Phantom Lord
First, can we just agree that Vince creating a side company or what ever called Alpha Entertainment is the most Vince thing he's done in years. I mean I can just see the meeting where he came up with the name. I LIKE BEING AN ALPHA DAMN IT. WE NEED SOMETHING THAT SAYS WE'RE NUMBER ONE. ALPHA ENTERTAINMENT. ONLY WINNERS HERE. As for Bockwinkle being Mr. Perfect, I never heard of that. But it really makes you wish he was about 15 years younger at that point. He and Heenan in the WWF at the time would have been Gold. Nick, Rick Rude, Andre. That right there is an imposing stable. Plus you have Haku. Tell me that isnt the greatest Survivor Series team ever. hammerva
To be honest is Bockwinkel as the original Mr. Perfect any more nuts than Harley Race coming in 4 years past his expiration date to be "The King" ?

Craig H
Holy shit, he filed a trademark for the XFL. He's legit gone out of his mind. This is like bringing back ECW. The 30 for 30 doc stokes the fires for bringing it back and I bet Vince has been obsessed ever since. The only way this even works is if he steps down from WWE. The past time he did this WWE suffered badly. They have a TV deal to think about and now he's going to torpedo it with this. Just fucking crazy. Please leave Vince and don't come back. You're thinking the wrong side of the aisle for the XFL's politics. They're going to be going for the lapsed NFL fans: harder-hitting, STANDING for that national anthem (I figure they'll go super over-the-top rah-rah patriotic openings) etc. etc. Kaepernick would be the antithesis of it, I would presume, he'll probably get a lifetime ban without ever playing a minute or signing a contract! 1

Spritenaut 32
Meltzer was talking about the potential XFL revival and thinks the economics could work, given the changing tv landscape and the push for content, both on television and streaming. There's a lot more players out there looking for original content, so it's conceivable Vince could find someone to give him big money in rights fees. I can't see this working. There's not a big demand for spring football and fall football is already saturated between NFL and college. Vince has talked about going up against the NFL in the fall if he ever tried the XFL idea again. I'm guessing Vince thinks he can lure pro-football, anti-NFL fans to his product since NFL ratings are down and their's a backlash against the league due to cti, the anthem controversy, domestic violence, etc. I think he's probably overestimating the situation, if that's what he thinks. But we'll see. At the end of the day, the XFL still has two problems it probably won't be able to fix. 1) Players. He's still going to be going after guys not good enough for the NFL. There's a few Kaep's and Tim Tebow's out there, but there aren't going to play for cheap and there aren't that many established players he could sign to draw and audience. Fpr that matter, how many guys would play for $50 or $100k? Vince paid everyone $50k during XFL 1.0. NFL players are retiring earlier these days rather than risk their health and they're often being paid quite well. 2) Vince himself. Vince has only really been successful with wrestling. Most of his ventures outside wrestling have failed miserably. I tend to think part of that is because Vince doesn't understand the real world and mainstream culture that well. He seems to be committed to staying true to his vision, and it usually turns out that his vision is kinda skewed. Meltzer even commented that Vince himself does't know football all that well (presumably, he'll hire people that do). XFL was more the wet dream of a strange guy than the ideal for a diehard football fan. Fans want quality play, not staged feuds with announcers, strippers in hot tubs, unsafe hits, etc. 'Course, Vince's vision for pro wrestling bears more resemblance to a strange guy's wet dream than it does what passed for wrestling prior to the mid-80's. Oh lord, I'm remembering that he called the NFL pussies or some such and pushed that XFL 1.0 would be more hard-hitting with less rules. He seemed to think that what real football fans wanted was more carnage. Never mind that a lot of rules are in place to protect the athletes. He wouldn't go that route now, would he? I can imagine the reaction to a more violent, less safe style of play today, in the age of concussion awareness. "Alpha Entertainment" sounds like the name of one of those companies that offer discreet billing when you buy porn over the internet and don't want "Stiify's Slammin' Salmon" on your bills and return addresses of packages delivered to the offices. Not that I know anything about that.
twiztor
i read the article linked earlier. It states that fans want less rules, more hard hits, etc, etc. and the NFL isn't delivering to fans what they want. The current WWE is more focused on safety and concussions and stuff of that nature than ever before. Also, the WWE routinely does not give the fans what they want. why do people think that a Vince Football League will do what he's never been able to do- deliver what other people want to see, NOT what HE wants to see?

The only people that want the NFL with less rules are the same people that want the Attitude era back (IE dudes beating up women and all that). NFL players are like guided fucking missiles and they have to be protected from themselves or they will die on the field instead of when they are 45 from CTE. If this happens Vince has truly lost his mind. And count me on the side of loving Bock but also thinking he would have been horribly miscast as Mr. Perfect. Vince will do whatever he thinks will make him money. He knows Kaep will bring in disaffected NFL viewers so you can bet he will be signed. It all hinges on Vince being able to get a TV deal. Meltzer is right in that the TV landscape is much different this time around. There are more channels and opportunities. 6 hours ago, mattdangerously said: How many of those films have actually turned a profit, though? Profit is an obscure term in the movie industry. Most movies don't make any money until you get to the TV/DVD area no matter how big the box office. I believe Vince gets a cut from the Rock and Batista's work so he has a nice cash flow from them.
