raven DDTs Fuanki. 31-24
Albert vs Hugh Morrus
meh. Albert dominates and wins via Baldo Bomb  31-25
Hardcore Holly vs Mike Awesome
quick and hard hitting. Holly by Alabama Slam  31-26

Raw
7/30/01 @ Philadelphia, PA
Tazz  vs  Chris Jericho
Heyman rejoins the commentary team as Dreamer escorts Cole to the back. finally.
match starts out quick and ends the same way. Jericho wins after a Lionsault in like a minute.  31-27.
Hardcore Title:  Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Tajiri
fantastic match that the crowd completely adored. started off with a cool martial arts move/counter move sequence. shame it only went 4 minutes.
RVD retains after a Five Star Frog Splash onto a chair. 32-27
Matt Hardy & Lita  vs  Hurricane Helms & Torrie
Torrie is atrocious. she ruined any chance of this being good.
Matt hits Helms with the Twist of Fate, but Torrie (out of position) low blows him and Hurricane rolls him up for the pin 33-27
WCW Title / No DQ:  Kurt Angle (c)  vs  Booker T
this match left a lot to be desired. Angle is immediately jumped by 5 WCW guys. Team WWF brawls with them to the back.
long story short, Angle is about to win but Austin Stunners him and Booker T gets the win . 34-27
Also, why was Earl Hebner (a WWF referee) officiating a WCW title match?
Edge & Christian  vs  Lance Storm & Kanyon
solid match. Storm/Kanyon isolate Christian and work him over with some cool offense.
Edge DDTs Storm, but Kanyon flapjack/Flatliners Edge onto a title belt to steal a win. 35-27
Title vs Title:  WCW Cruiserweight Champ Billy Kidman  vs  WWF Light Heavyweight Champ X-Pac
good match. X-Pac seemed fired up and motivated, and it definitely showed
X-Pac finishes with a top rope X-Factor and we've got our first Dual Champion!  35-28
Tables Match:  Dudley Boyz  vs  Undertaker & Kane
this was an OK brawl
we saw interference from DDP and shady officiating from Nick Patrick.
Somehow, Undertaker is able to overcome the odds (note the sarcasm) as he chokeslams Bubba through a table.  35-29
All night we've been awaiting the Rock. He is expected to join either Team WWF or the Alliance. Finally, with like 5 minutes left in the show, Rocky arrives.
Vince, Shane, & Rock in the ring. This segment sucked.
Vince drones away on the mic for too long. Not to be outdone, Shane does the same thing. Rock gives the Rock Bottom to Vince as Shane celebrates.
then Shane gets Rock Bottomed and the People's Elbow, too. Rock gets on the mic. "Finally, the Rock has come back.......to the WWF". end show.

SmackDown!
8/2/18 @ Washington D.C.
Angle cuts a fiery pro-USA face promo and leads the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Lance Storm takes offense and points out a few reasons why America is not the greatest. Angle responds the American way, by challenging Storm to a fight and calling him names. Storm ends the segment with a Superkick.
Hardy Boys  vs  Chuck Palumbo & Sean O'Haire (non WCW Tag Team Titles match)
OK match but nothing special.
Matt with the Twist of Fate on O'Haire and Jeff follows it up with the Swanton. But with the ref corralling Matt out of the ring, Chuck is able to Jungle Kick Jeff so Sean can get the surprise clean (!) win.  36-29
US Title:  Kanyon (c)  vs  Kane
complete domination by Kane. He goes to Chokeslam Kanyon, who grabs referee Nick Patrick.
Patrick calls for the DQ, so Kane chokeslams him. 36-30
Rock/Booker T/Shane segment. Rock wants Austin, Booker wants Rock, we get Rock vs Shane on Raw.
Dudley Boyz & Rhyno  vs  Edge, Christian, & Chris Jericho
good match. great chemistry with all these guys.
Jericho has D-Von in the Walls of Jericho, but Rhyno GORES! him for another good Alliance win.  37-30
Lance Storm  vs  Kurt Angle
this match was pretty good. Given these mens' pedigrees, i expected more of a technical contest, but we got one that relied on brawling.
Angle with the Olympic Slam and he forces Storm to tap out to the Ankle Lock.  37-31
WCW Title:  Undertaker  vs  Booker T (c)
this was a non-title match, but gets switched last minute.
Taker dominates (surprise, surprise). i think Shane actually gets more offense than Booker.
Undertaker with the worst Cross Arm Breaker/Straight Armbar i've ever seen. Worse than Sgt. Craig Pittman's.
non-finish sees: Interference from Shane, a ref bump, Booker T with a Steel Chair, Rock with a Rock Bottom, Booker T with a Belt Shot, Shane pulling the ref out of the ring, and ultimately, the Rock and Undertaker fending off the entire invading WCW contingent.

Jakked 8/4
tape quality is trash, so not many details fothcoming.
Raven  vs  Essa Rios- Raven by DDT. 38-31
Hugh Morrus vs Albert (rematch from HeAT)
Albert with a nice double underhook stalling suplex. He also fights off Mark Jindrak and wins with the Baldo Bomb. 38-32
Scotty 2 Hotty  vs  Justin Credible
hard to see, but i think Credible counters the WORM with a Superkick for the win. 39-32
Rhyno & Mike Awesome  vs  Show-Gunn
Fame-Ass-Er on Awesome for the win. 39-33

HeAT 8/5
Saturn  vs  Chavo Guerrero, Jr
Saturn catapults Chavo into Moppy (propped up in the corner) then directly into the Moss Covered Three-Handled Family Gradunza for the win.  39-34
Hardcore Holly  vs  Shawn Stasiak
Holly with the Alabama Jam.  39-35
Raven & Justin Credible  vs  Show-Gunn
showcase match. Show pins Credible after the Alley-Oop Bomb. 39-36.
Hardcore Title:  Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Jerry Lynn
great match. At only 6 1/2 minutes, it doesn't hold a candle to their ECW stuff, but it's miles better than anything else on Heat. RVD by 5 Star Frog Splash.  40-36

Raw
8/6/01 @ Anaheim, CA
Hardcore Title:  Kane  vs  Rob Van Dam (c)
fun match, hard hitting. RVD retains after DDP nails Kane with a chair, setting him up for the 5 Star Frog Splash.  41-36
Handicap Match:  Stacy & Torrie  vs  Jacquelyn
Ivory runs out and DDTs Jackie so the WCW girls steal a win. what?  42-36

Light HeavyWeight Title:  Tajiri  vs  X-Pac (c)
X-Pac's WCW Cruiserweight title is not on the line because Commissioner Regal can't make those decisions about WCW championships. What about Booker/Taker for the WCW World title last week then?
quick match but good. Tajiri with the green mist and a Buzzsaw Kick to capture the WWF title.
Dudley Boyz  vs  Chris Jericho & Mystery Partner Kurt Angle
i enjoyed this. Rhyno GORES! Jericho.
Angle goes up top to moonsault D-Von, but D-Von gets his knees up which basically folds Angle in half. ouch!
Bubba taps to the Ankle Lock.  42-37
InterContinental Title:  Christian  vs  Lance Storm (c)
pre-match, Christian invites Storm to take part in a Canadian 5 second pose.  Storm agrees, and Edge pulls his pants down. The announcers point out that he's wearing Power Rangers undies.
The match itself was fine, but could've been so much more.
Storm rolls through a German Suplex and bridges for a pin, but also grabs the ropes to steal one. The ending wasn't the prettiest, but whatever works.  43-37
Matt Hardy  vs  Steve Austin
this happens because Debra exaggerates an interaction between herself and Lita.
the finish is no surprise:  Kick, Wham, Stunner!  44-37
but the story they told was better than i expected. Austin, the paranoid wily veteran, vs Matt Hardy, the young upstart defending his fair maiden. much different than any match Austin has had in quite a while.
Street Fight:  Shane McMahon  vs  the Rock
they brawl through the crowd for a good while.  the Rock dominates the match, as he should.
Rock fights off Booker T and Rock Bottoms Shane to win the match.  44-38.
Post-Match, Booker & Shane beat down the Rock. Shane top rope elbow drops the Rock through the announce table.

SmackDown!
8/9/01 @ Los Angeles, CA
WWF Tag Team Titles:  APA (c)  vs  Kanyon & DDP
APA dominates. i don't think Bradshaw took a single move, punch, or bump.
Until Test runs in. He Big Kicks Faarooq and hits Bradshaw with the belt. Kanyon for the pin and we've got new champs!  45-38

Arnold Schwarzenegger is in the house.
Perry Saturn  vs  Raven w/Terri
short but sweet. Saturn wins the same way he did on HeAT (catapult to Moppy into the Cradle Suplex).  45-39.  i didn't notice if they showed it on camera, but Terri has stolen Moppy.
former WCW Champion David Arquette is also ringside.
Hardcore Title:  Edge  vs  Rob Van Dam (c)
fun match. Lance Storm runs out to cause some largely ineffective interference.
Storm & RVD are finally able to hit Edge with the Con-Chair-To to successfully retain.  46-39.

