Who's going to broadcast the games? (Because it has to be live, only the olympics can get away with tape delay and even them only barely). There's a voracious demand for content right now, - both cable networks and streaming services - so there's probably someone out there willing to pay well for XFL rights. The rea;l problem will be that most of the more attractive players already have an NFL package, hope to bid on NFL rights in the future, or are owned by someone that wants to do business with the NFL. I think they'll find someone willing to pay a decent amount for broadcast rights, but I also think 5PM weekday games on VICE are a possibility. I hope Roman Reigns is the first player signed, hell maybe he'll get to be an owner/coach/player/MVP (like anyone else would win so just give it to him right away). Actually, Meltzer said one of the reasons for starting XFL 1.0 was to try to draw talent away from the Canadian Football League (iirc, Vince tried to buy a CFL team at some point and was rebuffed). But even then I didn't think he was THIS out of touch. Yes, I guess he must feel with Linda in Washington and Trump and his cronies running the country that now is a good time but by 2020 all those motherfuckers could be out on their asses. Plus, like many have said.. you can't make football more violent at this point and there is NO TALENT. The NFL has a lot of trouble fielding 32 starting QBs + backups. This new XFL might be able to get a couple quality running backs or receivers, maybe... but even then not much hope. Who does he think is going to be his star talent? Johnny Football? Or does he think rednecks will make the jump? I don't care I've said it a hundred times. People will not watch football unless it's the best of the best. College there is tradition and history and the kids have dreams of the next level. With a minor league football or semi pro whatever it is.. the dreams have passed them by. The reality is that you can't go in reverse for football. You can't suddenly just go in reverse. It's still the same thing at its core that it was a year ago, which is a cash grab. There's a perception that money is available in the NFL offseason, so let's start up a minor league to get some of that money. It will just be football with different rules, but I don't see how it could possibly be more violent. More racist? I'm sure there will be rules about standing for the anthem or whatever the fuck, but I'm not sure if that makes THIS particular thing more racist.
