Elsalvajeloco Posted April 12 Posted April 12 In this week's episode of, "I think I know that guy from somewhere...", I rewatched an episode of CWA (Memphis) from '87 and one of the underneath heels is The Hunter w/ his valet Bambi (some woman with the worst 80s rocker wig of all time). The last time I saw an episode from this era of Memphis, I did a cursory search on him and turns out he was better known as territory enhancement talent extraordinaire Dale Veasey and went only later to be the other guy in State Patrol who wasn't Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker, Lt. James Earl Wright. First off, I am guessing that name is a play on James Earl Ray and that's absolutely crazy if it is. Also, people make fun of the Marty Jannettys of the world and thus nowadays people love picking out the star of every pairing in wrestling. However, try being in a tag team and the guy who had the better career is Buddy Lee Parker. 2
Cobra Commander Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Superbrawl 95 is on YouTube now, back in a magical time when RSPW dudes thought they could get Vader to shoot on Hogan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQrv6j1kaTQ&pp=ygUDd2N3 1
Cobra Commander Posted April 13 Posted April 13 also, LT vs Bam Bam Bigelow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTuFC5VdZNM makes me wonder how much wrestling LT was watching growing up in Williamsburg, VA in the 1970s and how much of that appeared intentionally/unintentionally in this match and some of that "Vince hates the term Junior" thing coming through when he introduced Ken Norton Jr as "Ken Norton"
Doragon Posted April 13 Posted April 13 (edited) AJPW 10 8 2007 Shining Series 2007 Day 1. Masanobu Fuchi, Taiyo Kea and Toshiaki Kawada vs Katsuhiko Nakajima, Kensuke Sasaki and Ryuji Yamaguchi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHT3q4vzQ74 So old AJPW at the time vs Kensuke Office dudes. Ryuji Yamaguchi did not last very long, his career spanned 8 months. There used to be blogs of stuff in the west for several Puroresu promotions, but they're all dead. Cobra Commander Posted April 14 Posted April 14 WCW Main Event (4/11/1993): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSD1DyXRIU0 Michael Hayes is at Spring Break on the Gulf Coast. Bagwell/Scorpio win a squash. They refer to their merch as "Official WCW Stuff". Windham wins a squash. Larry Z makes jokes about tourists being murdered in Miami. Missy Hyatt gets to talk to Ric Flair. Rick Rude wins a squash over a fatboy jobber. Joe Piscopo for Cybergenics! Flashback to December when Erik Watts put Arn Anderson in the STF at a gas station. So Arn is a face going against Barry Windham and a heel going against Erik Watts. Blazers vs Jazz, Thursday on TNT. Bobby Eaton interferes to get Arn DQed. Michael Hayes with an Easter Sunday Spring Break Bikini Contest! Bobby Eaton has been working with Chris Benoit lately. Bobby Eaton wins a squash. Arn Anderson shows up to confront Bobby Eaton and says Bobby should have been with him at the gas station in Charlotte instead of being "at some minor league outfit falling back into your old ways".. BTW, this is an Arn face turn promo

For some reason when I went looking for State Patrol footage a few years ago, Veasey showed up a bunch in singles matches labelled with those 'oiled up sweaty muscle bear'-type descriptions; makes me wonder if that vein (pun genuinely not intended but it's staying) of YouTube wrestling fandom was a broad niche or was all of that just one guy with a very specific kink? 1

No....search The Warlord from his time with WWF. Apparently, he is also definitely a type. 2

Doragon Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I read NTV owns footage of JWA, AJPW, NOAH pre cyberfight, some of Wrestle 1 and maybe Fortune Dream. And some shows not really AJPW or NOAH at all. They don't own everything though. Some footage is owned by other channels and/or their corps they belong to.
Doragon Posted April 15 Posted April 15 (edited) Post split AJPW footage in 2000 to up is owned by Gaora. Of 3 separate legal entites of AJPWs too. There also the samurai footage, and streams stuff. The current AJPW probably owns their own streaming footage from 2014 to up. Edited April 15 by DragonZombie
clintthecrippler Posted April 16 Posted April 16 In which Roddy Piper, Bob Orton, King Tonga, and Siva "Superfly" Afi get off a plane in Kuwait in 1986, get to the soccer stadium to see there are only 300 people in attendance, and say "let's put these empty chairs to use" and brawl all over the field, fling chairs at each other, and otherwise commit to putting on way too crazy of a match to make sure those few hundred people had the time of their lives. 5
Curt McGirt Posted April 16 Posted April 16 That was a blast. Puerto Rico in Kuwait! I can totally see it getting a spot on a Schneider Comp. 1
Doragon Posted April 19 Posted April 19 ECW channel up later. They should make AWA YouTube channel and more. 1
odessasteps Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Funny tidbit from the WCCW 1985 Xmas Star Wars. inoki is working on the show vs Doc and the Freebitds came out wearing their AJPW track suits. 2
Cobra Commander Posted April 20 Posted April 20 hopefully not too many people dove into the WCW Vault's Clash 5 without being warned (that being a clash that is sort of a setup show for the Chi-Town Rumble, and features the main event being changed due to one team being locked in a cage backstage)
Doragon Posted April 20 Posted April 20 I need to watch more of late 90s ECW to 2000. The WWECW brand can be ok, but at the end is meh.
Cobra Commander Posted April 20 Posted April 20 for the most authentic ECW viewing experience, you have to watch it at 1am 2

Zimbra Posted April 23 Posted April 23 14 minutes of Terry Funk vs Bob Backlund from sometime in the 70s. 8mm footage so no sound https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLbOKDYjZfI 2
Curt McGirt Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Heh, they do the Backlund/Superstar title change spot, only the ref sees Terry's foot on the ropes.
Cobra Commander Posted April 24 Posted April 24 (edited) watching the 4/22/85 MSG show on the Vault: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne3qvbwnqlE gotta admit, I don't think I ever saw the "counter the Tombstone by knocking your knees against his head" counter in any Undertaker matches also, the bald bearded ref looking like someone out of jail on a work release Edited April 24 by Cobra Commander