Spike & Tajiri  vs  X-Pac & Albert
crowd is super into this. match is decent enough.
X-Pac hits Tajiri with a title belt and Albert follows that up with a Baldo Bomb for the win.
Long Shane/Booker T promo. Rock interrupts and a brawl breaks out. Rock with the Rock Bottom on Shane through the announce table.
WCW Tag Team Titles:  Palumbo & O'Haire  vs  Undertaker & Kane
not as one-sided as i expected, but at no point did the WCW guys look like they had a real chance.
Taker & Kane win WCW tag gold with tandem chokeslams.  46-40
Hugh Morrus  vs  Chris Jericho
Morrus taps out to the Liontamer in short order. 46-41
post-match, Rhyno blindsides Jericho and GORES! him through the SmackDown video screen.

Saturn calls the cops regarding his missing person..err..mop. but we do get Moppy's full name:  Moppy Q. McMopperson
Elimination Match:  Dudley Boyz & Steve Austin  vs  Hardy Boys & Kurt Angle
Angle makes D-Von tap to the Ankle Lock.
Bubba pins Matt after a Bubba Bomb.
Jeff gets eliminated somehow? I must've missed it but he's gone now.
Angle pins Bubba after the Angle Slam.
D-Von runs out and hits Angle with a chair. the Dudleyz hold him up so Austin can deliver a Stone Cold Stunner. then the Dudleyz give him a 3-D. the Hardys run out and i guess this is a no contest?
Angle is taken away on the stretcher. Austin gets on the mic and berates him. Angle fights off the stretcher and makes Austin tap to the Ankle Lock.

Jakked 8/11
Justin Credible  vs  Jerry Lynn
Credible doesn't get an entrance, so this won't bode well for him.
I may have spoken too soon. Credible fights out of the Tornado DDT and hits a Superkick, but only gets two. Jerry Lynn does end up getting the win with a roll-up. 46-42
Mike Awesome  vs  Albert
Awesome gets an early advantage and lands a top rope splash, but only gets a two count. Albert dominates for a bit and picks up a win after a Baldo Bomb.  46-43

HeAT 8/12/01
K-Kwik  vs  Hurricane Helms
pretty good match. Cole & Snow put over Helms on commentary.  So of course, Kwik wins with an X-Factor-like facebuster.  46-44
Stasiak & Awesome  vs  Crash & Hardcore Holly
the Hollys win with an Alabama Jam on Stasiak. not bad.  46-45
InterContinental Title:  Lance Storm (c)  vs  Scotty 2 Hotty
fun match. crowd pops BIG for the WORM attempt.
Storm wins with a roll-through single leg crab 47-45
Rhyno  vs  Billy Gunn
this was a good one. i totally bit on a couple of the false finishes.
Gunn counters the GORE! with a well-timed dropkick to the face, then follows up with the One And Only, but only gets a two count.
As Gunn sets up the Fame-Ass-Er, Rhyno steamrolls him with the GORE! for the win.  48-45

Raw
8/13/01 @ Chicago, IL
L-O-N-G opening promo by Steve Austin. he berates multiple members of the Alliance, ending with him using his belt to whip Tazz.
Impact Players (Lance Storm & Justin Credible)  vs  Edge & Christian
Christian gets bumped off the apron and clutches his leg.
Edge fights off both men and pins Credible after a DDT.  48-46
Steel Cage Match / WCW Tag Team Titles:  Palumbo & O'Haire  vs  Undertaker & Kane (c)
Kane chokeslams O'Haire within 10 seconds of being in the ring.  The WCW guys never get another piece of offense and get double pinned a few minutes later.  48-47
Test vs Spike Dudley
fun squash. Test by Big Kick  49-47
Hardcore Title:  Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Kurt Angle
this was a hell of a sprint.
Angle puts RVD in the Ankle Lock, but Raven & Tommy Dreamer run down.  As Angle fights them off, Jeff Hardy runs out, Swanton Bombs RVD, and pins him to win the Hardcore Title (24/7 rule).  49-48
Rhyno & Booker T  vs  Jericho & Rock
decent enough match. Jericho makes Rhyno tap out, but there's no ref.
Shane & Steph interfere and Rhyno rolls Jericho up to steal one.  50-48
post-match, Rock beats up everybody, handing out Rock Bottoms like Halloween Candy.  But Booker T blindsides him, and gives a Rock a Rock Bottom of his own!

SmackDown!
LIVE!  8/16/01 @ Salt Lake City, UT
Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" opening theme and giant fist entryway make their first debut here.
we start with back-to-back Shane/Booker and Rock promos. Stasiak comes out, says he'll do something the fans will never forget tonight.
Rock  vs  Shawn Stasiak
punch, punch, Rock Bottom, three count.  50-49
First ever "Austin Invitational"-
Austin berates first contestant Scotty 2 Hotty for quite a while. then starts an ass-whooping when Scotty dares to try the WORM.
Angle makes the save, Tazz attacks Angle, WWF guys chase off Austin/Tazz.
this left a lot to be desired. Good Austin promo, though, too long for my taste.
Rob Van Dam & Rhyno  vs  Jeff Hardy & Jericho
RVD's timing seemed off in this match. He and Jericho didn't mesh well. Jeff Hardy is insanely over with the ladies.
Ending was contrived. RVD put a ladder through the ropes, half in the ring. Then he waited on the top rope for Jeff Hardy to crawl over and set himself in position to be see-sawed. A 5 Star Frog Splash finished things off.  51-49
WWF Tag Team Titles:  Edge & Christian  vs  Kanyon & DDP (c)
Lance Storm superkicks Edge, so Christian chases him to the back. A Diamondcutter seals the deal as Kanyon gets the pinfall victory.  52-49
Tazz  vs  Kurt Angle
despite the ring being surrounded by WCW and WWF wrestlers, we see no interference (!)
Neat finish as Angle counters the Tazzmission into the Olympic Slam. didn't go long, but it was fun.  52-50.
"Lights Out" Match:  Booker T  vs  Rock
they brawl around ringside. Shane interferes, allowing Booker T to drive the Rock through the announce table with a Book End.
Book & Shane celebrate, but there's no pinfall or announcement, so......no contest?

Jakked 8/19/01
Chavo Guerrero, Jr.  vs  Essa Rios
really good match. would've fit in on Nitro in '97.
Essa counters the Gory Special into a Sunset Flip, which looked very slick.
Chavo gets the dub after a top rope Falcon Arrow like move.  53-50.
K-Kwik  vs  Mike Awesome
decent stuff. Awesome by Awesome Bomb.  54-50
Shawn Stasiak & Hurricane Helms  vs  Kaientai
this was better than i expected. Stasiak by Reverse DDT (called a Reverse Neckbreaker by Kevin Kelly)  55-50
Hardcore Holly  vs  Hugh Morrus
Holly by Alabama Slam. not as stiff as i would've guessed.  55-51.

SummerSlam
8/19/01 @ San Jose, CA

HeAT:
Ivory, Torrie, & Stacy  vs  Jacquelyn
was supposed to be Jackie & Lita, but the WCW girls took Lita out backstage earlier.
Molly Holly makes her way to the ring. i guess she's replacing Lita unannounced.
Ivory beats on Jackie. Lita hobbles down and gives Ivory the Twist of Fate. Jackie pins for the three count.  57-53
Molly, Stacy, nor Torrie ever tagged in.

InterContinental Title:  Lance Storm (c)  vs  Edge
Storm has the early advantage and works over Edge's midsection expertly.
This was a really good match to open the card. the fans are totally into Edge and bite on every false finish.
Christian runs down and tries to spear Storm, but he sidesteps and Edge eats the spear instead.
Edge is resilient and DDTs Storm to win the match and the title at about 11 minutes.  57-54

Spike Dudley & APA  vs  Test & Dudley Boyz
this match really only came alive when Spike was in the ring. He is just so good at being an ass kickee.
After 7 minutes, Spike attempts a Dudley Dog on Test, who throws Spike over the top rope and through a table.  In return, he receives a Clothesline From Hell.
But Shane McMahon runs down and crowns Bradshaw with a steel chair, so WCW steals one.  58-54

WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Tajiri  vs  WCW Cruiserweight Champion X-Pac
This match is title vs title
these two guys seamlessly transitioned between sharp kicks, high flying, and intriguing submissions.
this goes about 7 1/2 minutes and the crowd loves everything about Tajiri.
Tajiri has X-Pac set up for the Buzzsaw Kick, but Albert jumps up to the apron.  Tajiri stops him with the Red Mist, but leaves himself open for an X-Factor.
X-Pac is once again a dual champion

Rhyno w/Stephanie McMahon  vs  Chris Jericho
did you know Rhyno is undefeated against Jericho? they tell us about a dozen times.
Jericho off the top rope towards Rhyno on the outside, but Rhyno catches him with a nifty spear on the way down
this match slows the pace way down, but isn't violent enough, technical enough, or interesting enough to overcome it.
We get about 12 decent minutes. Jericho sidesteps the GORE! and rolls into the Liontamer, forcing Rhyno to tap out.  58-55

Hardcore Title / Ladder Match:  Rob Van Dam  vs  Jeff Hardy (c)
these men beat the hell out of each other for 16 minutes.
if a regular hardcore match is like a car crash, then this is like bumper cars: 100 car crashes.
seriously, i can't fathom how much pain both of these guys must be in.
RVD gets the win, but that is almost an afterthought to the insanity. sheer craziness.  59-55

Steel Cage Match:  WWF Tag Champs Kanyon & DDP  vs  WCW Tag Champs Undertaker & Kane
This match is also titles vs titles
Kanyon & Page get a couple flashes of offense, but basically the Brothers of Destruction dominate.
after 7 minutes, UT & Kane allow Kanyon to escape. Then they proceed to decimate DDP for four more.
Undertaker pins DDP after a Last Ride.  59-56
i hope this puts an end to this one-sided DDP/Taker feud.

