I'm starting to feel like Link's real enemy is not Calamity Ganon, but rather climate change.  I swear to God every time I start to scale a tower, light a fire or land at the edge of a cliff, it starts pouring.

One of the reasons it took me 3 times to get the island shrine was it raining/lightning every day, including my big fight with the hinox. I got hit by lightning and died and had to start over.

it's the Freddy Freeman of game design: makes perfect sense when you think about it, incredibly fucking stupid from the point of view of someone who has to engage an audience.

I will say that the power you get from defeating the bird guardian is a huge help vs being unable to climb. That helps you just power through things.

That's why it was my recommendation to max out the stamina wheel early in the game. The game is much better if you can climb most everything in one shot without resting/potions/meals.

Count to seven and jump. I think that was the number of "steps" it takes before Link slips.

Horses are completely unnecessary in a game where you can teleport and paraglide and where you have to spend a lot of your time on foot gathering materials.

I wasted a lot of time getting the white horse to 100% take so I could put the super saddle/bridle on him.

I think the second half of the DLC killed this game for me. The shrines suck and combat isn't fun. Bleh.

I'm 3 beasts through (Camel, Bird, Elephant), with 12/13 heart containers to get the Master Sword. I've explored every chunk of the map at this point. I don't think there are big swaths I haven't gone through at least a little. There are a thousand subquests though.

200 hours and I never found the horse god. The first thing my girlfriend found after getting off the plateau was the horse god. This game will always be ridiculous.

It might even be the other way around. That there are something like five quests centered around horses is just moronic considering how useless they are in a game that's primarily about climbing and gliding and where you need to be constantly picking up resources.

poorly timed rain and/or lightning is a huge pain in the ass.

LOZ 1 was the first Nintendo game I ever beat. I played about 2 hours last night and fell to my death twice just trying to climb down from the Great Plateau Tower, because you have to get on the right bloody pixel to hit A, apparently. This is a game about a fucking elf fighting a fucking pig. Why does basic shit have to be "Ken Burns presents 'Hyrule'?"

This is precisely why Dark Souls fans are people I want nothing to do with.

If it's a game full of this stuff, it isn't fun; it's just trading the tedium of life for the tedium of something else.

The game is not plot-heavy. The Plateau is there for basic exposition and to show you the mechanics. Once off it, you can really go off and do whatever - and it becomes a *lot* harder to die from falling

The Dark Souls comparison is also ultra weird since it might be the signature series in modern gaming for revealing lore in a non-narrative-driven way.

No, I mean Dark Souls' annoying reliance on tedium as "quality gameplay". Here's all the crap you have to scavenge, here's the same fight that respawns that you have to fight the same way each time, here's this otherwise straightforward task that is now Ghosts & Goblins-hard because hey wouldn't scaling a wall be really difficult in real life, right.

Seriously, fuck ALL that shit. I was happy to fire up Cheat Engine, give myself 500k HP, and hack down Sif with my starting weapon out of the gate, just to lift a giant middle finger to all the people I knew who shot their loads on their stomachs over that fucking game. And then I never played it again. Waste of $5 on Steam.

Anyway, I just got the glider and moved toward Kakariko. Still don't know what to make of it. I don't need a $400 Resource Manager app. Just don't. And the puzzle shrines are cute, and maybe I'd get more out of them if I were playing handheld and saw the little quirks built into how it plays as that system, but I'm still waiting for this to impress me.
