The Robin Williams documentary on HBO is really damn good.   Especially the first half where you see him at his complete manic best early in his career.  The outtakes from Mork and Mindy is hilarious.   The story about how he was with John Belushi when he overdosed was so powerful.  it is really sad that such an incredible yet flawed mind is gone from us

New Wave: Dare to Be Different has been airing on Showtime and it's pretty cool. It's the story of radio station WLIR out of Long Island, which was the East Coast version of KROC that basically broke U2 and the majority of MTV airplay and major label acquisitions in all kinds of new music in the '80s. Of course, by '87 the FCC squashed them... dare to be different, right... Anyway, I had no idea the station even existed and it's a neat story.

Forgive the cringeworthy aging Billy Idol presence

SCOTTY AND THE SECRET HISTORY OF HOLLYWOOD

The life story of one of, if not, the main pimps in the golden age of Hollywood.  Basically, if you were gay or straight or whatever, you went to this man to get you some.

Currently at 90% on RT.

Saw Free Solo on the weekend.  It's really good.  You already know the stakes - the guy could fall and die, and you know that doesn't happen, but even so, it was the first time I have ever (briefly) considered leaving the theater at a documentary because it was too intense.  10 out of 10 sweaty palms.  Looks like it'll be in the conversation for Best Documentary Oscar.

This popped up in my YouTube feed.

It showed up in my queue last week.  I was sad because I googled him up and totally forgot that he died in 2012.

Watching the Iran Contra scandal section of this right now, and boy it's some scandalous shit. The whole lot of them should have been locked up.

I wish the show didn't feel the need to stop every five minutes and tell us how important the institution is and draw parallels to Orange Julius Caesar. Like yeah, I get it, can we please get more clips of Oliver North saying things that are absolutely 100% bananas?

Here's the trailer for Peter Jackson's WW1 documentary:

THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD

That was already on telly over here, it was really good. Also, a DVD copy was sent to every school in Britain.

Showtime debuted a new documentary called Porndemic talking about the HIV/AIDS scare in the late 90's around that almost killed an industry that seemed to be complete oblivious to the disease before that.  About 5 very popular woman at the time in that particular area came all catching the disease from one guy who had made over 1000 movies.  Extremely creepy given the subject  as usual especially since the guy did every thing in his power to avoid the HIV test to the point of him forging his HIV test for year and then ultimately having to kidnap the guy so that he would take the HIV test.  But you can see how the push to be next level made it more risky

While HBO definitely has the bigger more important documentaries,  Showtime is a great place for some of the odder ones.  There is one on Suge Knight that has to be interesting given how bad shit crazy Death Row was at the times