WWF Title:  Kurt Angle  vs  Steve Austin (c)
I'm surprised this isn't the main event. i feel like this has the most build and the highest stakes.
they brawl at ringside to start. Back in the ring, Angle delivers 7 German Suplexes.
Austin with a couple Stone Cold Stunners, and he beats Angle into a bloody mess, driving him in to the ringpost five or six times and a slew of punches and chops.
Angle snags an Ankle Lock on the outside, and in a neat moment, drags Austin foot-first into the middle of the ring.
They trade finishers for a bit, then Austin maliciously attacks a couple referees.
Angle with the Olympic Slam.  Nick Patrick out, and he calls for the bell. Austin retains, but Angle wins by DQ.  59-57
Angle decks Patrick and makes him tap out to the Ankle Lock

WCW Title:  Booker T (c)  vs  the Rock
Shane McMahon is a factor from the jump.  Rock fights off both men. He is insanely over.
decent enough match. felt a little flat after the hatred from the previous bout, however.
Shane clocks the Rock with the title belt, but APA down to ensure it doesn't happen again, as Bradshaw destroys Shane with the Clothesline From Hell
Booker with a Scissor Kick and a Spinaroonie, but the Rock pops up and Rock Bottoms him for the pin.  59-58

overall, this was a pretty decent show, even if every WWF guy looked unstoppable and almost every WCW guy looked out of their league (the exception being RVD). Seriously, we are damn near two months into this "Invasion" and the two biggest WCW names, Booker T and DDP, have a combined zero clean wins. Hell, all things considered, DDP has only three wins (one by DQ because Kane kicked his ass too much; one because Test, a WWF guy, defected; and the third because Christian, a soon-to-be WWF defector, got distracted).  Booker T is arguably even worse. As soon as the Rock returned, Booker became a bad Rock clone. He's now lost the WCW title twice and his biggest win is against DDP (when Undertaker distracted him).

the Canadian contingent continues to save these shows. Jericho, Edge, Christian, Storm, and even Rhyno are putting out interesting stuff.  Rob Van Dam always puts on a show. Tajiri is exciting the crowd is completely sold on everything he does.

Raw
8/20/01 @ Sacramento, CA
the Alliance is celebrating "Steve Austin Appreciation Night"
Lita, Molly, & Jacquelyn  vs  Stacy, Ivory, & Torrie
better than the SummerSlam match, but that's not saying much
Jackie Tornado DDTs Ivory for the win.  59-59

Rock promo time. He brings out a midget dressed as Booker T
APA, Show-Gunn, Scotty 2 Hotty, & Spike  vs  Dudleyz, Palumbo & O'Haire, Dreamer, and Hugh Morrus
Spike takes a beating. otherwise, Team WWF dominates.
fun ending as we get a finisher extravaganza, with everyone from both sides hitting their signature spots.  Ultimately, Big Show Chokeslams Tommy Dreamer for the finish.  59-60
Chris Jericho  vs  Test
not bad. Test wins after a Big Kick (and interference from Steph & Rhyno)  60-60
WCW Title:  Lance Storm  vs  Rock (c)
decent little match, but felt like there were no stakes here. Rock wins with a Rock Bottom.  60-61

European Title:  Christian  vs  Matt Hardy (c)
this was OK but too short. Good story, with Christian trying to win by any means necessary.
Matt retains after a Twist of Fate.
Booker T  vs  Tajiri
Booker T (in street clothes) beats the brakes off Tajiri and gets himself DQ'd.  60-62
Not as interesting as it sounds.
DDP  vs  Sara Taker
Undertaker beats up DDP pre-match and Sara gets the 3 count immediately after the bell.
well, this has to be a low point in this "feud" as well as DDP's career.  60-63
Austin Appreciation Ceremony
the whole Alliance is in the ring praising Austin and etc. Hurricane gives Steve a Green Lantern t-shirt.
they sing "The WInd Beneath Our Ring" which is more terrible than i even thought possible.
Angle invades in a milk truck, spraying down the ring in a moment reminiscent of Austin's beer truck a few years ago.

SmackDown!
8/23/01 @ Denver, CO
Hardcore Title:  Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Jeff Hardy
good match. Jeff Swantons (outside the ring) Swantons off a ladder through a table, and has to be taken to the back by EMTs.
Raven brings his own referee and attacks RVD.  Van Dam pins him after a Five Star Frog Splash.  well, that was unexpected.
Dudley Boyz  vs  Show-Gunn
Big Show misses an elbow from the top rope (!) but Chokeslams D-Von to score the upset.  60-64
Kurt Angle  vs  Kanyon (US Title not on the line)
pretty even and enjoyable match.  After an Olympic Slam, Kanyon taps to the Ankle Lock.  60-65
Rhyno, Test, & Booker T  vs  APA & Rock
match was pretty disjointed but a bit better than i expected.
Rhyno GORES! Faarooq and then Booker Scissor Kicks him for the win.  61-65

WWF Tag Team Titles:  Edge & Christian  vs  Undertaker & Kane (c)
Christian gets Edge's first IC Title defense cancelled in favor of this match.
Undertaker pins Christian after a Last Ride. Typical Taker match.
Lita  vs  Ivory
Ivory steals one after interference from Hurricane Helms.  62-65
Steve Austin  vs  Chris Jericho
Austin had agreed to a non-title match, but Commissioner Regal announces this is now for the WWF World Championship!
good match. Finish out of nowhere as they trade roll-ups but Austin holds the ropes.  63-65

Jakked 8/25
Crash Holly  vs  Funaki - Crash by Turnbuckle Bulldog
Raven  vs  Essa Rios
Rios gets draped over the top rope, so Raven DDTs him for the victory.  64-65

Wow, did WWF take a gigantic lead in the 24 hours period that was SummerSlam and Raw. Once again, WWF team dominates in their wins while WCW relies on thievery and former WWF guys.

weird match, everyone seemed to be out of position at all times. P&OH pin Crash after a big mess.  65-66
Chavo Guerrero, Jr.  vs  Spike Dudley
Spike via Dudley Dog. 65-67
Lance Storm  vs  Scotty 2 Hotty
Scotty taps to the Canadian Maple Leaf  66-67

Raw

Undertaker vs Albert
my video cut in and out on this one. Taker overcomes both Albert and X-Pac and wins via Chokeslam.
European Title:  Matt Hardy (c)  vs  Hurricane Helms
Helms has now become a superhero. JR scoffs at the new outfit, but gives Helms his props.
quick but decent match. Ivory pulls a Tanya Harding on Lita, then hits Matt in the ribs, leading to the Eye of the Hurricane and a new champ!  67-67
Test  vs  Bradshaw
hoss match. Shane's interference proves the difference, and Test wins with the Big Kick.  68-67
WCW World Title:  Rhyno  vs  Rock (c)
fun match. Rhyno GORES! the Rock on the outside to start, and continues to work over the midsection.
APA chase off Shane, and the Rock scores the pinfall after a Rock Bottom.  68-68
IC Title:  Edge (c)  vs  Hugh Morrus
ok match, but this was all about Christian. He joins us for commentary and plays at being conflicted over his brother's success.
Edge has this match in hand, but Christian interferes anyway, causing a DQ loss for the champ.  69-68
Booker T  vs  Big Show
either my video cut it out or Booker didn't get an entrance. i hope it's the former.
Big Show is wearing a Booker T wig and tries a spin-a-roonie to start. It doesn't go well (for him or for the audience).
Book gets himself DQ'd after walloping Show with a chair.  69-69
Chris Jericho & Kurt Angle  vs  Rob Van Dam & Tazz
good match. Jericho, RVD, and Tazz all work well together.
Angle gets the hot tag and becomes a wrecking ball.
Angle kicks out of the Five Star Frog Splash and breaks the Tazzmission into an Olympic Slam for the win. 69-70
post-match, Austin runs down and steals Angle's Gold Medals.

SmackDown!
8/30/01 @ Detroit, MI
Test & Dudleyz  vs  APA & Big Show
Team WWF dominates. Cool moment as D-Von and Test hoist Big Show up, with Bubba 3D'ing him.
Bradshaw with the Clothesline From Hell to D-Von for the win. 69-71

Undertaker  vs  Albert
rematch from Raw. much like that match, Taker overcomes the odds and fights off both Albert and X-Pac, who use a steel chair this time.  taker gets DQ'd for using the chair himself, but again leaves both men lying. despite the beatdown, Albert got more offense vs Taker in this match than DDP has in the last 3 months.

