A really enjoyable first disc that covered the first 4 years of the decade. It's sad how little footage is available from the era when you see the quality of the top wrestlers. There would've been many fine matches that will never be enjoyed by future generations of fans. Contrast that with the thousands of hours of crap that wrestling companies across the world churn out these days.

These may change, especially after I watch some of these matches again but the top 3 are pretty much locked. I did watch match number 9 again and while it wasn't easy to follow every moment the crazy finish and truly wild violence really make it stand out. This seems like a pretty good year for lucha going by what we have and Satanico has a pretty good case for WOTY.

I dug the El Santo tributes in the extras section. That one match looked awesome with just the highlights. Anyways, this disc was very good overall. The first half was a little underwhelming but MS-1-Chicana opened things up and now it's looking like the potential for an extraordinary set. 

 

MVP: Sangre Chicana - This guy is one of the best sellers of all time. Incredible performer. 

 

Honorable Mention: Gran Hamada - He had a great brawl and a great title match. Variation is a big plus in my book and Hamada has that on the little time he is on this set.

It's hard for me to give official write up reviews for the Lucha matches as I'm very unfamiliar w/ most of these workers, with the exception of a handful of workers on the set I can't recall ever seeing any of these guy's, I don't speak or understand spanish either so for this set I will just rank my matches, hope that is acceptable...

This was a really good disc. The top four or five matches were really great. This is looking to be one of the better sets out so far. 

 

MVP: Mocho Cota - This guy is world class level in pretty much every category but he doesn't have any footage past basically what we have on this set. He's an all time level talent from what I've seen.

 

Honorable mention: Herodes - He's been a nice gem from this set. He's a great muscle in trios for the rudos and his brawls with Tony Salazar were awesome. Very good worker.

I'm relatively new in the sense that I've seen only the pimped matches from the last two years and did a couple of binge viewings in the last two years as well. I'm definitely still a "lucha novice" although I'm familar enough with the style at this point.

Im with ya Matt, Ive watched probably less than 10 disc worth in my life & most of those were TripleMania shows, I have saw doses of El Dandy, El Higo Del Santo, & El Satanico but pretty much new to all the other 80's Lucha stars, Im on disc 3 atm & Loving this stuff!

well you've left me in the dust Tim.  Actually rewatching stuff along with the lucha parties now.  Some stuff holds up better (opening tag match), soma  little less (hamada vs. Centurian), and some is still either super great (MS-1 vs. Chicana) or still bad (Andre tag).

I skipped around on the first two discs but I'm gonna pick it up and order #3 since I reviewed all the matches. Still kind of floating on where to put Cochise/Satanico because I watched it in two halves on different days.

Awesome start to the set. Everything was good to great once it got to the first trios match. Going to take a hidden classic to unseat MS-1/Chicana as my #1 overall I think, but I honestly hope there's a little seen match that gives it a run for it's money somewhere else on the set.
