It'll be interesting to see if we get AJ/Nak at Mania as I can't imagine he'll be going after a third NXT title run.

Is this rumored for WM or just fantasy booking?

I know Roode is really divisive around here, but God damn do I love his work. It's old school, not flashy, nothing high end, just got solid heel work. Nak being Nak is also great. Really dug it. I don't expect Roode to last as champ long, but good on him.

Because if they both pin Asuka at the same time and become co-champions, they could then defend with an amended Freebird rule to cover singles titles and you don't know which one you're challenging until the match starts.

It's phenomenally dumb, but this is the same company that had their main roster tag team titles held by three people for the better part of a year and a half, so it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to run with a two person singles champ at some point.

Weren't Chyna and Y2J co-Intercontinental champion for awhile?

I thought that said Henry Machinery and imagined Henry teaming with someone wearing a Machines mask. Now i am disappointed,

Why is this not a real thing?

So sick of the "Oh My GOD, he kicked out of my finisher!  What do I do?  Let me just sit here for a full minute and think about what to do next" spot.

Aw, that is one of my favorite spots.  No one sold the bewildered look and the "are you sure that wasn't a three count?" better than Arn Anderson.

People hate Bobby Roode?  He underwent a sea change from his time as TNA Champ to being with Beer Money and now.  He's a perfect douchebag heel with scientific skills and he gets that more is less when it comes to spots.

I wasn't a big fan of him when he first started out, but no one who has payed attention to him can't say that he's improved dramatically over time.

Watching Strong and Almas and it was enjoyable but the whole time I was thinking how the both of them would probably be a better fit in NJPW. It's a shame Almas isn't the fucking man in NXT right now.

I enjoyed that match,  I felt DIY and the Authors of Pain was the MOTN.  I love matches like that with contrasting styles.  Both teams brought it.

Main event was solid.  I don't know how to feel about Roode. I like him but he's not someone I feel like I need to see.  But that entrance and that gimmick,  if he's not a champion or challenging for a title, what does he do?

Nakamura is past due for the main roster but again I don't see how he fits in because Vince is a maniac.

The finish to the main event successfully convinced my buddy that was at the show (and others around him) that Nakamura was actually injured. I had to remind him that they wouldn't let him back in the ring if he actually was injured (much less take a single leg crab and various stomps to the injured leg). He worried me at first, since he was telling me about it before I had seen the match or any spoilers. I don't like Bobby Roode, much less as champion, but if this frees up Nak to be at the Rumble or go to the main roster soon, I'm fine with it. If not Nak, who does he feud with now?

I felt like Almas/Strong was the MOTN. I was glued to that match more than anything (besides the womens match, which was WAY too short). It looked super stiff at times, and had some moments where I legit said Oh My God out loud. That backbreaker turnbuckle spot was crazy.

The aforementioned womens match was alright, I guess. I exected this to blow away the rest of the card, but it was only a few minutes long. Nikki Cross was the clear MVP of this match. Asuka was Asuka and just went through the motions. She doesn't seem to be terribly motivated right now, but I don't blame her. I think it's pretty obvious Nikki will get a 1vs1 match soon, then probably lose, and Ember Moon will be the one to step up to the plate and finally dethrone Asuka. I like Peyton & Billie, but their in-ring gear is horrid.

Would have liked to see DIY keep the titles a little bit longer, but who doesn't love a good monster tag team? There's money in some babyface team taking the titles away. Logic would say TM61, but with one of them injured... who knows. I hope DIY doesn't start their implosion storyline now, I want to see them stay together - such a good team.

I'm curious as to why Samoa Joe was treated like he wasn't someone on the NXT rosters. Usually those "wrestler watching the show in the crowd" segments on a Takeover is reserved for a "free agent", a main roster member or a legend. Didn't give a fuck about Michael Hayes, but hey it's Texas so let's trot him out. Tyler Bate is good and all, but the real highlight was Matt Riddle behind him.

I liked Rollins' invasion of the show, too. That storyline desperately needs to be furthered, and going to Papa H's turf where he's considered a God is one way to do it. And he didn't get booed for calling out the NXT Savior! It doesn't feel like NXT is an island unto itself anymore, either.

The only reason Dillinger is still alive is because Nikki wasn't with Sanity.

Both Strong and Almas' best match to date.

The ramifications of Rollins interrupting the special may have long term impact; not specifically for his angle with HHH but for how the main shows may directly effect NXT and vice versa in story-lines in the future. It's inherently a bit meta to boot.

The Authors of Pain continue to surprise me as to how experienced they seem in the ring and how they are able to sell for the smaller guys just enough to give them gravitas. They're ready for the big leagues and can have an immediate impact.