Rhyno & Rob Van Dam  vs  Chris Jericho & the Rock
RVD-Jericho segment is the highlight here.
Shane and Booker T interfere. Rock Bottom to RVD, but Rhyno with the GORE! and the upset. 70-71
US Title:  Edge  vs  Kanyon (c)
decent enough, wish it had been longer.  Christian inadvertently nails Edge with the US belt, leading to Kanyon retaining.  71-71
Spike Dudley & Molly Holly  vs  Hurricane Helms & Ivory
pretty good, as far as intergender matches go. Helms wins with the Eye of the Hurricane.  72-71
Tajiri  vs  Lance Storm
Torrie is enamored with Tajiri now.
Storm gets the surprise win after a Superkick. Not long enough to be great. 73-71
Booker T  vs  Kurt Angle
this was a good match with a trash finish, seeing interference from Shane and the Rock.
despite blatant interference on both sides, Angle gets the pin after a German suplex.  73-72
Austin has been taunting Kurt all night. Now he tosses the medals over a bridge.

Jakked 9/1/01
Billy Gunn  vs  Mike Awesome
this was enjoyable. Gunn via Fame-Ass-Er.  73-73
Scotty 2 Hotty  vs  Tommy Dreamer
quick and fun. Scotty wins after a WORM and a springboard DDT.  73-74
US Title:  Essa Rios  vs  Kanyon (c)
Kanyon retains in another good one. Jakked is on fire this week!  74-74
Dudley Boyz  vs  Kaientai
surprisingly entertaining.  Dudleyz by 3D.  75-74

I never realized how evenly they booked the win/loss records.

Maybe because the WCW guys were almost always made to look bad win lose or draw.

this is something that surprised me as well. all that being said, Taker, Angle, and Rock are all booked as being unstoppable. The only strong Alliance guys they have are paranoid cheating Austin and midcard RVD.

APA, Jericho, & Rock  vs  Rhyno, Dudley Boyz, & Booker T
We get four minutes before the finisher spamming begins.
In the end, Rhyno GORES! Jericho, who had Shane McMahon in the Walls. Booker pins Jericho for the win.  80-83

Rob Van Dam  vs  Steve Austin
easily the best match of the night. RVD's brawling style is a neat twist.
RVD lands the Van Daminator, but Austin rolls out of the way of the Five Star Frog Splash and hits a Stunner.
instead of a pin, Austin locks on the Ankle Lock.  Kurt Angle's music plays, distracting Austin long enough for RVD to roll him up and score a huge upset!

Light Heavyweight Title:  Chavo Guerrero, Jr.   vs  X-Pac (c)
decent match. X-Pac retains after an X-Factor.  80-86
Tommy Dreamer & Raven  vs  Kaientai
the announcers talk about Raven & Dreamers history as rivals.  Raven pins Funaki after an Evenflow DDT.  81-86

funny that we were just talking about how even the wins were and then WWF takes a good sized lead. I'm willing to bet that the gap just widens from this point on.
they teased an RVD-Raven feud a couple weeks ago but that has seemingly been dropped. definitely for the better of RVD.  Speaking of whom, this is the beginning of RVD's rise to the top of the card, as short-lived as that may be.  The crowd is already loving him.
Kronik debuting was a good surprise for me. i now remember they only came in for this feud as Undertaker didn't like working with them or something like that. I guess that's because they actually made him sell and take bumps, as opposed to everybody else he's faced in the last few months.

Christian picks up a victory by putting his feet on the ropes. quick but decent.
Team Extreme (Hardy Boys & Lita)  vs  Lance Storm, Hurricane Helms, & Ivory
Storm & Hurricane make a good team
match was going along well until Lita tagged in. She dominated Ivory
Matt Hardy gives Ivory the Twist of Fate and Lita sorta lands a moonsault for the win.  83-88
Dudley Boyz & Rhyno  vs  APA & Chris Jericho
this wasn't bad. the Dudleyz always deliver on their end.  More one-sided than i would've liked, though.
Bradshaw connects on Rhyno with the Clothesline From Hell, then Jericho with a Lionsault for the pinfall.  83-89
Undertaker  vs  Booker T
quick 3 minute fight but a good one.
Taker has Booker T set up for the Chokeslam, but Steven Richards runs in.
with Taker distracted, Book lands the Scissor Kick for a big pinall victory!  84-89
post-match, Richards & KroniK beat down Taker and give him the High Times through the announce table.
US Title:  Tajiri  vs  Kanyon
good match, i'd like to see these two given more time.
Torrie inadvertently (?) nails Tajiri with the title belt, but Kanyon only nets a two count.
Tajiri with the Green Mist and a Buzzsaw Kick to become the new champ!  84-90
Hardcore Title:  Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Kurt Angle
another good match.  this show really picked up in the 2nd half.
they brawl around ringside and up onto the stage.
RVD with some decent kicking offense by hanging off the rigging.
out of nowhere, Angle makes RVD tap to the Ankle Lock!  New champ!  84-91
As Angle raises his arms, Austin comes from behind and tosses him off the stage to the floor below.
Austin checks on RVD and then chucks him too.
RVD lands on Angle and a 3 count is made to regain his title.  85-91
Stephanie McMahon & Test  vs  the Rock
Steph stays on commentary most of the match.
Test and his anti-charisma dominate the majority of the contest.
Rock eventually catches Test with the Rock Bottom for the win.  85-92
the camera misses the finish because we're focused on Steph getting knocked off the apron.

SmackDown!
9/13/01 @ Houston, TX
this show was rescheduled from Tuesday 9/11 due to the Twin Tower attacks.
all of the superstars, WWF and Alliance, come out on the stage and ramp area.
Lillian Garcia sings the national anthem to a huge pop. this is going to be an interesting show.
throughout the show, the play candid clips of the wrestlers (and others) talking about the tragedy in New York. strange looking back on it 17 years later.
Hardy Boys  vs  Lance Storm & Hurricane
good match to get us started.  Hardys in control for most of it, but Hurricane does get in his cape-assisted top rope crossbody.
A Twist of Fate-Swanton Bomb combo to Lance Storm finishes it off.  85-93
Hardcore Title:  Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Spike Dudley
not much to this one. less than 3 minutes, but good for what it was.
RVD scores the pinfall after the Five Star Frog Splash.  86-93

Christian  vs  Chris Jericho
good i guess, but WAY too short.
Christian's Reverse DDT gets a close 2 count.  While he argues with the ref, Jericho rolls him up for 3.
Rock comes out and issues an open challenge.
Shawn Stasiak runs into the ring. Rock tosses him over the top rope and re-issues his challenge.  Stasiak repeats, with Rock doing the same.
then a long promo about pie and strudel.
Rock will give Stasiak a title shot later tonight if he'll shake hands.
hand shake, Rock Bottom, 3 count. well, that was a waste of time.  86-94

X-Pac & Albert  vs  APA
pretty nothing match. Clothesline From Hell to X-Pac and that's all she wrote.
Booker T  vs  Big Show
this was pretty decent. Booker avoids and counters Big Show's power offense.
Book with a chop block to set up the Scissor Kick, but only gets a 2 count.
A 2nd Scissor Kick nets the same.
as Show recovers, Book with a flipping leg drop and finally gets the 3 count. they really built some drama here.  87-94
Lita  vs  Ivory
pretty meh. Lita wins with a Twist of Fate followed by a moonsault.  87-95
Test & Dudley Boyz  vs  Scotty 2 Hotty, Tajiri, & William Regal
fine for what it was. gotta keep Test strong, so he Big Kicks Scotty for the win.  88-95
Rhyno  vs  Kurt Angle
pretty fun match, better than i expected.
Angle avoids the GORE! and scores the pin after an Olympic Slam.  88-96
post-match, Angle leads the crowd in a USA chant.

Metal  9/15
Scotty 2 Hotty  vs  Stasiak
the commentators bury Stasiak. Scotty wins by terrible DDT.  88-97
Hardcore Holly  vs  Tommy Dreamer
squash.  Holly by Alabama Jam.  88-98
Saturn  vs  Hugh Morrus
good action but both guys were obviously phoning it in.
Saturn avoids the moonsault and gets the win with the Credenza.  88-99
Mike Awesome & Justin Credible  vs  X-Pac & Albert
match is best when Awesome is in.  Announcers barely mention the Credible was in X-Factor just a couple months ago
of course, he loses via Baldo Bomb.  88-100

Team WWF with the clean sweep tonight!

we really are seeing the WWF take an obvious lead. Booker T looked damn good in his two matches this week. Rob Van Dam has skyrocketed to the top of the card, and patriotic Angle will definitely keep him super over.  Jericho seems to be on his way back down the card. He's looked really good all summer long, and didn't seem out of place mixing it up with Austin or anybody else. Hope this week was just a fluke.
how can WWF still not figure out a way to book Big Show? They seem to give him flashes of brilliance, but then he either jobs on the weekend shows or is in meaningless tag matches. This week really shows that if you let him go, you'll get solid matches. And he clearly is fine with making himself look like a fool. Maybe that's the issue in itself.  But he's a former WCW and WWF World Champion, and he hasn't been involved with this Invasion angle whatsoever. dude's 7'2", how do you lose him in the crowd?

