Lamp, broken circa 1988
I figure everyone has a couple of songs that whenever they think about them, they think about this one specific live cut of it instead of any version that appears on any studio recording. This thread is for that.
Zimbra
The Stop Making Sense versions of Life During Wartime and Slippery People will always be definitive to me.

J.H.
I think it goes without saying that McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" from Wings Over America smokes the studio ersion from his debut album and hotdamn do I love the live version of "Last Beat of Heart" by Siouxsie & The Banshees! Death From Above
This is also mandatory in my first wave. Pretty much the song that was the moment Bruce "clicked" for me.

Brian Fowler
This is three videos but it's really just one giant semi-medley and at least two of the three songs are, in my mind, the definitive release
Lamp, broken circa 1988
There's a German TV show called Beat Club that is a real solid hookup for this purpose, especially for bands that didn't exactly make it onto film all that often. Such as the following:
Lamp, broken circa 1988
Also here's one from one of the few bands that has ever made me actively proud to be a Californian. CSC
What about a more broad: Bands that produce awful albums, but are so much better live. Because Imagine Dragons fall into that category. They strip down all the terrible production live and actually sound pretty good. One of these days I need up upload the stuff I have of their original albums that got wiped off the internet as soon as they were signed to a major label and songs remixed into their first album. Because that stuff is awesome.

Meltzing Pot
https://youtu.be/hdxP6Ub_4XY I’m apparently terrible at posting basic YouTube clips. It’s Spiritualized playing Shine A Light, from the Royal Albert Hall.

Curt McGirt
I don't think the "Stargazer" section is better than the album but any version of "A Light In the Black" is my favorite thing in the world (for a song that Dio himself dismissed as "a drum and bass workout" haha). That reminded me that On Stage might be one of the best live albums ever and that this crushes the original
