Control Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Stagefright/Sect/Church are all directed by Soavi, right? Two of them (plus Cemetery Man) are available from Severin. The Bava set looks interesting, but I’m worried all the good stuff is in the trailer.
Zimbra Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Oh dammit, Criterion is doing a Wes Anderson set with his first 10 movies. https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/8208-the-wes-anderson-archive-ten-films-twenty-five-years I will never financially recover, &c 1

If they announce a Pedro Almodovar box set, it's over.

Brian Fowler Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I know it's 4K and not just regular Blu-ray, but it's nuts that the Anderson box, with ten movies and twenty discs, has a MSRP $200 higher than the Ingmar Bergman's Cinema box that had 30 discs, 39 movies, and two TV miniseries in it.
odessasteps Posted May 30 Posted May 30 It’s also interesting it doesn’t have Asteroid City in it. As much as Anderson might be my favorite modern director (so excluding QT from this discussion), I don’t know if I want to spend that money when I have most of them already and the CC version .
Curt McGirt Posted June 4 Posted June 4 (edited) Just saw a FB ad for the 4K of Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. Now you will be able to smell the sweat, the whisky, and even the severed head! Edited June 4 by Curt McGirt 2
Curt McGirt Posted June 4 Posted June 4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mu8GHZRjbHw Alex Winter at Beyond Video in Baltimore doing the Criterion thing. Did you know: He has been making movies since he was EIGHT YEARS OLD.

Curt McGirt Posted June 4 Posted June 4 I swear I've seen that, but it's been so long. I'll try and dig it up streaming.

Curt McGirt Posted June 6 Posted June 6 Thinking about it, it's probably a Region 2 disc so it might not play on your setup anyway. Nice new cover though.
Brian Fowler Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Image isn't working for me, but if it's 4K, it's region free (although included standard Blu-rays might be region locked still.)
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Going through DiabolikDVD to see what's new and I feel we might be reaching the bottom of the barrel for boutique releases. Imprint is doing a remastered Schoolgirl Hitchhikers, Jean Rollins' first erotica and it's bad. Just boring as hell trash with nudity. I love nudie cuties and all kinds of pointless trash. For me to be saying this, it has to be hot garbage. Naturally, I'm tempted to buy it just to see how they restored it.
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I also continually remain impressed by Charles Band's ability to repackage his few successful films (not calling them good) with some real dreck and sell them as "new collections." Respect the hustle. 1
Curt McGirt Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Some people are just somehow born to win even though they are losers, and Charlie Band is one of them. He's been around since what, Mansion of the Doomed? Laserblast? And he's still running game. Amazing. 1
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Hell, I just went looking and his first directing and producing credit is 1973, 3 years before Mansion of the Doomed. Absolutely wild. He's like the shitty version of Uncle Lloyd (who is pretty shitty, tbh. My sister worked for Troma for a few years and was miserable but he treated her well after she quit)
Zimbra Posted June 12 Posted June 12 Barnes & Noble is doing a 50% sale on Kino Lorber discs. I can finally get Sneakers in 4K! 2

Curt McGirt Posted June 12 Posted June 12 I remember I was a kid and I thought the gimmick of Sneakers was "here's a bunch of old actors teaming up". And now think about who is really old from that group now much less who is actually dead, and how long one of them has been dead.