And this was dope as fuck (can easily imagine them being escorted to the ring by veiled gothic brides all in spiderweb black):

vTxN7mP.jpg

Payton looked like she was about to throw up when Asuka kicked out of the Widows Peak. And that sell on Asuka's kick... whiplash ragged dolled! (The Aussies as a whole deserve a hell lot more credit, they are doing a great job with what they got.) And count me in as one of the legion's crushing hard on Cross.

Roode may have the ideal Miz in-ring style. The match was an example of great in-ring storytelling.

Roode reminds me a lot of Franchise Shane Douglas, particularly when he plays a massive douche, he's a million times better than Douglas in the ring though.  Cocky rich douchebag Roode is the best.

Killian Dain's hair is way too luscious, they must have great conditioner in the Sanity compound.

All the matches were really good, I enjoy Tye Dillinger a ton.  The finish to the women's match was well laid out.  The AoP are improving a ton.

interesting if that was Joe's goodbye, I thought for a second when Rollins came out that Hunter was going to set Joe on him.

They did it during the attitude era with Jericho and Chyna briefly.

Okay - this is small and stupid but it is still bugging me this morning

So the person who was doing the WON live recap wrote this during the Tyler Bate segment

Quote

WWE United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate was sitting at ringside and it didn't seem like a lot of people knew who he was with a fan mocking his waving at everyone

The fan mocking him was Brock Lesnar Guy and Matt Riddle was clearly in the shot too.

Don't you think if you are writing for the WON website - you would be able to ID either of these two people?

Small thoughts from the show.

The show completely over-delivered for me, because as a few others have said, it was on paper the weakest event special probably ever on NXT. The only match I was half interested in was the main event because i'm huge fans of both guys. However every match was solid, Almas and Strong was the best match worked on the show but the highlight (does this say a lot about the show?) was Seth Rollins grabbing a mic outta nowhere and calling out HHH because he was finally in the one place you knew he'd definitely be.

Womens match was an odd situation where you knew logically the best thing would be for one australian lady to pin the other as there was not a single second of 'I want it for myself' but it would be hard to conceivably do that on a supershow like this.

In short, I really really really do not like Percy Watson, he reminde me of Rob Bartlett on the early Raw broadcasts. And i'm gonna miss Corey.

During the facebook interview with HHH after the show, he said initial reports on Nak's 'injury' were a dislocated kneecap. So that probably rules him out for anyone dreaming of him in the Rumble tonight.

I wouldn't even say they were mocking him, emulating him maybe. Other people were doing it, too.

Heeey, Triple H looked at the camera at the end. You can't do that! Really great promo. You could tell it wasn't scripted because he took a second between sentences to think about the next line. How refreshing.

I loved seeing Bobby Roode go full 1989 Ric Flair with that entrance with the women. If Miz isn't going to get The Horseman esq stable on Smackdown, give it to Roode. That entrance was simply amazing. The match was really good, even though I suspect the knee injury might have been a side story to shut people up about Nakamura being a surprise entrant in the Rumble. Roode should have went for a spinning toe hold though. I just miss that hold so much in pro wrestling. But him punching the knee was so awesome. I was surprised he did win. I honestly didn't expect Nakamura to have such yo-yo title run's where he won and lost so quickly. Maybe that was a decision above Triple H because it seemed like a no brainer to just have him have a long title run from Takeover Brooklyn till at least maybe the one at Wrestlemania.

The women's match seemed like it could have been much more, but like most 4 ways where it's 1 fall it was so blah in my view. I loved how Peyton and Billie were working so old school heel in the match. Everyone wants Asuka and Nikki (no pun intended) in this massive brawl and they keep coming in to break it up just before they can really get going. The ending just was sort of there though where after they took out Nikki and they get Asuka back in the ring and she's like fuck this and takes em out and that's that.

Asuka vs. Nikki is the feud they have to run with from now till Takeover at Wrestlemania. I like Ember Moon, but I just don't see her as the one that should dethrone Asuka right now.

I have to watch the rest of the show or at least the DIY/AOP match. I'm bummed DIY lost. Who are they going to build up to possibly beat those two?

As mentioned, Chris Jericho and Chyna were co-champs for a bit. Laycool also ran with it for a while too.

Kind of confused why it would be infuriating.   Because we won't see him get the title back from Roode?  Because he would be working in a match while basically no selling a major leg injury?  Because we won't get that Nakamura vs Ohno match that we salivated for?

It is either Samoa Joe or Nakamura showing up tonight.  Both should have been there months ago.