HeAT 9/16/01
Tazz  vs  Crash Holly
Tazz by Tazzmission in a nothing match.  89-100
Raven & Justin Credible  vs  Kaientai
the rematch from a couple weeks ago that nobody cared about
TAKA gets his win back after a Michinoku Driver  89-101
Kanyon  vs  Saturn
this was quick but really fun. more of this, please!
they trade moves and counters until Saturn lands the Credunza for the 3 count!  89-102

Raw
9/17/01 @ Nashville, TN
WWF Tag Team Titles:  Undertaker & Kane (c)  vs  Dudley Boyz
note that although the Brothers of Destruction also hold the WCW Tag Titles, those titles are not on the line.
pretty solid match. Kronik interfere, High Times-ing Kane through a table and setting Taker up for the 3D, leading to new WWF Tag Champs!  90-102
Jeff Hardy  vs  Lance Storm
this was really good!  somehow, Storm's technical acumen matched Jeff's wild antics and really meshed fantastically.
Storm gets his knees up on a Swanton Bomb and then blocks a hurracanrana into the Canadian Maple Leaf crab for the surprise win!  91-102
Stasiak  vs  Saturn
more competitive than necessary.  Saturn's Credunza ultimately rules the day.  91-103
Raven & Terri send Moppy through the wood chipper.

Handicap Match:  Tazz  vs  Booker T & Shane McMahon
Shane hypes this as win-win: Book and himself get a handicap warmup match, and Tazz gets to take out his inner-Alliance frustration

decent for what it was.  Book & Shane win.
European Title:  Hurricane Helms (c)  vs  Spike Dudley
Hurricane attempts to recruit Molly to be his sidekick.  She declines.
But during the match, she accidentally (?) missile dropkicks Spike, allowing Helms to pick up the win.  92-103

US Title:  Christian  vs  Tajiri (c)
Christian looked good but Tajiri's flashes of offense were great
Christian grabs a steel chair.  Tajiri counters with the Green Mist, but he hits the ref by mistake, causing a DQ.
As Christian sets up a Con-Chair-To, Edge beats him down from behind.
Rhyno GORES! Tajiri on the entrance ramp, setting up their own match at Unforgiven.
Handicap Match:  Stephanie McMahon & Test  vs  the Rock
i didn't really pay much attention to this one, as they just did this match on the last SmackDown, plus we've already seen one handicap match tonight.
After biased refereeing AND a ref bump, Shane & Book heavily interfere.
the Rocks feels the Book End, and Stephanie makes the cover in a travesty.  93-103
Jericho & Angle  vs  RVD & Steve Austin
when Y2J brings the least to the table in a tag match, you've got a good thing going.
Austin's strong character work shines in this, as does Angle's crowd reactions.
match really felt like it could end at any time.
Angle catches a Stunner setup kick and turns it into an Olympic Slam for the 3 count.  93-104

SmackDown!
9/20/01 @ Memphis, TN
Austin promo to start.  He berates Torrie Wilson, but Tajiri runs down to make the save and gets beat down.  Angle comes down and they brawl.  Austin pulls back the protective mats and piledrives Angle onto the concrete floor.
After a commercial break, EMTs are still working on Angle and are just now stretchering him to the back.  Angle keeps saying "i can't feel my arms"
Hurricane & Lance Storm  vs  Big Show & Spike Dudley
good mix of styles produces a good, albeit short, match.
Big Show pulls his disappearing act, allowing Helms to pin Spike after the Eye of the Hurricane.  94-104
post-match, the Dudley Boyz suplex Big Show through a table.
KroniK  vs  Kaientai
30 seconds in, Brian Adams gives TAKA the F5. ha!
complete squash.  95-104

Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Raven
i guess the RVD-Raven rivalry isn't dead after all.  Nice bit of payoff afterall. This is a hardcore match, but the title is not on the line.
good match, although a bit to showcase-y.
RVD picks up the win after a 5 Star Frog Splash.
Saturn attacks Raven after the match, but Raven leaves him lying after an Evenflow DDT.
Edge  vs  Kanyon
Edge comes out to new music from Rob Zombie, off his upcoming album "the Sinister Surge". i've always found this hilarious, as the album is actually called "Sinister Urge".
the match itself was decent, but i was hoping for more from these two.
Christian mistakenly spears Kanyon, and Edge with the DDT for the win.  95-105
Hardy Boys  vs  Dudley Boyz (c)
another non-title match. solid match, as you'd expect from these two teams.
Hardys steal a win after interference from Lita and Spike Dudley.  95-106
WWF Title:  Steve Austin (c)  vs  Tajiri
not much to this, which is a shame.  Austin dominates and wins via Stunner in about 3 minutes.  96-106
As Austin sets up Tajiri for a piledriver, Angle comes out on the entrance ramp.  So much for the whole 'paralyzed' bit when he returns after an hour.
Elimination Match:  Booker T, Test, & Rhyno  vs  APA & the Rock
Rock cuts a great promo backstage, It was high energy, passionate, and inspired by Jerry Lee Lewis, who was apparently in the crowd.
Shane hits Bradshaw with a steel chair. Book lands a Scissor Kick and Bradshaw is out.
Rhyno's GORE! plus Test's Big Kick eliminate Faarooq.
Rock pins Rhyno after a DDT.
Rock takes a 2-on-1 beating, but Rock Bottoms Test to even the odds.
Rather than face the Rock head-to-head, Booker T leaves for the back and gets counted out.  96-107
they've been hyping that there's no way Rock can beat two men at Unforgiven, but in the go home show he beats three.

Jakked/Metal  9/22/01
Crash Holly  vs  Justin Credible
Crash with a top rope cross body, but Justin rolls through and grabs the tights for the win.  97-107
Billy Gunn  vs  Chuck Palumbo
is this where the epic romance begins?
match wasn't bad, but wasn't good either.  Gunn by Fame-Ass-Er.  97-108
Albert  vs  Kanyon
Albert basically dominates and wins by Baldo Bomb.  97-109
APA  vs  Mike Awesome & Hugh Morrus
match is fine until Bradshaw tags in and just no sells everything and pins Morrus after a Clothesline From Hell.  97-110

Sunday Night Heat (International Version) 9/23/01
i can't find video of this, so here's the results courtesy of The History of WWE:

Quote

Mike Awesome pinned Crash Holly with the Awesome Bomb
Billy Gunn pinned Tommy Dreamer with the Fameasser
Scotty 2 Hotty pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. with a DDT off the top
The Hurricane & Lance Storm (w/ Ivory) defeated the Big Show & Spike Dudley (w/ Molly Holly) when Hurricane pinned Spike; the Dudley Boyz attacked Show & Spike after the match
Kronik (w/ Steven Richards) defeated Taka Michinoku & Sho Funaki following the double chokeslam on Taka

WCW 100 - WWF 112

overall a pretty solid week. Austin's character work still is one of the best things on the show, although there hasn't been any development in a few weeks so we're just treading water right now.  It was good to see the Alliance get some much-needed wins, particularly Lance Storm beating Jeff Hardy clean on Raw.  the Rock continues to be shown to be completely unstoppable unless 5 people are against him.  No way does anybody think Booker T has a chance on Sunday.
Many of the matches for Unforgiven seem thrown together. There's a Fatal 4-Way for the WWF Tag Team championships that was booked on SmackDown (hence the two random tag matches).  Rhyno vs Tajiri was set up Monday night, but there was no follow-up on Thursday. Also, quite a step down for Rhyno to go from being in the main event mix to the US Title vs Tajiri, even if Tajiri is crazy over.
Kronik being booked strong is a breath of fresh air for the Alliance. don't expect it to last long.

Unforgiven
9/23/01 @ Pittsburgh, PA

HeAT match:  Billy Gunn  vs  Tommy Dreamer
fairly competitive match. Gunn via Fame-Ass-er.  100-113

WWF Tag Team Titles / Elimination Match:  Hardy Boys  vs  Hurricane Helms & Lance Storm  vs  Big Show & Spike Dudley  vs  Dudley Boyz (c)
the WCW teams isolate Spike and keep the advantage for quite a while.  Hot tag to Big Show who cleans house. crowd loses their minds when Show teases a top rope dive to the outside.
Show Chokeslams Lance Storm for the first fall.
Matt Hardy with the Twist of Fate to Spike shortly thereafter.
Dudleyz keep the advantage over Jeff Hardy early. Tag to Matt, and the odds even out.
D-Von fights out of the Twist of Fate and the Dudleyz with a 3D. Jeff stops the count with a Swanton Bomb, but a Bubba Bomb on Matt leads to the Dudleyz retaining.  101-113
Pretty decent 15 minute match to open the card. quick action kept the crowd entertained.

Raven  vs  Saturn
this match is fast paced and fun.  The announcers bring up the two men's history in ECW and WCW and even discuss the Raven's Flock angle from 1997. nice touch.
solid, if meaningless, match that is worth checking out.
after 5 minutes, Saturn's 3-Handled Credunza nets him the win.  101-114

InterContinental Title:  Christian  vs  Edge (c)
this was a technically good match that i quite enjoyed, but they never quite made it as hate-filled as the commentary would imply.
i'm more of a Christian fan, but without a doubt Edge seems like the bigger deal.
After about 12 minutes, Christian tires of Edge's advantage so attempts a Con-Chair-To. Edge counters and has finally had enough so tries one of his own.  Christian low-blows Edge with the chair to steal the victory and the title.

