I've found brand new, still sealed copies of the 8 disc blu-ray Universal Monsters boxset, and the 30 disc DVD Universal Monsters boxset for around $80 combined. The 8 movies from the bluray set are on the DVD set obviously, but there's enough extra stuff on the 8 disc one to make it worth while. I wish I could find the 30 disc one for a good price but they're still going for a lot of money.

I haven't enjoyed a SHOUT/SCREAM Factory sale in forever. The last time I bought from them was when I picked up that Dark Angel BluRay for 6 bucks, which is 10 bucks for this particular sale.

They've got great stuff, but their site sales just don't get me psyched like any of the other site sales(WB Archive, KINO, Criterion, Vinegar Syndrome).

Same boat.  I already have most of the stuff they're selling that I'd be interested in, on DVD or other Blu, and I'm not double dipping for those titles at those prices.

Pretty exciting news for me - KINO announced the release dates for a three Jean Pierre Melville films that used to be Criterion DVDs, but have been out of print for eeeeever. The two I've been waiting for are Le Doulos and Bob le Flambeur - two of the best fucking heist films. They're also putting out Leon Morin, Priest, which I haven't seen yet, but I'll probably pick up all three when they drop in July. Melville made some great films.

@piranesi how are Arrow Films with their shipping? It's been almost a week since I ordered, and I didn't go with the tracking option so I'm kinda just stuck with "Dispatched". Which could mean anything, since they're in the UK and I'm in bumfuck Tennessee. ?

I hadn’t seen any Melville until I was in grad school and I wrote a paper on him, due to his influence on QT.

It takes awwwwwwhile.  Just when you think you absolutely should email them...wait two more days and then they'll show up.

Ah man, I read that Ebert review of Bob le Flambeur. It sounded awesome.

The review mentions it briefly - Bob le Flambeur has an amazing sequence where they walk through the heist, but it's his imagination of what the heist should look like. So they walk through the casino in their head and go through the motions but the fantasy is totally devoid of other people. It's just them holding up no one.

So with these two I'll be able to add them to Army of Shadows(which I have the OOP blu) and Le Samourai.

Now I only need a bluray upgrade of Le deuxième souffle and Le Cercle Rouge, which is another classic heist film.

YOU GUYS.

Used bookstores usually have dick in regards to blurays I'd want to buy. But today....

I got the new Shout Select STREET FIGHTER COLLECTION for 19 bucks.

So I feel good.

In four posts, I'm totally down for some French heist films.

Add Jules Dasin's Rififi to your French Heist queue.

You lucky bastard. Tomorrow I am definitely going out and raiding one of the two local record stores left in town that always carries a bunch of great flicks for next to nothing. Apparently they're on the verge of going out of business anyway so I better do my part and give the old man some money, he deserves it.

I went out to Record Swap and the old man seems fine despite claims of being insolvent, he had multiple customers in there and hasn't changed his ridiculously high prices -- the first thing I saw on the shelf was the first King Crimson record for 40 bucks, with a second NEW copy going for 30 behind it. Anyway, I went back to the DVD section immediately after that and picked up

The Killer

The Funhouse/Phantasm II/The Serpent and the Rainbow/Ssssssssss combo pack

L.A. Confidential

and, as I was walking out, this incredible piece of work

Spoiler

I put back Hellraiser II and Theater of Blood. Guess I'll have to go back for those after Townes makes me break down for the thousandth time. Oh, and I almost picked up The Battle of Algiers before looking at the $35 price tag...

Features wise, is there anything of note over the quadrilogy set?

Also 2019 is so fucking amazing with the releases:

In which the alien is a nebbish, neurotic New Yorker who ponders the meaning of existence in between kills.

I actually pre-ordered that Mothra disc two days ago.

I think there's like one bonus feature that's new on Alien, but the included Blu-ray is literally the Anthology disc.

@piranesi where did you see the Hellraiser Scarlet Box on Arrow Video? The one they had for the Easter sale definitely wasn't that one, and I didn't even realize it until today when the trilogy boxset got here ? The link on their website just sends me to Amazon, hahaha. Damnit, I wanted all the little extras like the book and poster and cards! Boooo-urns.

EDIT: I'm so confused. There's an Arrow Films AND Arrow Video????
