Ricky was in Wheeling for the show as was Ryback.  Ricky is super amazing and polite as you said. He was letting people wear his hall of fame ring and taking pics of them with it on also.  Total class act and I hope he comes back to the area.  Also Kurt Angle and Booker T are in monroeville for a signing today.  Sting was there yesterday.

Steamboat has always come across as a total class act, I'm glad that's the reality.

I fucked my neck up literally two rolls into my proper training (which came after I had already done two shows).  I've had problems with it ever since.  Also, two documented concussions.  Probably more considering I got horsecollared with a chair once.

I think people would be surprised at how bumps are given/taken prior to some completing their training. I took a bump on Big Bully Busick's retirement show while wearing a suit. It was a simple slam that ended up hurting my back pretty bad. It just makes me respect what these guys do on a nightly basis even more.

Can we talk about the Shibata thing in here? If you didn't see it, Shibata had a great match with Okada, but it left a bad taste in my mouth for how dangerously stiff it was and the hard as hell headbutt Shibata threw really put me off. At first, I thought that it looked cool as hell. Then it begins to sink in that, holy shit, he just went and slammed his head into Okada's as hard as possible.

Shibata then collapses post-match and was later diagnosed with a subdural hematoma. I showed that part of the match to my girlfriend and her immediate reaction was disgust and "100% he has a concussion."

Given the brief discussion we had here about the recent uptick in head dropping moves in WWE because of the influx of indy talent, is there a similar discussion for Japanese wrestling? Does NJPW ever put the same emphasis on avoiding shit that will turn you into a vegetable that WWE does or did? Once these guys get in the ring, you can't really do anything at that point, but is the conversation ever had with the roster to not do insanely stupid shit that will turn your brain to mush?

I might be in the minority here, but I didn't think the headbutt looked that bad.  Obviously it was if the injury isn't a work, but his headbutts in past matches looked worse to me.  Still, he should cut it out.  I mean he's a stiff worker, but by all accounts he is safe and guys like working with him.  Meltzzer has said this on many occasions.  I think it was a dangerous spot, but I think the outcome was an accident and obviously unexpected.  I think things like the top rope dragon suplex, and the more head droppy stuff is so much worse.  I mean the german Shibata hit on Okada was scary AF.  And I think we have seen how much damage the style on Japan has done to the top stars of the 80s and 90s.  I don't know.  There is a line, a very fine line.  I just hope all these guys stay safe, because I enjoyed the hell out of that match and was totally into it......but I don't want anyone to get hurt. Not that it's all about entertaining me or anything.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that, but the high angle German suplex Shibata used on Okada looked even worse than the headbutt. Why even do that? Do you want a broken neck? Because that's how you get a broken neck. It reminded me of Kevin Randleman suplexing Fedor right on top of his head.

That's why I ask if NJPW has similar discussions with their talent that WWE has regarding avoiding reckless moves like that.

I mean, there is no way.  People do such dangerous shit on the reg.  Then a guy like Honma gets injured on a much less risky move.  Some of the finishers just look so dangerous.  I'm confident these guys are proficient at pulling off these moves and are really working to protect each other, but I cringe every time i see a One WInged Angel or Sheer drop brainbuster.  The margin of error seem so small.

Not that any of us in the public are aware of.

Exactly. This week's NJPW on AXS featured Shibata vs Bobby Fish. Towards the end of the match, Shibata threw a wicked headbutt. He didn't attempt to strike his own hand; it was skull on skull. What happened? Shibata busted himself open. Shibata is one of my favorites, but that was just dumb.

I don't know if there's a way to slow down a guy like Shibata. I'm sure he's aware that certain things he does are very risky but that's the style he wants to run with and emulate. It's kind of like Daniel Bryan.  He couldn't stop himself. Even his wife couldn't stop him.  It took WWE telling him he's done.  And in a year and a half we'll find out if he's come to terms with that and wants to go and be a family man or if he's back at it taking drops on his head and neck.

His style would get him injured eventually. Hope my homie gets healthy soon.

Sticking with current storyline plots, this is right up Randy's alley. If the match doesn't favor him, he can just come out and say "Nah, I'm not doing it, match is off". You see, it was all part of his MASTER PLAN.

I hope the House of Horrors match involves Bray doing his creepy teleporting thing in a manner that causes his DNA to splice with that of a fly. And he becomes a creepy, gross, manfly thing. Or Jeff Goldblum. Whichevs.

I really want this to happen.

I work for our city's minor-league hockey team and we had a post-game meet & greet at the casino last night since it was the last game of the season. After being there a little while, I look over at the Casino bar and see a guy sitting by himself having a Miller Lite. He looked familiar but I could only see him from the side. A short time later while the hockey M&G was still going on nearby, I see the guy fully turn around to check out the scene and holy shit it's RICKY STEAMBOAT. Turns out IWC out of Pittsburgh ran a show at the casino earlier in the evening and brought him in for the weekend.

Needless to say, at that point, I completely abandoned all work duties and introduced myself to him. We literally spent the next hour bullshitting at the bar. Everything from Mid-Atlantic to Jay Youngblood to WM 3 and the buildup with Savage to the Flair Trilogy(his favorite was the Clash VI 2 out of 3) to working with Rude & Austin before he retired. Super, super nice guy. He actually asked me for a picture since I bought him a beer which was unexpected and cool. Definitely one of those moments I'll remember for a long time.

Great story. Ricky Steamboat's always comes across well and this shows it.

Great match, a 2017 Match of the Year candidate but I didn't like the headbutt either.
