Pitchers & Catchers Report 2/12/18

So instead of actually enforcing the rules they already have to speed up the game and make batters actually stay in the batters box like they're supposed to and/or reminding umpires they aren't obligated to grant time out every time any yahoo asks for it, they're going to add a damn shot clock and blame it all on pitchers & catchers.

Also you know what's a good way to not start bringing in new viewers?  Have your league commissioner basically tell people your product is boring and takes too long.  GET HYPE.

Remember the end of WCW when Scott Steiner would cut promos on his rivals about how it was their fault everyone would rather be watching Stone Cold over on RAW?  Rob Manfred is that, only without the steroids*.

* not, actually, without the steroids.  We all saw all those extra homers last year, baseball.

This is all about not giving the umps a chance to use their judgment.

Absolutely. I think it is the beginning of the transition to using Statcast/Pitch FX for balls and strikes. Enact some broad, sweeping move to take a little bit away from the umps, and then 5 years down the road, all the umps will do are make balk calls and out/safe.

I like Jeff Passan, but he was trying to argue on Twitter that Jackson is a sign the system is broken because Jackson's value should be something like $15 mil per year, which is insane. While 2 years/$6 mil sounds low, it sure as hell shouldn't be $15 mil.

For once it does look like the Marlins got proper value

Lewis Brinson was the Brewers top prospect and BA just ranked him 18th overall

Woodruff and Harrison are also in the Top 100

I'll take a guy who can play now versus a guy who is awhile away from being ready with no built in position on the team yet and some other guys who are a lot farther away.
