Arrow putting out a loaded two disc Mallrats 25th anniversary Blu in September. Theatrical, the overly long extended cut, a TV assembly cut from various overdubbed versions, all the old special features, some new ones.

I hope the price drops from 40 bucks before it ships though.

The Shrine. Spent the morning reorganizing and dusting my dvd shelf. 6+ years ago, my dad gifted me with this shelf he made for my movie collection. At that time I probably had only 20 Criterions. Now I’m at 185. For a while I’ve been a dvdnerd enjoyed digging through sites like DVDBeaver. Past few years I haven’t been able to get too in depth with collecting due to the wedding last year and life in general. Recently I’ve had that itch and I’m looking to slowly get the Criterions up to 200.

8 hours ago, Curt McGirt said:

A friend of mine said there's a Monstervision set coming out but there's no information yet -- and he didn't say where he found out about it. So file that away in the "maybe" section.

From the Joe Bob FB page:

JBB's assistant here with a heads up. Any site offering MonsterVision "box sets," DVDs, etc., is a bootlegger, and your $50 to $80 is gonna get you an incredibly crappy image, even worse than what you can already find on YouTube. JBB has something official in the works, and we'll let you know when it's available.

DVDNerds, anyone here ever check out DVDBeaver? It’s one of my favorite sites. They review DVD/ Blu releases and give info like bitrates and audio info. They do a good job comparing dvd releases and show side by side picture quality comparisons. It’s interesting to go to different Tarkovsky releases that have had trash restorations (maybe good for the time) and comparing the color to the Criterion and Artificial Eye releases.

I used to check it out from time to time to see if a movie I couldn't find had gotten a release...somewhere...anywhere. I'd also get linked to their site through Jonathan Rosenbaum who still does(last time I checked) physical media articles. The image comparisons are super nice to have, though sometimes I don't know which is "right" and which is "wrong".

Now that I've gone region free with my blu ray player I'll probably hit them up more now. I usually visit blu-ray.com just because it has the news and release info for upcoming discs, but a lot of what I'm looking for they don't review.

Region Free blu is the next step for me. I have an old region free DVD that isn’t hooked up at the moment. I pretty much bought it because in an interview Godard said Film Socialism wouldn’t be released in the US. Then of course plays at a festival near me and a different theater AND releases on blu after I bought it. I’m a sucker. Got to see some Bela Tarr movies out of it though.

Just picked up Le Petit Soldat (I like me some Godard), The Cloud Capped Star (this will be my first Ghatak), and Le Humanite (I have the oop dvd but the Criterion blu is needed). I’ll probably do a cool pic like @Control did once the sale ends.

Yeah I'm gonna need someone to remind me when pre-orders are up for that in the US.

(Also, alternatively, Amazon has been super weird about preorders for me lately. I went to pre-order Ghost of Tsushima, and it said expected delivery in AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER. It comes out in 4 days.)

@Casey

Pre-orders are up now at full price: https://www.shoutfactory.com/product/friday-the-13th-collection-deluxe-edition?product_id=7444

159.99.

16 discs. 12 movies, so 13.33 a movie.

New scans of several of the films including a new 3D scan of 3. So you can watch it in 2d or 3d if you got the right TV/player.

On one hand, I have the great tin box complete collection of all 12 movies they put out years ago and is now oop and insanely expensive.

On the other, it's not like I haven't bought every single one of those movies a minimum of twice already, some of them three times.

I can't do it.  I have the old tin box and I just can't pull the trigger on $120 or $160 for a few (albeit neat) new extras and new scans.

But if I didn't have the old box this would be the easiest decision to pre-order something I've ever run across.  At least since the Scream Factory Halloween set.
