Those reviews are infuriating.  Baywatch is universally reviled for being completely stupid, while Captain Underpants is celebrated for being deliberately dumb.

If i knew more about how Metacritic really worked, I'd suggest that we use it for the pool instead of RT even though RT ratings are still pretty reliable.

I feel like you could just add a Metacritic list to this and find it becomes a very different one than the RT one.

Here are the RT rankings from the 2016 contest, along with the current Metacritic rating for each movie.  It would have changed things, but I wouldn't say drastically so.

1 Finding Dory - 77
2 Nice Guys - 70
3 Capt. America Civil War - 75
4 Star Trek Beyond - 68
5 Conjuring 2 - 65
6 Ghostbusters - 60
7 BFG - 66
8 Central Intelligence - 52
9 Neighbors 2 - 58
10 Jason Bourne - 58
11 X-Men Apocalypse - 52
12 Angry Birds - 43
13 TMNT 2 - 40
14 Tarzan - 44
15 Now You See Me 2 - 26
16 Independence Day 2 - 32
17 Alice Through The Looking Glass - 34
18 Warcraft - 32
19 Suicide Squad - 40
20 Ice Age 5 - 34

I dunno. 2/3 of the films would be in different spots, and that's just looking at stuff that should move up rather than resorting the whole thing. Suicide Squad would be about four spots higher while Now You See Me 2 would be 5 spots lower. That's a pretty major difference points-wise.

That said, given that you run this out of the goodness of your heart I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to track more stats.

If you resort that list to use Metacritic scores, only three movies stay in the same place. On the other hand, the two movies Dragon mentioned are the only really big moves. Average distance moved is exactly 1.5. I think that qualifies as "changed, but not drastically".

CSC putting in a ballot in the 11th hour and putting WW at the top of his RT and BO lists after all of the advanced reviews were released sooooo feels like insider trading. :)

That ballot will be #1 with a bullet by next Monday.

Captain Underpants is now sitting at 82% Fresh.  If this keeps up it will be Good Bye Top 10 for me.

The one comforting thing is that the negative reviews for Captain Underpants are really scalding, so hopefully there will be more hate that erodes the RT rating to the 50% to low 60% range.

I need it to have a lukewarm reception; not necessarily hated like Baywatch.

Oh, you have got to be shitting me.

Wonder Woman's RT is currently 94%.

Captain Underpants is sitting at 86%.

My stay in the Top 10 will be short lived.

I was talking with my friend about this list and how I left Captain Underpants off of it and hes like "do you not know anything about kids, that's that gonna be a huge kids movie...that and that Diary of a Wimpy Kid". Did you know they all ready made five of those movies? I thought this was like the second or third one.

I hate children.

I left CU off more because of not having any idea where to place it RT wise

But its also opening between 24 - 32 million so your friend might want to settle down on it being huge

To be fair, it's being clobbered by Wonder Woman just like every other movie this weekend.

If it stays pesky at the box office, it will make a good return on budget and unfortunately for my ballot, the positive reviews will help.

It will only really hurt your RT list

It only did $23.5 million this weekend

It is clearly going to be the "worst" of the three animated movies in this poll

4 Animated movies - I forgot about Emoji

  • Captain Underpants
  • Cars 3
  • Despicable Me 3
  • Emoji Movie

Cars 3 and Despicable Me 3 will both get mixed reviews because they are sequels, but they will probably make enough money to justify future sequels.

The problem with the Emoji Movie is that it may get some leniency review wise because it is a brand new idea, albeit a stupid one.