WCW Tag Team Titles:  KroniK  vs  Undertaker & Kane (c)
Taker/Kane have about 60% of the offense. Not a particularly great match, but not terrible.
After about 10 minutes of brawling, Taker chokeslams Bryan Clarke for the pin.  101-115
i feel like Taker and Adams were seeing who could take less bumps. Taker wins, but not by much.

Hardcore Title:  Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Chris Jericho
this match was fantastic and a textbook example of elevating both men.
they start out with a version of an "even stevens" sequence which works pretty well and doesn't come off as pandering.
Each man has their signature spots countered or avoided, which really played up the evenness here. the "well-scouted" line feels legit for the first time in forever.
A ladder comes into play. As Jericho is wailing on RVD with a chair, Steph distracts him long enough for RVD to slip in a Van Daminator.  He follows that up with a Five Star Frog Splash for a well deserved victory.  102-115

WCW World Title / Handicap Match:  Shane McMahon & Booker T  vs  the Rock (c)
i could've done without this match. Shane's offense was at its worst. Booker has been built up as second rate.  This match goes around 16 minutes, which was way too long.
We see blatant weapon use, interference from Test, biased refereeing, a re fight, TWO ref bumps, and Rock overcoming the insurmountable odds.
Surprise, Surprise, Rock wins with a Rock Bottom.  102-116

US Title:  Rhyno  vs  Tajiri (c)
match is solid but at only 5 minutes, it could've been more.  Crowd is pretty quiet, which is surprising.
Rhyno tries to GORE! Torrie, but Tajiri nails him with a Buzzsaw Kick.
He only gets a 2 count so tries again, but this time Rhyno ducks it and counters with a throwing suplex.  This allows Rhyno to GORE! Tajiri in his injured ribs and capture the title.  103-116

WWF World Title:  Kurt Angle  vs  Steve Austin (c)
Angle gets a hero's welcome and attacks Austin on the stage to get things started quick.
Angle basically dominates the first 6-7 minutes brawling around the arena.
Angle pulls back the mats on the floor, exposing the concrete. Austin tries to piledrive Angle, but it's blocked with a back body drop. Austin with a front suplex, draping Angle over the announce table.
Austin keeps control for a few minutes, mostly focusing on Angle's injured neck.
Angle stunners Austin for 2. Austin returns the favor with an Olympic Slam for 2.
Austin goes for the Stunner, but Angle catches the kick and turns it into the Ankle Lock. Austin taps out! new champ! Crowd erupts.  103-117
the Angle family and Team WWF celebrate in the ring.
decent match with an emotional finish, but at 24 minutes felt a bit too long, especially for someone who was essentially paralyzed on Thursday.

this was a good card (excepting the Rock-Book match), but basically everything seemed obvious. the Edge/Christian and Rhyno/Tajiri matches were the only ones where there was some doubt as to the outcome. Is this it for Kronik? i can't remember if they stick around any longer than this single PPV appearance. They are the only guys from WCW that feel like a threat right now.

Raw
9/24/01 @ Columbus, OH
Undertaker, Kane, & Bradshaw  vs  Dudley Boyz & Test
Test looked strong. Team WWF dominated.
Taker pins D-Von after a powerbomb.  103-118
Tajiri w/Torrie  vs  Tazz w/Stacy
this is more in a stacy-torrie feud than the men themselves
stacy distracts tajiri with a liplock, allowing Tazz to lock on the Tazzmission.
US Title:  Rhyno (c)  vs  Jeff Hardy
not a bad match. Rhyno had a particularly swift snap to him tonight
Jeff was all over the place and IMO it detracted a bit from the match.
Rhyno with the GORE! as Jeff comes off the top rope to retain.  105-118
Hurricane Helms, Lance "Ice" Storm, & Ivory  vs  Big Show, Spike Dudley, & Molly Holly
match was all over the place and never really clicked for me.
Molly pins Lance Storm after a Molly-Go-Round off the Big Show's shoulders.  105-119
WWF World Title:  Kurt Angle (c)  vs  Booker T
very good match. Booker focuses his attack on Angle's injured neck.
a ref bump and a shot from the title belt and it looks like Booker will steal a win, but Angle kicks out.
Angle rolls and grabs a leg to secure the Ankle Lock for the victory.  105-120

IC Title:  Christian (c)  vs  Chris Jericho
solid match cut short as Christian nails Jericho with the ring bell, getting himself DQ'd.
post-matc, Jericho avoids the Con-Chair-To and makes Christian tap to the Liontamer.
Matt Hardy  vs  Kanyon
above average match but nothing amazing. Kanyon's offense is fantastic.
Hardy goes for the Twist of Fate, but Kanyon shoves him away, knocking Lita off the apron.
this distracts Matt, allowing Kanyon to hit the Flatliner and score the upset.  106-120
a new DDP vignette. he's doing the motivational speaker thing. ugh.
WCW World Title:  Rob Van Dam  vs  the Rock (c)
if you told me a year ago that RVD would face the Rock, and it would be for the WCW title, i would think you were crazy.
this match was quite good. these two actually complement each other really well
very back-and-forth. Stephanie distracts the Rock, leading to an RVD nearfall.
but RVD gets knocked off the top rope and catches a Rock Bottom for his troubles.  106-121
this loss doesn't hurt RVD at all. well played.

SmackDown!
9/27/01 @ Dayton, OH

WCW Tag Team Titles:  Undertaker & Kane (c)  vs  Booker T & Test
this match caught me off guard by getting a good amount of time and being competitive.
Test is matched up evenly with Taker, something that we haven't seen in what feels like forever.
A ref bump, interference from Shane, and a chair shot to Taker leads to Booker picking up the (very tainted) win! new champs!  107-121
Hardy Boys  vs  Rhyno & Kanyon
this match is all about how awesome the Hardys are. they basically dominate the entirety with Matt landing the Twist of Fate on Kanyon fro the win.  107-122

Big Show  vs  X-Pac
two former -and future- nWo members face off.
despite heavy interference from Albert, Show dominates X-Pac and wins via Chokeslam

Hardcore Title:  Rob Van Dam (c)  vs  Chris Jericho
Stephanie books this Unforgiven rematch so Jericho can take more punishment? that doesn't make any sense.
hell of a match again, so who am i to complain?
Steph saves RVD from tapping out. she gets bumped for her actions.
RVD takes advantage of the situation with a Van Daminator to retain once again.  108-122
Molly Holly  vs  Ivory
pretty mediocre match. Molly and Ivory clash heads coming out of the corner, and Ivory pins Molly.  huh?  109-122
Hurricane swoops down to ringside and heroically saves Molly, with the two of them riding off on the HurriCycle.

IC Title:  Bradshaw  vs  Christian (c)
Bradshaw beats the hell out of Christian and they fight to the back.

Christian gets in his limo to escape, but Edge was waiting for him in there and beats him up some more. no contest i guess?
WWF Tag Team Titles:  WWF Champ Kurt Angle & WCW Champ the Rock  vs  Dudley Boyz (c)
Michael Cole tells us multiple times that the two world champs teaming up to compete for the tag titles is a dream match. not in my bubble i guess.
finish was overbooked (no way!) with interference from Shane, Booker, & Test.
Dudleyz put both men through tables as the show ends. Never heard an official call, so this must be our second no contest in a row? ok.

Jakked  9/29
Kaientai  vs  Chuck Palumbo & Tommy Dreamer
Chuck Jungle Kicks TAKA for the win.  110-122
Hugh Morrus  vs  Billy Gunn
i feel like this happened a week or two ago, but i'm too lazy to double check. (
edit: i checked. 7/20, Gunn > Morrus)
Gunn via Fame-Ass-Er, in a closer match than i expected.  110-123
Mike Awesome  vs  Albert
decent little match here. Albert fights out of the Awesome Bomb to deliver the Baldo Bomb for the win.  110-124
Raven  vs  Scotty 2 Hotty
fun match. Scotty with the WORM, then sets on up on Terri, but Raven breaks it up and Evenflows Scotty for the win.  111-124

  • 2 weeks later...

apologies, all. apparently i forgot to post last week's results/thoughts/insights. Well, here goes the first of a double helping:

HeAT 9/30
Lance Storm  vs  Billy Gunn
decent match. Storm works over the leg for a good portion of it.
Storm avoids the Fame-Ass-Er and immediately lockson the Maple Leaf Crab for the win.  112-124
Mike Awesome  vs  Spike Dudley
Awesome totally dominates Spike. He goes for a top rope Awesome Bomb, but gets Hurracanrana'd and Spike scores the upset.  112-125
Raven  vs  Saturn
good enough match, but a definite step down from their previous encounters.  Raven via Evenflow after Terri distracts Saturn  113-125
Tazz & Stacy  vs  Tajiri & Torrie
Tajiri superkicks Tazz for the win.  113-126

