Dolfan in NYC Posted February 5 Posted February 5 A jeweler in the Diamond District in New York was raided by the FBI today. This is apparently related to thefts that happened to several NFL players, including Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81oJP-R9PJ0
Cobra Commander Posted February 5 Posted February 5 that reminds me that I never got around to watching Uncut Gems
hammerva Posted February 5 Posted February 5 (edited) I don't know if we should include here, in Super Bowl thread, or at all; but the NFL has decided to remove the 'End Racism" saying in the back of the end zone. Whether they have decided to do it permanently or just the Super Bowl because some crazy orange guy won't stop bitching about it I don't know Listen we have all kind of made jokes like "thanks NFL for ending racism". It is a lot of huff and puff. But the fact that they decided to remove it almost immediately after it was announced that Trump would show up really looks shady. Edited February 5 by hammerva 1

Contentious C Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I guess Kadarius Toney's hands don't drop everything. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43812967/wr-kadarius-toney-arrested-georgia-allegedly-strangled-woman
Cobra Commander Posted February 12 Posted February 12 that's more tasteful than a "Kadarius dropped the gloves" reference

Kevin Wilson Posted February 17 Posted February 17 1 hour ago, Tabe said: Yeah, I think we've seen the last of him kicking in the NFL. Wonder if this keeps him out of the HOF... As things go in the NFL, if he doesn't kick again it would probably be due to his kicking woes last year, with these allegations just meaning he won't get a camp invite he normally would have. Watson did the same thing and got the largest guaranteed contract in NFL history. But, allegations + a down year + age probably means the end of his career. Especially if this violated a clause that helps the Ravens cut him while taking less of a cap hit (not sure if that is possible or how that works). As far as the HOF goes, if the allegations don't get worse I think he'll still get in. Voters would have probably six to eight years to get over it (he wouldn't be first ballot regardless).
Infinit Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I don't get why these allegations didn't come out sooner, given how high profile he's been the past few years.

The odds of him getting in are essentially zero, to begin with, this will absolutely keep him out.

If this board still exists in ten years we can re-visit, but I think highest FG % percentage in NFL history + SB Ring + 5× First-team All-Pro + Longest FG in NFL history gets him in. And while these allegations are definitely bad and not defensible, if it doesn't go to the civil trial phase/stretch out for years I don't think by that time that would be the reason he is kept out. Plus by then Adam Vinatieri will be in.

There's an extremely cynical answer to this question that involves his down year this year, but that would be pure speculation 1
Dolfan in NYC Posted February 18 Posted February 18 I'm not re-opening a 10 year old thread, but... Ex-Miami Dolphin Jonathan Martin did an interview this week where he said he never felt bullied by Richie Incognito. He says the idea of saying he was bullied came exclusively from his parents (his mother specifically). This was done because said he was having too many mental struggles playing at the NFL level and deep depression, and when he quit/retired, his family was worried about Miami clawing back his salary/bonuses. Richie Incognito is... to put it mildly... not taking this well. 1

It's not like they just took Martin's mom's word for everything. 1

If his mom is the only one saying he was bullied that means everyone else is lying. Richie Incognito is a giant piece of shit and not only bullied Jonathan Martin, but he also spent a lot of time racially bullying an Asian-American trainer on the Dolphins staff. Blaming his mother is crazy. He needs to blame himself for living every day as a disappointment to a woman who isn't too scared to stand up to assholes like Richie Incognito. 6
Travis Sheldon Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Incognito spent the end of his career on the Raiders. Just pointing that out, because to hell with his meathead ass. 1

I've met some hotheaded people in my day, but getting into a physical altercation at an airport over something as minimal as being asked to move a car is insane behavior. The magistrate's quote, says it all. Literally no one would do this.

Possible he thought he was being singled out for some reason.
Craig H Posted February 25 Posted February 25 I have seen enough wild videos on r/publicfreakouts that physically assaulting a cop over being asked to move your car sounds like a pretty normal thing.

I'm not saying physically assaulting a cop is out of the question for some people, but add the element of the airport and even those people won't go that far. It's kind of a place that everyone understands will be a huge pain in the ass, but everyone would be better off if we just swallowed it and moved on with our lives. Seriously, this is far less than a one-in-a-million occurrence. No one has ever shown up at the airport prepared only for the smoothest of interactions. You go in knowing someone is going to do something to piss you off, but you know that anything you say or do will only make your life worse. No matter who you are, you'll never out asshole the airport. No matter what, you lose. So, at least in my mind, there has to be more to a story of how a dude decided to punch a cop at an airport. Even if it had nothing to do with that cop, that dude probably has a story to tell about what led to him punching that cop.
