AFL Premiership Thread

So I am watching the start of the women's AFL season on FS+. Games are pretty bad but that's to be expected because this is only the league's second year and the players are essentially pioneers. Carlton beat Collingwood in front of 20,000 fans yesterday, and anytime we beat them is a good thing. "We're the team that never let's you down/We are the team of old Carlton town!!!".

Managed to watch half of Essendon/Geelong last night.  Bombers up 44 at the half.  Might get to watch the second half tonight or tomorrow.  Having watched Essendon several times this year, I figure they're about 50/50 to hang on and win with such a small lead going into the third quarter.

West Coast are top of the ladder after round 9, and a decisive win over Richmond. Would not have expected that, especially after losing the stadium opener to Sydney in Round 1.

still feels like Richmond's premiership to lose, but there are a few contenders lurking/emerging

Question for you since you would probably be more plugged in than me: is there going to be a generational talent available in the next AFL draft because there's an excellent chance we are going to end up with the wooden spoon?

apparently there's a few stand-outs.  Depends if Carlton are planning to trade pick #1 though, and/or if they apply for a priority pick on top of that.

here's a phantom draft, so this might give you an indication of the talent available.

5 games decided by less than 1 goal in the round just completed, but the media is only talking about Andrew Gaff (from West Coast Eagles) breaking the jaw of a Fremantle Dockers player (and how many games he'll be suspended for).

I am a West Coast fan, and you can't argue that punishment. Still cannot believe he hauled off and decked him like that.

Three rounds left, and 12 teams still alive to make the eight. Hawthorn-Geelong should be a battle this Saturday.

back to back crowds of around 91,000 for the opening 2 games.

Richmond too polished for Hawthorn in slippery conditions.

Melbourne were hungrier than Geelong.

sets up a Hawthorn vs Melbourne elimination final next Friday night, and Collingwood vs GWS elimination final next Saturday night.

Richmond vs West Coast seems to be the most likely Grand Final at this stage.