Raw
10/1/18 @ Baton Rouge, LA
European Title: Spike Dudley  vs  Hurricane Helms (c)
ok match. Mike Awesome interferes which leads to Helms retaining.  114-126
Molly is now Hurricane's sidekick.  I feel like this is underplayed.
Booker T, Test, & RVD  vs  Chris Jericho, Undertaker, & Kane
this was all over the place and felt very disjointed.
Taker with a huge Last Ride powerbomb on Test and Jericho puts Booker in the Walls, but RVD pins Jericho after a top rope sidekick and a roll-through.  115-126
WCW World Title / Handicap Tables Match:  Dudley Boyz  vs  the Rock (c)
you may not believe this, but the Rock overcame a biased referee, the tag team champs, interference from Shane McMahon, and being driven through a table illegally to Rock Bottom Bubba through a table to retain.  115-127
Tajiri & Torrie  vs  Tazz & Stacy
just as bad as it was last night on HeAT.
this time, Ivory DDTs Torrie and the Alliance picks up the win.  116-127
Lance Storm  vs  William Regal
only goes a couple minutes and Storm taps out to the Regal Stretch.  what a waste.  116-128
WWF World Title:  Shane McMahon  vs  Kurt Angle (c)
not that great and went on too long.  i say this as a huge fan of their KotR match.
Angle makes Shane tap out.  116-129

SmackDown!  10/4/01 @ Mobile, AL
Christian, X-Pac, & Albert  vs  Edge & APA
decent enough.  Edge DDTs Albert to score the pinfall.
Big Show & Spike  vs  Hurricane & Mike Awesome
pretty fun. Big Show dominates both men. Spike with a splash from Show's shoulders for the win.  116-130
Rob Van Dam  vs  Kurt Angle
-if RVD wins, Steve Austin  vs  Angle on Raw for the WWF Title
if Angle wins, Angle vs the Rock on Raw for WCW Title
Angle gets busted in the face and is bleeding from the mouth.
decent match until the shenanigans at the end.
Angle gets a visible pin after the Olympic Slam, but the ref is pulled outside.
Angle makes RVD tap to the Ankle Lock, but there's no ref.
Shane McMahon hits Angle with a chair and RVD steals one.  117.130

Tazz  vs  Maven
tazz beats the hell out of maven. maven has a good dropkick, but a Tazzmission ends it.
Kane  vs  Booker T
pretty good hard-hitting match-up between these two.
Test nails Kane on the outside, setting him up for the Scissor Kick and a Booker T win.  118-130
Dudley Boyz & Nick Patrick  vs  Mike Chioda, Jericho, & the Rock
this started out OK and got progressively worse.
the Dudleyz isolate Jericho. hot tag to the Rock and he cleans house.
Our closing moment is Chioda doing the People's Elbow to Nick Patrick for the pin.  118-131

Jakked 10/6
Tommy Dreamer  vs  Billy Gunn
pretty nothing match. Gunn by Fame-Ass-Er  118-132
Scotty 2 Hotty  vs  Justin Credible
Scotty won this one with ease. His shitty leaping DDT ends it.  118-133
Crash Holly  vs  Raven
Raven by Evenflow DDT.  more comedic and even than i expected.  119-133
Kanyon & Chuck Palumbo  vs  Hardy Boys
Hardys dominate this match.
Kanyon abandons Palumbo and heads to the back.
Palumbo loses after the trifects: Litacanrana, Twist of Fate, Swanton Bomb.  119-134

HeAT  10/7
Chuck Palumbo  vs  Billy Gunn
rematch from Metal, 9/23. Insert another "BillY & Chuck" joke here.
decent enough. Gunn sets up for the Fame-Ass-Er, but Palumbo with the Jungle Kick to score the upset.  120-134
Tommy Dreamer  vs  Tajiri
rematch from HeAT, 9/9
entertaining but meaningless. Tajiri via Buzzsaw Kick.  120-135
Perry Saturn & Scotty 2 Hotty  vs  Raven & Justin Credible
Scotty has a gift for Saturn.......Moppy 2 Hotty!
pretty basic stuff. Scotty pins Credible.  120-136
Kanyon, Lance Storm, & Ivory  vs  Lita & Hardy Boys
Hardys by Twist of Fate/Swanton Bomb combination. As if that was ever in doubt.  120-137

Raw
10/8/01 @ Indianapolis, IN
Good Ol' JR pulls a Schiavone and tells us this is the biggest night in Raw history
Dudley Boyz & Tazz  vs  Tajiri, Big Show, & Spike
match goes like a minute. Tajiri Buzzsaw Kicks Tazz for the win.  120-138
Stacy, now the Duchess of Dudleyville, instructs the Dudleyz to SuperBomb Torrie through a table.
this was all to hype up Torrie vs Stacy at the next PPV.
WCW Tag Team Titles:  Booker T & Test (c)  vs  Hardy Boys
Hardys pretty much dominate.
Undertaker powerbombs Booker T and the Hardys win the titles!  120-139
US Title:  Rhyno (c)  vs  Edge
Edge has the match well in hand. Christian interferes, causing a DQ.  120-140
Edge chases both men away.
RVD & Shane McMahon  vs  Jericho & the Rock
crowd is insane for the entirety of this one. good match, too.
Jericho accidentally nails the Rock with a chair, and RVD pins Rock for the win.  121-140
Can Jericho and the Rock ever co-exist again?
Lita  vs  Mighty Molly
Molly looks good here. and she scores a win with a rolling bridge pin.  122-140
WWF World Title:  Steve Austin  vs  Kurt Angle (c)
the Alliance is barred from ringside.
match starts out very quick. A couple nice callbacks (catching the Stunner setup kick, working the ringpost, pulling back the floor mats) really make this a continuation of a feud rather than just a random match.
match gets REALLY good about 10 minutes in. Just great work from both men.
Commissioner Regal clocks Angle with the title belt, but Angle kicks out at 2!
But he doesn't kick out of a Stunner. Austin is the new champ!   123-140

SmackDown!
10/11/18 @ Moline, IL
hey, i was at this show! i have zero memories of it.
Linda McMahon fires William Regal as the WWF Commissioner

WWF Tag Team Titles:  Dudley Boyz (c)  vs  Big Show & Spike Dudley
pretty decent match. Dudleyz isolate Spike and score a 3d for the win.  124-140
WCW CruiserWeight Title:  Billy Kidman  vs  X-Pac (c)
this match was quite good. fast paced and exciting
Kidman gets a big win and captures the gold after a sort of top rope pancake.  125-140
I can't help but think this would've meant a lot more if X-Pac wasn't treated like a jobber lately, or if Kidman (returning after a knee injury 2 months ago) had any sort of build up.
#1 WCW Title Contender:  Chris Jericho  vs  Rob Van Dam
another very enjoyable match. good back-and-forth action.
Austin runs down and clocks RVD with a chair, allowing Jericho to pick up the win. But did he mean to, or was he aiming for Jericho?

Mick Foley, new WWF Commish, books Angle  vs  Austin  vs  RVD at No Mercy
European Title:  Hurricane Helms (c)  vs  Kane
fun match. Kane dominates until Booker T & Test interfere, causing a DQ.  125-142

Tazz  vs  Maven
rematch from last week's Thunder. Maven does better, but still loses via Tazzmission.
William Regal  vs  Kurt Angle
fun while it lasted.
Angle mostly dominates. Alliance b-team interference, but Angle takes them all out.  No Contest.

post-match (not on TV, legitimately my only memory from the show):
the Rock helps Angle fight off the Alliance, and Rock convinces Angle to do the "strudel" gesture. why i remember this, i have no idea.

Metal  10/13
Hugh Morrus  vs  Crash Holly
hey, a face-off of guys who wrestled under the name "Crash" at some point.
not a bad match. Morrus misses the moonsault, then kicks out of a Tornado DDT.
Crash off the top rope, but Morrus rolls through and holds the tights to steal one.  126-142
Kanyon  vs  Billy Gunn
pretty decent.  some good counters, but Gunn with a pinfall after the Fame-Ass-Er.  126-143
Steven Richards  vs  Albert
exactly what you'd expect. Albert by Baldo Bomb.  126-144
Mike Awesome & Chuck Palumbo  vs  APA
fun enough match. not as one-sided as i expected. Clothesline From Hell to Awesome finishes this week.  126-145

HeAT 10/14
US Title:  Rhyno (c)  vs  Tajiri
solid match. Tajiri's kicks were especially on point tonight.
Tajiri avoids the GORE! and locks on the Tarantula. He refuses to let go, leading to a DQ. 127-145
Lance Storm  vs  Saturn
very good match. i could watch this all day. Storm with a surprise superkick for the win.  128-145
WCW Tag Team Titles:  Raven & Justin Credible  vs  Hardy Boys (c)
this time it's Raven on the receiving end of the Team Extreme Trifecta for a successful Hardys retention.  128-146
Booker T  vs  Edge
very good match and super hot crowd.
Christian interferes, leaving Edge open for a Scissor Kick and the pinfall.  129-146

Raw
10/15/01 @ Ottawa, ON
i found some pre-show dark matches online for this event, so here's a bonus!
-Steven Richards  vs  Crash Holly- decent match, good comedy bits. Crash by Bulldog.
-Chuck Palumbo  vs  Perry Saturn- this was...... OK at best. Saturn by Credunza.
-Tommy Dreamer  vs  Albert- not bad. Baldo Bomb for the finish to give WWF three straight victories that don't count!
Dudley Boyz  vs  Big Show
Big Show is dominant.
Stacy distracts Big Show and Bubba clocks him with a title belt for the win.  130-146
post-match, Tajiri makes the save and Show chokeslams Bubba through a table.
Hurricane, Lance Storm, & Mighty Molly  vs  APA & Jacquelyn
i don't think Team APA took a single bump.
APA dominates and Bradshaw clotheslines Helms for the win.  130-147
WCW World Title:  Rob Van Dam  vs  the Rock (c)
surprisingly, Chris Jericho on commentary adds very little.
match is very solid, but i think i liked their match 2 weeks ago better.
RVD grabs a chair. Rhyno GORES! the Rock behind the referee's back.
As Van Dam sets up the 5 Star Frog Splash, Jericho shoves him off the top rope a causes a DQ.  131-147

Tazz  vs  Billy Kidman
Tazz gets a lot of screen time for having no significant role.
Kidman gets the win here in a match nobody cares about.

