Twin Peaks

I'm not sure they are trying to connect the universes.  I think it was probably just a nod to X-Files, which I would say is definitely a spiritual successor of sorts to Twin Peaks and even shared actors such as David Duchovny and Don Davis.

The Argentina thing is a nod to Phillip Jefferies from FWWM, but I've no idea how they're gonna get around the fact that Bowie is dead. I know EvilCoop tried to talk to him and someone else was on the line but...

Also, the woman with the goons who were waiting for Dougie tried to ring the same box that EvilCoop rang in the prison.

I dunno what to make of the Major Briggs reveal either (16 bodies have shown up with his fingerprints, the latest being the headless corpse in bed from the first episode)

Also, good god does Tom Sizemore look like shit

I also noticed that at the end the douchebag smoking guy had a pack of Morley brand cigarettes.  Those are also the fictional brand The Smoking Man preferred in The X Files.  Have there been Same Universe easter eggs like that before?

Morley cigarettes are just a fictional brand that's used in a shitload of movies, TV shows and other stuff (even an Afroman music video).

Also, most people seem to think Tim Roth will play an aged version of Phillip Jeffries.

Here is my one complaint.  If Dale Cooper spends the whole show in this addled state, I will be disappointed.  Unfortunately, it's moving at a snail's pace.  Credit to Kyle MacLachlan, and I know this show isn't really taking place in the real world.  But everyone just going along with Cooper as Dougie is getting tiresome.  It was sort of fun in the casino episode, but now the fact that no one realizes something is wrong with this guy is ridiculous.  This is starting to become like Weekend at Bernie's Here.

The way people are reacting to him made me wonder what Dougie was like before this. His wife mentioned something about him having another one of his episodes. Maybe this isn't that out of the ordinary for him.

As out of it as Coop is now, at least he's aware enough not to piss himself. It would bum me out to see him do that.

Considering how Dougie reacted to being in the Black Lodge, I kind of doubt it.

EDIT:

Also, just a personal note. Peggy Lipton is still looking smoking hot at 70 years old.  I had no idea she was that old when I watched this episode.

Jeffery Beaumont and Sandy Williams from Blue Velvet were undercover, and their names are actually Dale Cooper and Diane.

@CreativeControl @Throat Good call on it being Diane. 25 years later, we actually get to see her for the first time ever, and it turns out that's Dern's super secret role. Nice surprise, I wasn't expecting it to be Diane obviously. I thought she was just a form of talking therapy for Cooper.

"I THINK I'M HIGH!"

That's all I really got out of this episode, besides Laura Dern saying "fuck" a lot and implying romance or something more sinister with Cooper happened the last time they saw each other. I think Dougie isn't long for this world, and we're about to get the real Agent Cooper back after that scene with the cops and then immediately after when he disarms Ike outside of Lucky 7.

I wonder if the news footage of Dougie will go national and be seen by someone in Twin Peaks.

I don't like the implications of Doc Hayward seeing Evil Coop split after visiting a comatose Audrey. A clue to Richard Horne's origins? I doubt his father is John Justice Wheeler.

Before Beverly showed Ben the key, my first thought was that it was Josie trapped in the wood. Not that I want it to be that.

That was the only thing I thought it was. I don't think Joan Chen is listed in the cast, but it would be a nice easter egg if it's referenced somehow.

No she isn't. And neither is Chris Isaak actually which seems like a glaring omission with how closely tied to FWWM this is.

I'm interested to see what the woodchucker who disappeared from the cell in the first episode's interest in the Garland body is

Well, that was some crazy shit. My wife fell asleep for a bit. She woke up and asked what happened. I didn't know how to answer.

It seemed like a lot of plot advancement last week. Almost none this week. And now a two week break.

I'll never see an hour of tv like that ever again. Unsettling, beautiful, strange, hinted at answers to a few things from FWWM. Wow.

If this series doesn't win every sound award I'll be disgusted

I had to look it up but the cacophonous sounds during the atomic bomb are actually a composition:

I was thinking the only comparable piece of film/TV that came to mind is 2001. Funny enough, Kubrick used Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima in The Shining.

I definitely agree with your sentiment that the show should win all of the sound design awards. And all of the other awards too, dammit.

Lynch is just exhaling the bong rip he took before writing last night's episode.

I can definitely see that episode polarizing a lot of people, especially casual or first time viewers. Under different circumstances I would write off something like that as self-indulgent crap, but being a long time TP and Lynch fan I thought it was incredible.

You really think any of this is going to make sense when it is over?

Yeah, I do. It's an 18 hour movie that we're viewing an hour a week. This week's episode was the intermission.
