Great call EC3, remind everyone that AJ doesn't work for that company anymore, that he went off to a bigger paycheck in the land where Creative had nothing for Derrick Bateman.

The thing about KOTM is that it would be fine if it just got rid of the stupid rule that you have to actually hang the belt. If the rules are first person to grab the belt wins, and every time you get pinned you do 2 minutes in the penalty box, I'd be fine with it.

If Bateman had decided to roid himself up to the level he has in TNA, creative would have damn well come up with something for him.

I expected him to get back to WWE by now, actually.

In a big surprise, Jeff Jarrett, Ed Nordholm and Jeremy Borash went to Monterrey for the 3/19 Rey de Reyes show that AAA put on.

As noted here, it was only a few weeks ago that AAA had threatened them with legal action. Impact has been working with The Crash, and Crash and AAA hate each other.

Even though AAA threatened to sue Anthem a few weeks ago over usage of Marty Elias on a Hardys segment, since he was under contract to Lucha Underground, it’s obviously water under the bridge since Anthem did something similar at the last minute regarding the Hardys that cost ROH the Dish Network PPV viewers.

Even more notable is that there are plans in place for a Crash vs. Impact taped PPV show (likely a One Night Only type show) that is tentatively scheduled to be taped on 4/15 at the Auditorio in Tijuana. At press time, this was not a done deal as all the final plans and logistics weren’t yet done. Impact talent is scheduled for all of the upcoming major Crash events.

Those at the Crash promotion have been silent since the word got out regarding the Impact brass going to Monterrey.

Many also picked up on a quote from Nordholm in Impact’s press release announcing the alliance, more for what he didn’t say than what he did, in not mentioning Crash when he said, “We are thrilled to forge this alliance with AAA, a company rooted in tradition, as we continue to grow our network of global partners, which also includes Japan’s Pro Wrestling NOAH. This alliance is an important step in our international expansion strategy, bringing together the best performers around the glove as we take Impact Wrestling to the next level.”

Anthem’s goal is to become the alternate in wrestling to WWE and is willing to work with anyone to achieve that goal. They want their Fight Network to air every major league group aside from WWE and the companies WWE has a strong working relationship with. The Crash doesn’t have television and Fight Network airs both CMLL and AAA.

Nordholm tweeted that the relationship would bring the best of both promotions together.

Midway through the show at Arena Jose Sulaiman, Dorian Roldan and Jeff Jarrett came out to announce publicly that the two promotions were working together. The crowd booed heavily, but that was understandable. Roldan has been a heel as a television character and is always booed, and Jarrett has been coming to AAA for years as an evil foreigner who hates Mexico.

It is unique because it appears Impact will be booking talent to warring promotions, and will use talent from warring promotions. AAA needed TNA for the World Cup, since NOAH is affiliated with The Crash and ROH with CMLL, and TNA, ROH and NOAH along with Japanese women’s groups were the key companies worked with in the previous tournaments which were some of AAA’s biggest events of the past few years.

No specifics were announced for the deal although one would expect Impact talent to start appearing on AAA major shows like TripleMania. It’s tricky, because would that mean the same people could be sent to AAA and Crash shows, or would Impact send certain talent only to AAA and others only to Crash?

It’s very different than how pro wrestling companies have traditionally operated, but from the standpoint of Impact, because of The Fight Network, it does give them unique leverage in the sense every company wants to be seen on television in Canada and the other countries that network is in. In 1997, when WWF was not doing well financially, they were sending their top talent to several different Japanese companies at the same time, but the Japanese companies weren’t warring with each other and that was WWF.

Sources with knowledge of the situation say that they believe Konnan was put in a bad position because he’s now a key character on Impact, but that they double-crossed him in working a deal with his enemy while still working with his company.

In addition, there is the question of the legalities because those with knowledge of Factory Made contracts with AAA have them as not just holding an exclusive for the Lucha Underground contracted performers on U.S. television, but with all AAA characters.

Impact stated the alliance will include talent exchanges between the promotions and “other opportunities to collaborate with each other in their respective markets.”

Jeff Jarrett stated that, “By building bridges with various partners globally, we can give fans a premier product featuring the best possible talent, which has always been a top priority. Looking to the future, Impact Wrestling will be unveiling more international partnerships in the coming weeks and months.”

The Lucha Underground talent was for the most part put over big at Rey de Reyes, seemingly in part because Lucha Underground writer Christopher DeJoseph, along with Vampiro, are heading the new AAA creative. They did a unification match for the AAA mega heavyweight title (El Texano Jr.) , the AAA cruiserweight title (El Hijo del Fantasma) and the Latin American heavyweight title (Johnny Mundo), where they put Mundo over, although in that case since all three were Lucha Underground talent it was going to end up that way. But Lucha Underground and Impact have never worked together and have had their own legal issues in the past. Kevin Kross, another Lucha Underground wrestler interfered and caused Fantasma to be beaten after Texano was stretchered out.

But Argenis, another Lucha Underground character, won Rey de Reyes. Argenis has never been pushed past mid-card in the past.

This was hinted at in an Impact release which quoted Scott D’Amore as saying, “I look forward to growing the brand on a worldwide level. In addition to this agreement with NOAH, we have reached an agreement with Crash Lucha, and I am actively working on other initiatives with local partners in Mexico, The U.K. and India.”