Non-US Title Match:  Rhyno (c)  vs  Chris Jericho
another good match between these two.
picks up steam leading to the finish, which sees Jericho put Rhyno in the Walls of Jericho.....
....and then the Alliance attacks, causing a DQ.  131-148
Rock makes the save, then Rock Bottoms Jericho.

Edge  vs  X-Pac
this had a couple moments but overall was just OK.
Edge wins clean with a DDT.
Christian officially joins the Alliance. a pretty decent swerve with JR telling Edge that his mother was in an accident. It was all a ruse for Christian and his new buddies to attack him.
Booker T & Steve Austin  vs  Kurt Angle & Undertaker
match itself was solid but nothing to write home about.
ref bump, interference from Test, a shot from a title belt, a 2nd ref bump, and finally RVD's Frog Splash to Angle nets Steve Austin the pin.  132-148

SmackDown!
10/18/18 @ Montreal, QB

Hurricane, Lance Storm, & Mighty Molly  vs  Hardy Boys & Lita
decent enough. Ivory interferes, allowing Helms to pin Jeff after the Eye of the Hurricane.  133-148
APA steal the HurriCycle. Faarooq has to ride in the sidecar, for those keeping score at home.

Tazz  vs  Maven
third week in a row. Tazz dominates, gets distracted by Nidia, and Maven wins by roll-up. who cares?

Kane & Undertaker  vs  Booker T & Test
this wasn't bad. went longer than i expected.
Taker has Booker up for the Last Ride, but Test Big Kicks him for the finish.  134-148
D-Von Dudley  vs  Tajiri
fine but unmemorable.
Tajiri gets 3D'd but D-Von eats a Big Show Chokeslam. Tajiri is able to make the cover for the win.  134-149
Jericho & Rock  vs  Raven & Justin Credible
they've been hyping up if Jericho and Rock can co-exist in this match tonight, but never mentioned their opponents. Now i see why.
Jericho takes out all 3 with a chair. match never gets started.
Rob Van Dam  vs  Kurt Angle
good solid match with a hot crowd
fairly evenly matched. Kurt catches a foot in the face and gets busted open (seems to happen to a lot of RVD's opponents)
Angle with a couple German Suplexes, the Olympic Slam, and locks on the Ankle Lock.
Steve Austin runs down a Stunners Angle, presumably causing a DQ. 134-150.  Then he tosses RVD out of the ring.
Angle fights back, both men down. RVD with the Frog Splash to Steve Austin as Vince McMahon cheers him on.

Metal 10/20
Raven & Credible  vs  Kaientai
TAKA pins Raven after a roll-up in a quick fun one.  134-151
Mike Awesome  vs  Scotty 2 Hotty
Awesome catches Scotty coming off the top rope with a powerslam for a big finish.  135-151
Test  vs  Billy Gunn
better than i expected. Test by Big Kick.  136-151
WCW Tag Team Titles:  Kanyon & Hugh Morrus  vs  Hardy Boys (c)
started off by-the-numbers, turned into a pretty good match by the end.
Hardys retain with the Twist of Swanton combo on Kanyon.  136-152

HeAT 10/21 (international version)
once again, footage isn't available, so results courtesy The History of WWE:

Quote

Rhyno pinned Billy Gunn with the Gore as Gunn came off the middle turnbuckle
WWF Light Heavyweight Champion X-Pac pinned Crash Holly
Scotty 2 Hotty pinned Steven Richards with the Worm

Final Score leading in to No Mercy:  Team WCW 137 - Team WWF 153

WWF No Mercy
10/21/01 @ St. Louis, MO

HeAT Match:  Kanyon & Hugh Morrus  vs  APA
APA dominates this 3 1/2 minute match and Bradshaw clotheslines Kanyon to win.  137-154

HeAT Match:  WCW Cruiserweight Title:  Scotty 2 Hotty  vs  Billy Kidman (c)
a 2 minute match that sees Kidman retain with a backslide and his feet on the ropes.  138-154

WCW Tag Team Titles:  Hardy Boys (c)  vs  Hurricane Helms & Lance Storm
good match, as we've come to expect from these teams.
we see 6 1/2 minutes of solid action.  Plus interference from Ivory, Molly, and Lita.
Hardys retain after a Twist of Swanton on Helms.  138-155
I hope this rivalry is about over. the matches are good but it's the same thing every single time.

Test  vs  Kane
total brawl early. Test and Kane are going toe-to-toe
Test uses a ring bell right in front of referee Nick Patrick and does not get DQ'd, much to JR's chagrin
Kane kicks out of Test's Pumphandle Slam. And a top rope elbow drop.
Test attempts to use a chair but it gets dropkicked into his own face.
Kane goes for the chair, but Nick Patrick distracts him. Test's Big Kick ends the match.  139-155
post-match, Kane chokeslams Patrick. twice. and powerbombs him for good measure, too.

Lingerie Match:  Stacy Keibler  vs  Torrie Wilson
i don't remember it ever being explicitly stated, but i believe Torrie is not with the Alliance anymore.
this 'match' is exactly what you'd expect. Torrie pins Stacy.  139-156

InterContinental Title / Ladder Match:  Christian (c)  vs  Edge
they start off brawling around ringside.
finally making it into the ring and we see the standard ladder spots.
then we start seeing the really crazy stuff. bumps ON ladders, bumps OFF ladders, these two have to both be in a world of hurt.
Christian is climbing between two ladders when Edge low blows him with a chair. Nice callback to Unforgiven.
Edge delivers a one man Con-Chair-To with Christian lying on top of the ladders, then snatches the belt to once again become the IC Champ.  crazy 22 minutes.  139-157

WWF Tag Team Titles:  Dudley Boyz (c)  vs  Big Show & Tajiri
very good match with a bit of a messy finish.
Dudleyz isolate Tajiri for a good portion of the match, but Big Show has his moments as well.
the Referee gets Green Misted by mistake, which opens up the opportunity for Rhyno to GORE! Big Show.
A Buzzsaw Kick to D-Von, but the ref is still out of it.
Dudleyz come back with a 3D to retain the titles.  140-157

Booker T  vs  Undertaker
JR has taken to calling 'Taker "Booger Red", whatever that means.
Booker gets things started by attacking Taker on the ramp.
match gets a lot more time than i expected and was actually competitive to boot.
Book seemingly has the match in hand but gets overconfident and gets Last Ride Powerbombed for his mistake.  140-158

WCW World Title:  Chris Jericho  vs  the Rock (c)
this is an excellent match. I know Jericho praises this feud, and this match in particular, and for good reason.
the storyline going in is that Jericho is a 'choke artist' who 'can't win the big one'
this goes about 24 minutes of pure action with very little downtime.
Jericho pulls out all the stops and really busts his ass here.
Rock is no slouch either. He's been on a roll lately, particularly this and the RVD matches. Maybe it's the variety in opponents.
Jericho with a Rock Bottom and a Lionsault, but only gets a two count
Rock puts Y2J through the Spanish Announce Table with a Rock Bottom
Jericho counters the People's Elbow into the Walls of Jericho in a nice sequence.
Stephanie, chair in hand, distracts both Jericho and then Rock
Jericho takes advantage with a full nelson facebuster on the chair to WIN the title!
a long time coming for Jericho to finally become a world champion.

WWF World Title / No DQ:  Kurt Angle  vs  Rob Van Dam  vs  Steve Austin (c)
Angle takes both men to Suplex City early.
they work together to beat down Angle, but that teamwork breaks down quickly.
this match falls into the trap of only ever really having two men in the ring at any given time.
we do get a sequence of finisher, pinfall attempt, break by participant #3 from each guy.
Vince makes his way down at about 11 minutes and hits Austin with a chair (first time the No DQ rule has had an effect).
Shane runs down after 14 and attacks Angle.
Vince and Shane brawl, which allows Austin to Stunner RVD  and remain WWF champ.  141-158.
the ending came pretty abruptly on this one, but i guess it worked.

overall a pretty strong showing here. Jericho/Rock easily gets Match of the Night.  The Ladder Match was also fantastic. i could do without more McMahon involvement in BOTH of the main events. somebody should check on the Undertaker. he's sold more in the last month than he has in the previous 4 combined. i continue to be befuddled by Test's nonstop push. With this event, we now enter the final month of the InVasion. the countdown has begun!
