watching SST vs Rotundo/Rich from Capital Combat and really enjoying how the SST, at least by this time, were basically Samoan dudes working as a chickenshit southern heel tag team

I was thinking “boy they enjoyed their time with Paul E” because I forgot their time with Buddy Jack.

Theres probably enough Samoans in the WWE to do a Samoan tribute version to the Freebirds. Large Gordy dude, easy enough to cast. Surly alcoholic, might be harder since a lot of Samoans are LDS. Charismatic dude, well… Fatu was really charismatic at Cap Combat 90 and he finally got to unleash it 10 years later as Rikishi.

Who is the Samoan Iceman Parsons?

i'm sure The Rock wasn't the only balding Samoan wrestler but... bald, plus Samoan, plus "enough hair to put beads in hair" is a tough combo... like Jacob Fatu probably has a tattoo or two that came from prison, but he's in the Gordy sphere than the Parsons sphere

just decided to watch some Portland since I had never watched any of it, and the "Buddy Rose is going up against a mystery goalie with 5 chances to score a goal during intermission at a hockey game" is an amazing promo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NelgL1iigak

Spoiler

also love the postmatch in the main event where the faces and Buddy Rose are demonstrating their versions of how Buddy Rose initially won the third wall which Rocky Johnson demonstrating on Iceman Parsons how Buddy cheated

WWE Vault just unleashing Papa Shango/Ultimate Warrior lore on unsuspecting viewers this morning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQgcy6r3nn4

also Dauber from Coach Nailz debuts to kick the shit out of the Big Boss Man

The Crush segment is beyond stupid but the Berzerker squash I'd fun. He just chucks that dude out of the ring!

I love how they're simultaneously running vignettes for both members of 1990-91 Demolition and acting like they weren't on WWF TV a year earlier (with Crush not even having a new ring name)

Even better was they just released the episode where The Berzerker tried to impale The Undertake with a sword; I was JUST telling my wife about this the other day!

Always love seeing Repo Man. Barry Darsow always looked like he was having fun with the gimmick. I was always curious to see how exactly they'd pull off his long-rumored face turn.

Crush on the other hand, during (what I assume to be VERY early promos) didn't sound as Hawaiian as he'd later become. I was also very surprised that he mentioned Sid Justice during one of the promos, I had no idea their time in the company ever overlapped.

Darsow was amazing for having at least 4 different characters where you could have problems figuring out it was the same guy

Barry Darsow might be the closest thing wrestling had to a character actor

WWE Vault uploaded HHH/Rock Iron Man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VLhPF1Jx1c

and WCW uploaded the full Clash 6 with Flair/Steamboat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo8BYMFGIFM

As opposed to Brutus, where all the characters were just Brutus with a different look.

I liked how he also danced the exact same way for every one of them.

World Wide Wrestling (5/18/1985): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4IjVrKFzZw

Quote

We open with Tully, Baby Doll, and Paul Jones with David Crockett. Tully wants to buy Abdullah the Butcher from Paul Jones. Here's a clip of Abby dropping two elbows on Jimmy Valiant. The combo of less than great VQ and the Worldwide theme gel together. Manny Fernandez wins a squash. JJ Dillon and Ron Bass get promo time. One fun part of pre-Horseman JJ is how his suits are unintentional parodies of Paul Jones wardrobe. Superstar Graham and the Barbarian get a squash. Talking up Pat Tanaka as a top contender for the Lt. Heavyweight title as if he's not a job guy, also calling him "Patrick Tanaka". "Maybe Abdullah the Butcher's in the crowd" - David, I don't think Abby could hide in a crowd. Tomorrow night at the Roanoke Civic Center, here are words from the Russians and Tully. David Crockett is not happy to be spending time with Ivan Koloff. Koloff has words for Ric Flair. Here's a clip of Nikita beating up a heavybag with Ric Flair's photo on it and hitting it with Russian Sickles so that the photo falls off. Ron Bass gets a squash win. Another promo from the Russians. Boogie Woogie Man squash before Paul Jones Army beats him up. Dusty has a trash can and he's making the save. JJ Dillon and Buddy Landel promo. Buzz Tyler squash that takes a little while since Doug Vines is a big boy. World Wide's station of the week is in Greensboro. Dick Slater promo for the show in Roanoke. Magnum promos back to back for Roanoke and for the show. Not sure if they had multiple versions of promos of Baby Doll confronting Magnum or if they aired the same one over and over. Russians in a six-man tag and David Crockett is proud of the fans chanting "USA". Sam Houston, Hardrock Ricky Reeves, and Stoney Burke, what a team. Dusty Rhodes gets promo time. Then Dusty barges into the heel dressing room to beat up Tully, our hero ladies and gentlemen. David Crockett tries to break it up. Jimmy Valiant tries to break it up. Then the last  2 1/2 minutes of the video is a "SONY DVD Player" screen
