RazorbladeKiss87
I'd be willing to make the trip to Chicago for this. It's only a 4 to 5 hour drive for me. If they somehow get Punk on the show, that would make it a no-brainer for me. I'm pretty sure a friend who lives in Iowa will be bringing a bunch of people if it's in Chicago. Thibs
If they do get Punk and sell out don’t want to hear how much of a draw Indy wrestling is.
Beech27
I get that, but it isn’t like they’re only booking guys who have never benifitted from WWE’s profile. Cody is right there, after all, and Punk was at least an “indie guy” first.
aricandover
DePaul University recently opened a new 10,000 seat basketball arena, less than a mile from McCormick Place (the multi-hall convention center) This could be the venue. https://wintrustarena.com/arena-info/

Beech27
I don’t disagree with that; I just don’t think the talking point matters to them as anything but advertising. It’s as true as people are willing to pay for. The 10,000 goal, the independent ascendance angle, etc., are all part of a narrative they’re selling. “Come be a part of this community,” essentially, which is not unlike most ad campaigns. People will pay to feel included and important, and that’s the end goal here, to make money now and increase their profile/value later. Anything else is a means to that end. And I don’t mean this as cynically as it may sound. I’ve no doubt they believe some (most?) of what they’re selling, and I’m pretty close to buying it myself (a ticket, not the story). But advertising is advertising, true, false, or indifferent.
cubbymark
My sister used to work conventions at McCormick Place, and the union costs associated with doing things there are cost-prohibitive. Vendors would have to pay ridiculous amounts of money even for a can of Coca-Cola. I'd love it if they did it there because it would be running the city proper, but for a self-financed venture, even with PWT, they'd have to sell a fuck ton of merch just to break even. RIPPA
Remember - there is a high probability that Punk is going to fight on UFC 225 which is June 9. So I am not sure how much he would want to turn around after getting his ass kicked and get back into a pro wrestling mindset.
odessasteps
Could easily see a bait and switch where all he does is a promo or run-in, even though they tease a match.

Any live appearance, match or no, would probably still draw.
Brian Fowler
Also, "would Dana let him" is a valid question.
mattdangerously
After getting his ass handed to him again? Yeah, I doubt Dana would have a problem with it.

Brian Fowler
He also has just one fight, also against Mickey Gall, and he actually lost in even less time then Punk did.

S.K.o.S.
I had been thinking Golden Lovers vs. Young Bucks could be on this show (maybe main event it?), but with GL reappearing on the Honor Rising shows, it's starting to look like that match might happen even sooner than September. Hagan
Was thinking the same thing. Also, on this week's BET, Nick Jackson has a vision of the future in regards to Long Beach, which leads me to think it's going to be one of the main events at that show. S.K.o.S.
Ah, ok. I had heard talk about doing it at Long Beach but thought it was just pure speculation. That's shaping up to be a hell of a card.
Jiji
After a years in the making build up to the big payoff, they do seem to be whipping along through the big matches rather quickly. The entire landscape could be very different come September.

Beech27
Maybe Punk's entire involvement will be a troll/payoff for the "BTE is drug free" bit, but if not, considering the bookers of the show also work for New Japan, they ought to have learned how to utilize wrestlers who got thrashed in MMA.
